Debian Configuration :: Upgrading MPlayer - Missing Description / Maintainer

Sep 3, 2010

Added the following line to sources.list:
deb [URL] squeeze main non-free
After that I did an update and upgrade.
The following packages were kept back : ffmpeg libavcodec52 libavdevice52 libavformat52 libcairo2 libpostproc51 libswscale0 mplayer ( libcairo2 is on hold ).

To overcome this I did: apt-get install mplayer
The following extra packages will be installed:
liba52-0.7.4 libartsc0 libbs2b0 libdirac-decoder0 libfaac0 libggi2 libggiwmh0 libgii1
libmp3lame0 libopencore-amrnb0 libopencore-amrwb0 libvdpau1 libx264-104 libxvidcore4
It ends like: Unpacking replacement mplayer ...

Next thing I tried : apt-get dist-upgrade:

libavfilter0
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libavcore0 libavfilter1 libavutil50 libva1
The following packages have been kept back:

Debian Configuration :: Use Existing Config When Upgrading Kernel?

Mar 11, 2016

Can I use the config for my current kernel (the jessie 3.16 one), and use it to build a more recent kernel (3.18)? Do I just copy across the config and try and build with it, or is there some tool that will bring across the existing config but also set up reasonable defaults for any new options in the newer kernel, and any other migrations that might need to be applied?

Debian Configuration :: Update-initramfs Fails When Upgrading To Jessie

Oct 17, 2015

I'm just completing an upgrade from wheezy to jessie and get the following error

Code: Select allProcessing triggers for initramfs-tools (0.120) ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.2.0-4-amd64
E: intel-microcode: unsupported kernel version!

With a message like this I'm wondering if it's safe to reboot as well as how to resolve.

Is this somehow related to the change to only update the microcode on boot as reported earlier in the upgrade?

Code: Select allintel-microcode: microcode will be updated at next boot

Debian :: Openssh-server Auto Configuration Fails When Upgrading Lenny To Squeeze?

Sep 10, 2010

I'm in need of a bit of assistance from you Debian users. I have two servers that I thought were identical installations, both running Debian Lenny. Tonight I started the upgrade to Squeeze on both servers and one of them went smooth. The other one started out good but fails on the postconfiguration of openssh-server. I'm getting the following message:

Code:
Setting up openssh-server (1:5.5p1-4) ...
Auto configuration failed
2524:error:0E079065:configuration file routines:DEF_LOAD_BIO:missing equal sign:conf_def.c:366:line 67
invoke-rc.d: initscript ssh, action "restart" failed.

[Code].....

It looks like there's an error in one of the files in openssh-server that prohibits it from installing correctly. However on the other server it all went well.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pulse Errors In Mplayer After Upgrading?

bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)

Not a biggie since I get both sound and video, but it takes a bit longer to start the file then before. Also Kde tells me that the sound card "pulse audio" is no longer connected although pulse seem to live just fine.

Debian Configuration :: Server Missing About 300mb Of Ram

Mar 15, 2010

I downloaded the most recent version of debian and isntalled it. Everything went really well there. Until i issued free -m on the box. It would appear that the server is missing about 300mb of ram which is okay for i figured perhaps the video card / sound was taking that amount of ram for it'self. it was not until i installed Xen and I found a bigger problem with memory and my system. for what ever reason when I attempt to create a domU with 512mb of ram, i need to add 19MB more ram so that when i issue free -m from within the domU it will show a total of 512. worse yet is that when i raise the total up to 1024 for 1gb or domU ram, i need to addd 28mb or ram. and add 28mb of ram PER GB i wish to add to the domU.

Debian Configuration :: Missing CD / DVD Device In Squeeze

Apr 3, 2010

I've been testing Squeeze to determine whether KDE4 is finally suitable for my primary machine. Everything seems to be working fine except for detection of IDE devices. My CD/DVD drive no longer automounts and the reason seems to be that no device is being created. My Lenny system detects the drive as /dev/hda, but no such device exists in Squeeze. During boot, Squeeze appears to detect the drive as /dev/sr0 (according to dmesg), but in fact that device does not exist either.I'm actually running the Lenny kernel, as I am unable to compile my Ralink wireless driver (rt2860sta) using the Squeeze kernel. Also, for inquiring minds, I use removable HDD drive bays on my systems to simplify testing.

Debian Configuration :: DRI 3 Doesn't Work With IGP - Missing Packages?

Nov 20, 2015

So, as per Arch Linux's wiki, I tried to make some optimisations to the intel driver through setting it up in Xorg.conf (or as advised by that wiki article, in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf' ), but I've ran into trouble enabling DRI3. Here's my current config file:

Code: Select allSection "Device"
   Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
   Driver      "intel"
   Option      "AccelMethod"  "SNA"
   Option      "DRI"    "3"
   Option      "TearFree"    "true"
EndSection

So far everything works fine, I haven't seen any noticeable tearing, nor did I had any problems with any graphics-intensive programs I run, but there's a slight problem with the DRI3 part as indicated by Xorg's logs:

Code: Select all[    26.556] (II) Loading sub module "dri2"
[    26.556] (II) LoadModule: "dri2"
[    26.556] (II) Module "dri2" already built-in
[    26.556] (==) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
[    26.616] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Haswell (gen7.5, gt2) backend
[    26.616] (==) intel(0): Backing store enabled

[Code] ....

First of all it still mentions the DRI2 driver, is this supposed to happen, or did something go wrong? Also it complains that it cannot find a file, which I can't figure out which package it belongs to, and taking a quick search around the interwebs hasn't produced anything useful...

The IGP is the CPU, which is actually a i5-4460... which according to Wikipedia it has a HD Graphics 4600 GPU.

Debian Configuration :: Missing Dependency For Headers-2.6.29 On Lenny?

Jan 13, 2010

Here's my problem: I'm running a Lenny laptop and I need both wifi and virtualbox to work. I had to do a kernel upgrade to run the wifi. It works with either the 2.6.29 or 2.6.30 kernels, but with 2.6.30 I'm having screen brightness issues that I can't seem to get rid of. So I want to run 2.6.29, but virtualbox is a bit of a problem because it requires linux-headers-2.6.29, but when I try to install the amd64 headers it tells me that it cannot install the dependency linux-kbuild-2.6.29. Is there any way I can get that dependency installed on my computer?

Debian Configuration :: ACPI - Battery Charging State Missing ?

I have a strange problem with the ACPI in my laptop, the problem start some days ago, I don't remember exactly the day.

The first symptom is with de Gnome Power Manager, only show me when I disconnect de AC power, but when connect it again the Power Manager icon disappear and the energy battery stay in the same value.

After search for a while, all the post I read talking about the /proc/acpi/battery directory, but this directory not exist on my laptop.

I have a laptop Lenovo G460. My OS is Squeeze. My Kernel is 2.6.38-bpo.2-amd64, because the 2.6.32 version of the kernel don't recognize well my audio card.

I can't attach the dmesg and the lsmod output because I receive a message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.", both file are compressed.

Debian Configuration :: Ethernet Card Missing/Compile Latest Kernel?

Dec 17, 2010

This may sound ridiculous, but after installing Debian 5 (from CD 1) in my laptop, ASUS UL80VT, it fails to detect the Ethernet device. The device is "Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Ethernet Controller". I guess the problem comes with the old kernel of version 5. I was intending to compile the latest kernel anyway. But the problem is is there any heads up i need to download the kernel and trying to compile it? Is there anyone who uses Debian on UL80VT. If there is, does it works okay?In short I want to compile the latest kernel, hoping it will fix the Ethernet device. There are installers available with the latest kernel. But I want to do it on my own.

System Load Viewer always shows 0% RAM and swap usage, as well as no processors, temperature sensors plasmoid shows no sensors available even after I installed lm-sensors and run sensors-detect, update-notifier-kde doesn't show any notifications even if I run aptitude update manualy. I might be mistaken but it seems to me that these three programs are not working because of some common reason, most likely some policy package either missing or misconfigured, but I can't figure out what is it.
