Debian Configuration :: DRI 3 Doesn't Work With IGP - Missing Packages?
Nov 20, 2015
So, as per Arch Linux's wiki, I tried to make some optimisations to the intel driver through setting it up in Xorg.conf (or as advised by that wiki article, in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf' ), but I've ran into trouble enabling DRI3. Here's my current config file:
Code: Select allSection "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "SNA"
Option "DRI" "3"
Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection
So far everything works fine, I haven't seen any noticeable tearing, nor did I had any problems with any graphics-intensive programs I run, but there's a slight problem with the DRI3 part as indicated by Xorg's logs:
Code: Select all[ 26.556] (II) Loading sub module "dri2"
[ 26.556] (II) LoadModule: "dri2"
[ 26.556] (II) Module "dri2" already built-in
[ 26.556] (==) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
[ 26.616] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Haswell (gen7.5, gt2) backend
[ 26.616] (==) intel(0): Backing store enabled
[Code] ....
First of all it still mentions the DRI2 driver, is this supposed to happen, or did something go wrong? Also it complains that it cannot find a file, which I can't figure out which package it belongs to, and taking a quick search around the interwebs hasn't produced anything useful...
The IGP is the CPU, which is actually a i5-4460... which according to Wikipedia it has a HD Graphics 4600 GPU.

In reply to my last question about Wireless incompatibility in Debian 5.0.3 'Lenny', I found out it was because of missing drivers that I chose to ignore, despite the notifications. Now I've got this problem again, this time with different hardware and a different distribution of Debian (Debian Testing 'Squeeze' i386). As well as asking me to load up ipw2100-1.3.fw (of which I already have), it asks me to load tigon/tg3_tso5.bin. Loading the firmware is no problem. Finding and downloading nthe firmware is the problem here.I've searched through packacges and bug reports for a dowload link, but I've only come across a bundle with the driver I need, as well as a few unneeded extras. IT doesn't work at all.

I've got Debian Sid x64 on my machine. Problem is that in my KDE setup several programs don't work, namely System Load Viewer plasmoid, plasmoid with temperature info and update-notifier-kde. System Load Viewer always shows 0% RAM and swap usage, as well as no processors, temperature sensors plasmoid shows no sensors available even after I installed lm-sensors and run sensors-detect, update-notifier-kde doesn't show any notifications even if I run aptitude update manualy. I might be mistaken but it seems to me that these three programs are not working because of some common reason, most likely some policy package either missing or misconfigured, but I can't figure out what is it.

I have an Atheros wireless USB dongle that will connect to my Wifi network just fine in Gnome but in KDE doesn't. I've read through the http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse and have installed all packages and tried all methods noted there but still can't get the wlan0 to work at all in KDE. Is wireless in KDE & Debian Squeeze useless?

My net-book is working properly with Debian squeeze 2-6-32-5-686, only the wlan does not work. After typing lsusb I have got the message: lsusb : Bus 002 Device 002 : ID 160a:3184 VIA Technologies, Inc. VIA VNT-6656 [WiFi 802.11b/g USB Dongle]
So I obtained the driver package : VT6656_Linux_src_v1.19_12_x86. I followed the instructions ( make install... ) - but the result is only a lot of error messages. Mayby I am using the wrong driver package for the squeeze kernel - I don't know.

I'm running Debian 8.1 KDE on a 2007 dv6 laptop. Model number is worn off. lol but the specs:
Intel i3 first gen m 330
4GB RAM
Intel (ironlake) graphics
First off, closing the lid to my laptop doesn't trigger suspend, or anything no matter what I set it to in power options.
I can suspend using "systemctl" or suspend from the "Leave" menu, but upon turning my computer back on, my touchpad and keyboard don't work.
Sometimes, my touchpad will start working after about 15 seconds, but the keyboard doesn't come back. I have to hard reset.
I have a feeling it's something to do with systemd, but I'm not super proficient in linux. Just an end user who is friendly with a terminal.

I have Debian Squeeze x64 on ThinkPad T61p with standard 2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel. thinkpad_acpi loaded as module, suspend to RAM works fine from menu in KDE as well as by closing the lid, however machine doesn't appear to react on pressing Fn+F4 which should put it to sleep as well. I've read through thinkpad_acpi documentation and asked Google but so far can't find the solution. Can anyone, point me in correct direction?

last week while I was using ssh to the computer1 inside a NAT as usual, I made another tunnel from the computer1 that I was connecting to, to another computer2 inside that NAT (ssh 192.168.1.130) and after making some changes in computer2 I typed reboot. The computer2 rebooted but the tunnel totally hung and I had to kill it in my laptop. Since that day I haven't been able to ssh to the computer1 as I am used to.
Here is some more information:

I have recently bought a branded Onda MT835UP USB broadband modem. The hardware comes with its own drivers/GUI for linux, however I'd rather use the Debian-provided NetworkManager+modemmanager packages.
A few details:
- I'm using debian unstable,
- latest NetworkManager 0.8.2-3 from experimental
- latest modemmanager 0.4+git$foo from testing
- latest usb_modeswitch[_data] from experimental

I have just installed Debian Lenny and was trying to upgrade the installed packages from the packages.debian.org site. when i asked synaptic to add the downloaded packages the would not appear, but when i checked the .xsessions file there are entries saying that the packages were being ingnored because they were either different versions, the MD5 did not match or even "can't find pkg". i have to use the local library to download the packages because i dont have an internet connection at home.

How do I reset unity when I've lost my left side menu bar and the bar at the top is also gone? Pressing Alt /f2 doesn't doesn't come up either so I can't type 'unity --reset' I guess that's the command for restoring defaults to the screen. Rebooting the system the same thing happens. It appears to be locked up without menu's and function keys

I tried to install Squeeze on a new laptop. The installation finished and I was able to log in, but a significant number of packages were missing, including network-manager and network-manager-gnome, OpenOffice, and gdebi. Everything under the System | Administration menu except Login Screen was missing. There's probably more missing, too, but I am not sure how to tell.
It happened a few times but with slightly different results (e.g. I think on one of the earlier install attempts, Iceweasel didn't get installed, but it was included in the most recent attempt). I tried installing using 6.0.1's CD 1, and 6.0.0's hybrid Live image on a USB stick (in both cases, the GNOME version). I had used the same USB stick to install Squeeze successfully on another laptop last week (i.e. I successfully got a complete, working install; I made no changes to the USB stick; then tried to install using it on this new laptop, and saw this behavior).
I tried using both the graphical and text installers. At the step asking what packages you want installed (which allows you to auto-install sshd or mail server, for example), each time I made no changes, so the 3 selected default settings (the first option, Desktop Environment, and the last 2 options, laptop and... whatever the other one is, I don't remember) should all have been installed.
I didn't use the net installer, and I ran the installer offline because both laptops require non-free firmware and I couldn't figure out last week how to get the installer to find that firmware (on another USB stick). So once I got to the GNOME desktop the most recent time, I copied the WiFi chip's firmware .deb onto the laptop and did a 'dpkg -i', then did the same thing to get network-manager-gnome and its dependencies installed; and once I connected to our network I started an 'apt-get install gnome' to try to get the entire desktop environment installed (that also installed the programs that show up under System | Administration).
Is there anything important I might still be missing? Is there a list of installed-by-default packages that I could compare against say a 'dpkg -l'? Does this sound like some sort of known issue?

I'm attempting to install Debian (Stable) from a business net install disc. The problem? I can't load/install the packages I need to connect to my USB 3G modem. When I load up a shell (tty2?), I'm brought to an 'ash' prompt, and there's no DPKG for me to load the necessary packages.
how I can do a total net install, including the base, from an USB 3G modem? Actually, I'm very surprised that current Linux distros don't seem to include support, for this growing market share type of internet connection.

I downloaded and installed Debian Squeeze from a CD (a 700~mb file), but I seem to be missing a lot of things; mainly any wireless internet tools! I searched through aptitude and I couldn't find any sort of package. Do all copies of Debian (I downloaded the CD-1 file from a http mirror) have network tools such as network-manager-gnome?

I have downloaded the entire Debian 5-dvd set. I want synaptic, apt-get and aptitude to first check online if there's a new version of the packages selected to install, if there's a new version, then get the packages online and install, if not, then ask to insert the corresponding dvd and install from that. Is there anyway to configure this?

After what seems like a Long time trying off-shoots of Debian, I installed--and am still installing-- packages from the DEbian distribution. Is there an entry for the sources.list that would give me things that are Asus EEE-specific? Stuff like the evolution mailer and the touchpad controller? (I need to turn the touchpad off, e.g.).

I am trying to keep a stable system (after a date with the unstable version which broke everything ) but a package (namely deluge) is horribly out-of-date. It is better in the unstable packages.I read the official documentation with the preferences file, pinning and the rest of the apt zoo but after a few tests I am still there with my old deluge in my stable environment.(in reality I managed to upgrade deluge by swapping the sources.list file with one with only the unstable repositories -- but this is not a particularly clever approach)I would be very grateful if someone could give me the right content for the preferences file which would allow to keep the system at stable level, except for the deluge package which should be updated to the newest, bleeding edge version.
