Debian Configuration :: Squeeze X64 ThinkPad 61p Suspend Key Doesn't Work

Sep 28, 2010

I have Debian Squeeze x64 on ThinkPad T61p with standard 2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel. thinkpad_acpi loaded as module, suspend to RAM works fine from menu in KDE as well as by closing the lid, however machine doesn't appear to react on pressing Fn+F4 which should put it to sleep as well. I've read through thinkpad_acpi documentation and asked Google but so far can't find the solution. Can anyone, point me in correct direction?

Debian Configuration :: 8.1 - Keyboard Doesn't Work On Resume From Suspend

Jun 19, 2015

I'm running Debian 8.1 KDE on a 2007 dv6 laptop. Model number is worn off. lol but the specs:

Intel i3 first gen m 330
4GB RAM
Intel (ironlake) graphics

First off, closing the lid to my laptop doesn't trigger suspend, or anything no matter what I set it to in power options.

I can suspend using "systemctl" or suspend from the "Leave" menu, but upon turning my computer back on, my touchpad and keyboard don't work.

Sometimes, my touchpad will start working after about 15 seconds, but the keyboard doesn't come back. I have to hard reset.

I have a feeling it's something to do with systemd, but I'm not super proficient in linux. Just an end user who is friendly with a terminal.

Debian :: Squeeze Usb Wlan Configuration Doesn't Work

Feb 14, 2011

My net-book is working properly with Debian squeeze 2-6-32-5-686, only the wlan does not work. After typing lsusb I have got the message: lsusb : Bus 002 Device 002 : ID 160a:3184 VIA Technologies, Inc. VIA VNT-6656 [WiFi 802.11b/g USB Dongle]

So I obtained the driver package : VT6656_Linux_src_v1.19_12_x86. I followed the instructions ( make install... ) - but the result is only a lot of error messages. Mayby I am using the wrong driver package for the squeeze kernel - I don't know.

Debian Configuration :: Squeeze On Thinkpad R400 Laptop Getting Very Hot?

Apr 6, 2011

I have Lenovo Thinkpad R400 laptop. It has Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo processor with ATI Radeon 3400 series graphics card and Intel Mobility chipset series 4 Integrated graphics controller. I have Squeeze ( stable) installed on it with kernel 2.6.32-5-686 .

My laptop gets very hot within 10 minutes whether I do any task or not. Also battery life is almost 40% as compared to Windows. I am more worried about temperature as it remains completely cool in windows. Mostly CPU load remains around 10% and CPU spends 99.99% time at 800MHz clock. I believe heat generated is by graphics card chipset.

Following are some information about my machine

Debian Configuration :: Squeeze: Suspend/hibernate Resume Fails With Radeon Graphics

Aug 6, 2010

I am running Squeeze on an older Compaq EVO laptop with radeon graphics.

A few months ago, after an upgrade, suspend and hibernate stopped working. The suspend or hibernate worked fine, but the resume just hung with a black screen. I finally got around to looking into it and found a workaround.

The workaround is to disable Kernel Mode Setting for the radeon. This can be done by adding the boot parameter "radeon.modeset=0" or by editing /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf so that it includes the line "options radeon modeset=0".

If you are interested in the details, you can search for problem reports related to radeon kernel mode setting.

Debian Configuration :: Suspend And Hibernate Do Not Work At All

Sep 6, 2011

I've been running 6.0.2 amd64 stable since release day and recently have noticed my suspend and hibernate do not work. Normally I have transmission running and have set it to not enter sleep mode while torrents are active. However today I have not had transmission and was wanting to see if the sleep mode options would kick in. So I have set my display to "sleep when inactive for" 5 mins (this works perfect)
I have set "put computer to sleep when inactive for" 10 mins (this does not work at all)

When I try to manually test suspend my display flashes black for a few seconds but remains backlit, then asks me to log back in
When I manually go into hibernate mode my display turns off, pops back on for a second and in a terminal says something about a usb device (something failed but it happens so fast I cannot read it)

Debian :: Flash Doesn't Work With Iceweasel On Squeeze 6.01?

Jul 9, 2011

After using testing (now Wheezy) for almost a year and breaking my machine (latest nvidia broken packages), I went back to vanilla Squeeze (after updates, now at 6.02).Nothing from outside the stable repos; not even the nvidia driver (kept it at default and nouveau)Repo "deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main non-free" enabled. It seems flash is not working with iceweasel; I either have a message which says "Cannot play media: you do not have the correct version of the flash player. Download the correct version," with a link to Adobe's site, of media appears in broken pieces. In order to keep my system "clean," I haven't downloaded anything from Adobe, and a search on this forum suggested installing flashplugin-nonfree or flashplayer-mozilla. Did both (can't have them at the same time), restarted, no joy.

Debian Hardware :: Overclocking Gpu In Squeeze Doesn't Work

Oct 18, 2010

Using coolbits allows for me to try to change it but it refuses to accept it, and even when i run it as root it still just acts like nothing has changed. It's not my laptop maker since i can overclock my gpu using rivatuner on windows so it's clearly not them trying to restrict me. I was attempting to restore teh clocks back to what the factory settings were from nvidia and not the underclocked settings that the oem put on it for the 3d settings and then reducing the 2d by ~10% to help it run cooler except when gaming.Has anyone been able to successfully use coolbits in squeeze? Or is there another nvidia overclockign tool out there besides nvclock since my gpu is apparently too new to work with it and i'm not going to risk it.

Debian Installation :: Squeeze 6.01 Thinkpad T520 Network?

Aug 10, 2011

I have a new Thinkpad T520 from work and am trying to put Debian 6 on it. I previously had a Thinkpad T42 and was able to install Debian 6. I recall having to find the driver and install it separately, so I downloaded all of the non-free drivers, but the network detection step doesn't seem to let me select my own driver.

I've been thru this at least 4 times, both the standard 6.01 and the AMD64 bit version, both behave the same. This has the (unfortunately) the Thinkpad b/g/n wireless card, but the wired ethernet is the Intel 82579LM gigabit. Seems there would be a driver with Debian 6 that would support that one.I can't stand running Windows 7.

Debian Configuration :: DRI 3 Doesn't Work With IGP - Missing Packages?

Nov 20, 2015

So, as per Arch Linux's wiki, I tried to make some optimisations to the intel driver through setting it up in Xorg.conf (or as advised by that wiki article, in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf' ), but I've ran into trouble enabling DRI3. Here's my current config file:

Code: Select allSection "Device"
   Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
   Driver      "intel"
   Option      "AccelMethod"  "SNA"
   Option      "DRI"    "3"
   Option      "TearFree"    "true"
EndSection

So far everything works fine, I haven't seen any noticeable tearing, nor did I had any problems with any graphics-intensive programs I run, but there's a slight problem with the DRI3 part as indicated by Xorg's logs:

Code: Select all[    26.556] (II) Loading sub module "dri2"
[    26.556] (II) LoadModule: "dri2"
[    26.556] (II) Module "dri2" already built-in
[    26.556] (==) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
[    26.616] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Haswell (gen7.5, gt2) backend
[    26.616] (==) intel(0): Backing store enabled

[Code] ....

First of all it still mentions the DRI2 driver, is this supposed to happen, or did something go wrong? Also it complains that it cannot find a file, which I can't figure out which package it belongs to, and taking a quick search around the interwebs hasn't produced anything useful...

The IGP is the CPU, which is actually a i5-4460... which according to Wikipedia it has a HD Graphics 4600 GPU.

Debian :: Suspend To Ram - Resume Bug In Squeeze?

Mar 10, 2010

I have an issue with my Sony vaio fw31e not resuming from suspend. Reported this as a bug: [URL] The usual ways of suspending, from the kde 4 menu, from the power/battery widget or by lid closing always result in no resume. However, running pm-suspend from a root terminal suspends and resumes just fine. My question is, how does one delve into the way that the usual methods initiate suspend? Maybe if I could find out what each of these methods actually does, I may be able to see what is going wrong? I had been running squeeze on this lappy since July 2009 with no suspend issues until an update broke it sometime in January. The install is being fully upgraded every day at the moment.

Debian :: Squeeze Kernel Upgrade Broke Suspend To Ram

Dec 12, 2014

Yesterday, I ran a security update that upgraded my Squeeze kernel from 2.6.32-48squeeze8 to 2.6.32-48squeeze9.

Ever since then, my suspend to ram (STR) function is broken.

The machine will suspend normally, but will not resume. When I try to awaken the machine, I can hear the fan in the tower start up (the subject machine is a desktop computer, please see below for specifics), but the machine seems to be otherwise dead (e.g. the monitor stays blank, pressing the "caps lock" key on my keyboard does not activate said keyboard's "caps lock" led, Ctrl-Alt-F[x] has no effect, etc). My only recourse at that point is a hardware reset (ouch!).

I tried running Code: Select allpm-suspend from a terminal, with no joy. Same result running Code: Select allecho -n "mem" > /sys/power/state from a terminal.

I checked the /var/log/pm-suspend.log file and noticed that each Code: Select all...performing suspend line used to (before said kernel upgrade) be directly followed by a Code: Select all...Awake. line, but, now, all said Code: Select all...performing suspend lines are followed by an Code: Select allInitial commandline parameters... line.

Before this, STR has worked well ever since I first loaded Squeeze on this machine back in 2012.

Code: Select allSqueeze 6.0.10; 2.6.32-5-amd64

Debian :: Squeeze - Freeze Or Kerneloops At Random Time After Suspend

Jun 3, 2010

I'll start at the beginning. The problem i am about to describe occured in ubuntu 9.10 for the first time (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/480850) and is ironically partly responsible for my switching to debian. which i don't regret, but it seems i can't run from the bug any longer because now it's in squeeze, so i want to fix it or make a proper bug report:

Steps to Reproduce:
1: Suspend Laptop to RAM
2: Resume from Suspend
3: Wait and see, preferably monitoring top:
At some random time, ranging from immediately (black screen after resume) to several hours later, the system will become unresponsive. Switching to tty1 or Alt+Print+K does not work, Alt+Print+REISUB does work. Each freeze is anticipated by a random process (this time it was mandb, was installing something) hogging 100% of CPU, then the System becomes gradually unresponsive within a minute or so (panel, metacity, finally mouse cursor freezes too).
Alternatively, in case of a black screen immediately upon resume, Alt+Print+K works (EDIT: or not), and the system remains usable.
Additionally, i don't know if this is related, i noticed one process using 9999% of CPU for a second according to top, just thought i'd mention it.
This bug constitutes a regression, suspend does work flawlessly on this Laptop in Lenny.

The above is how it presented itself at the beginning on a fresh squeeze install, however, after two days of trying, i additionally get kerneloops messages i did not get before (again, after at least one suspend to ram) and after that the system becomes generally unstable (random applications won't properly open or terminate, including nautilus, evolution, iceweasel). Can this be due to secondary damage from the freezes and alt+print+reisubbing repeatedly?

The good news is, apart from this probably already damaged squeeze install, i have another one on one of my playground partitons, where i avoided suspend so far, so i can still try things out there. (it's kde, but i don't think it's related to the desktop environment).
