Debian Configuration :: Hibernate Doesn't Work After Recent Kernel Upgrade?

Dec 15, 2010

I recieve the following error:

Cannot find swap device, try swapon -a
/bin/echo: write error: No such device

If I type swapon -a, I get something like this:
swapon: cannot find the device for UUID=4d79c009-9464-41d5-9f78-90644bca9ba3

It worked great before I did the upgrade... I've upgraded to 2.6.37-rc5.

Debian Configuration :: Errors During Recent Apt-get Dist-upgrade

Feb 15, 2016

This is on my AMD64 Testing box...A couple days ago during an apt-get dist-upgrade, near the end I saw the errors below.

I haven't noticed anything broken, yet. I usually only see dkms errors when VBox squawks after an update and I run /etc/init.d vboxdrv setup.

The section of the results containing the errors to the end of the output:

Debian Configuration :: Suspend And Hibernate Do Not Work At All

Sep 6, 2011

I've been running 6.0.2 amd64 stable since release day and recently have noticed my suspend and hibernate do not work. Normally I have transmission running and have set it to not enter sleep mode while torrents are active. However today I have not had transmission and was wanting to see if the sleep mode options would kick in. So I have set my display to "sleep when inactive for" 5 mins (this works perfect)
I have set "put computer to sleep when inactive for" 10 mins (this does not work at all)

When I try to manually test suspend my display flashes black for a few seconds but remains backlit, then asks me to log back in
When I manually go into hibernate mode my display turns off, pops back on for a second and in a terminal says something about a usb device (something failed but it happens so fast I cannot read it)

Debian Configuration :: Kernel Upgrade 2.6 -> 3.16

Sep 24, 2015

I have a MyBookLive where i installed a Debian 2.6 kernel. The system is running fine so far. Because of an error message when apt-get upgrade (udev) i tried to upgrade to 3.16. Here's what i did:

- apt-get install linux-image-xx
- apt-get install linux-source-xx
- extract the source
- copied the old .config from running 2.6 kernel over to the 3.16 directory
- make oldconfig
- make uImage
- make modules
- make modules_install
- copied uImage to /boot

No error messages because its a headless device - its just not booting up.

Debian Configuration :: Kernel Panic After Upgrade

I have a system that was upgraded from Debian 7 to 8. Unfortunately it is not able to boot from the new kernel 3.16. Only the old 3.2 kernel is able to boot. I could transfer a backup, install it in Virtualbox, redo the upgrade and I can reproduce the error..The last error before "panic" is this line

Code: Select all 59.073579] Freeing unused kernel memory: 216K (ffff8800017ca000 - ffff880001800000)

Debian Configuration :: Graphic Slow After Kernel Upgrade From 3.16 To 4.1

Sep 24, 2015

Intel Core i7-5500U with Intel HD Graphics.So I updated to the backports kernel and backports intel xorg drivers and I have the weirdest thing.Everything is stuttery even cinnamon desktop effects are no longer smooth. If I boot back to 3.16, everything is butter (except the screen corruption). Even my favorite wine game dropped 25% in fps.

I remember that on windows, if the cpu is too slow (pstate_min_speed), graphics is also stuttery. However, increasing /sys/devices/system/cpu /intel_ pstate/min_perf_pct even to 100% didn't do the trick. I suspect, that this measure is causing it: URL....

how to increase the performance again? I just found out, after running glxgears (with about 40 fps), that xrandr shows an available framerate of 40fps

xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767
eDP1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 293mm x 165mm
1920x1080 60.00*+ 59.93 40.00

I guess that's what makes it feel slow. Do you know how to get that back up to 60 (fixed)? It seems like the screen refresh rate set in xrandr has no effect on the problem. When I boot, glxgears runs with 60 fps and everything is fine. After a while, it drops to 40 and the whole desktop keeps stuttering. if I change the resolution with xrandr and then change it back, it goes to 60 again for a while

LVDS_DOWNCLOCK is disabled
Code: Select allsystool -m i915 -av
Module = "i915"

  Attributes:
    coresize            = "1028096"
    initsize            = "0"

Debian Configuration :: X No Longer Starts After Kernel Upgrade / Fix It?

Jan 31, 2010

I have a problem. I'm using the latest Debian stable, Lenny. I am trying to get my usb wifi card working.
The Debian wiki advised me to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.30 using backports, because the drivers for my wifi chip are supposedly in the newer kernel.

So thats what I did. The install went fine. However, after rebooting the computer hangs when it is starting gdm. Only the desktop background appears with some fuzzy stripe over it, the mouse doesn't respond. Pressing ctrl+alt+f1 does nothing. I can only restart with ctrl+alt+del.

I can still use the computer with the old kernel. No problems there. I tryed disabling GDM and rebooting again with the new kernel. It boots up and works fine on command line. However when I type startx it hangs, just like before.

I'm not an expert, but I'm suspecting there might be problems with the graphic drivers in the new kernel.
When I installed lenny at first, X started fine. However 3d acceleration was not functioning. I got help from IRC, I had to install some package to enable direct rendering. Don't remember which one anymore.

Here's what lspci gives for VGA:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS

Debian Configuration :: Boot Kernel Panic After Upgrade To Backport 2.6.39

Aug 21, 2011

This is the first time one of Linux installations halts/panics on booting, so I don't know what to do now. I tried booting the recovery entry from the grub boot menu, but same result.

Debian Configuration :: DRI 3 Doesn't Work With IGP - Missing Packages?

Nov 20, 2015

So, as per Arch Linux's wiki, I tried to make some optimisations to the intel driver through setting it up in Xorg.conf (or as advised by that wiki article, in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf' ), but I've ran into trouble enabling DRI3. Here's my current config file:

Code: Select allSection "Device"
   Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
   Driver      "intel"
   Option      "AccelMethod"  "SNA"
   Option      "DRI"    "3"
   Option      "TearFree"    "true"
EndSection

So far everything works fine, I haven't seen any noticeable tearing, nor did I had any problems with any graphics-intensive programs I run, but there's a slight problem with the DRI3 part as indicated by Xorg's logs:

Code: Select all[    26.556] (II) Loading sub module "dri2"
[    26.556] (II) LoadModule: "dri2"
[    26.556] (II) Module "dri2" already built-in
[    26.556] (==) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
[    26.616] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Haswell (gen7.5, gt2) backend
[    26.616] (==) intel(0): Backing store enabled

[Code] ....

First of all it still mentions the DRI2 driver, is this supposed to happen, or did something go wrong? Also it complains that it cannot find a file, which I can't figure out which package it belongs to, and taking a quick search around the interwebs hasn't produced anything useful...

The IGP is the CPU, which is actually a i5-4460... which according to Wikipedia it has a HD Graphics 4600 GPU.

For hibernate, after resume, there are some messages (??) about register errors quickly flashed on the screen, then the logon window shows but the system hangs. For suspend, I cannot wake up the system by hitting some keys on the keyboard. After I press the power button, LCD doesn't get any signal. I remember hibernate worked when I was using Fedora10, but wireless card did not automatically reconnect at that time. Also hibernate works fine for vista.

Debian Configuration :: 8.1 - Keyboard Doesn't Work On Resume From Suspend

Jun 19, 2015

I'm running Debian 8.1 KDE on a 2007 dv6 laptop. Model number is worn off. lol but the specs:

Intel i3 first gen m 330
4GB RAM
Intel (ironlake) graphics

First off, closing the lid to my laptop doesn't trigger suspend, or anything no matter what I set it to in power options.

I can suspend using "systemctl" or suspend from the "Leave" menu, but upon turning my computer back on, my touchpad and keyboard don't work.

Sometimes, my touchpad will start working after about 15 seconds, but the keyboard doesn't come back. I have to hard reset.

I have a feeling it's something to do with systemd, but I'm not super proficient in linux. Just an end user who is friendly with a terminal.

Debian Configuration :: Module Assistant Can't Find Kernel Headers / Work Around This?

I'm trying to use module-assistant to add the vboxdrv using instructions also found here in the debian forum. However, m-a can't find the linux-headers because it looks for the package linux-headers-2.6.32-5-trunk-686. I attempted to specify were the headers were by using:
m-a prepare --kernel-dir /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-5-686/
but also doesn't work. Instead, I get the error:
Bad kernel version specification at /usr/bin/m-a line 566.
Anyone knows how to work around this?
By the way, the reason I am doing this is because when I installed virtualbox (following the instructions in debian wiki) there's no vboxdrv. When I try to modprobe it, I get:
