CentOS 5 Networking :: Get/install Eth Driver For HP Elitebook 8530?
Oct 1, 2009
We have a process whereby we used a rescuecd and partimage to take a snapshot image of one of our laptops, then we use it to lay down the snapshot on other laptops as requests for them come in. The image was created on an HP (Compaq) 8510, and has always worked laying it down on other 8510s.
So now we get a stack of HP Elitebook 8530s, which will be our new standard. So we're testing how laying down the old 8510 image will work laying it down on the new 8530s. As far as putting down the filesystem image, all looks great. However, we'reseeing the msg "bringing up interface eth0: e1000 device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization." Which I believe is his way of telling me "sorry, whatever driver you've given me can't drive this ethernet card." And needless to say, ifconfig -a doesn't even show anything on eth0.
I'm thinking (hoping) that if we get and install the proper driver to drive the ethernet adapter that's onboard the 8530, we can get this guy some network connectivity, at which point the rest of the tweaks we need to make should be comparatively easy.
how to get the proper driver and b) how to install it? Keep in mind this machine has no connectivity, so I'll have to sneakernet it over from my laptop to the machine.
recently, i installed the debian testing version system. sadly, i do not know how to make my wireless card work. is there anyone who also hasr this problem? b.t.w, how to check my wireless card type?
I have CentOS 5.5 and I can't install the driver for the Atheros AR5006X Wireless. The current state of my CentOS is:
*) If I run lspci, I get 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) (wrong model) *) If I go to System->Administration->Network, I see the wlan0 device with xlan0 name, but if I tried to active I get: (and the same when the system is rebooting)
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06):SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Determining IP information for wlan0...
I have just purchased an Edimax EW-7128g with Ralink RT61 chip and physically installed it in a system running CentOS 5.2. Trying to follow the installation instructions, I get the following:
[root@webtest Module]# make all make -C /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/build SUBDIRS=/root/drivers/2007_1210_RT61_Linux_STA_v1.1.2.0/Module modules make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/build: No such file or directory. Stop. make: *** [all] Error 2
The problem is that although /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/build exists, it appears to be a link:
[root@webtest Module]# ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/build lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 Mar 23 15:34 /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.el5/build -> ../../../usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-92.el5-i686
Ive installed Ubuntu recently but none of my attempts to get the wifi network working were successfull. It establishes connection but the indicator shows no signal and I cant connect to any website, I tried pinging external IPs etc. None of these worked. lspci -nn | grep 'Wireless Brand'Does not show anything. I could find 03:00:0 Network Controller: Intel Corporation Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 lsmod | grep "wlan_module_name"Doesnt show anything. Restarting network says only: *Reconfiguring network interfaces... Kernel boot messages:

The network Im trying to connect to is hidden, so I have to input SSID manually, I doubt this causes the problem.
installing drivers for my onboard NIC card on my ASUS Nettop EB1007. The NIC is a JMC250 PCI Express GB. I first installed CentOS 5 on it and then it wouldnt show up. So I decided to try installing with Ubuntu and it was perfect. I didnt have to do anything else to get it detected. However, I would like CentOS 5 on this unit to practice on. Below is my attempt to install the kmod-jme-1.0.6.1-2.el5.elrepo.i686.rpm on a fresh CentOS install. Unfortunately, the dependencies are failing.
[root@localhost media]# mkdir /media/usb [root@localhost media]# mount /dev/sdc1 /media/usb [root@localhost media]# cd /media/usb [root@localhost usb]# ls -a
I have Centos5.4 loaded on a late 2008 MACBOOK Pro and would like to get wireless working. I've attempted to download the broadcom driver and create a driver module with no luck.
I have searched the web read every post and still i cant seem to get dual monitors working correctly. I have a notebook and a extra external screen at home. Here is my issues
1) My Desktop background stretches over both screens. 2) My Display seems to think I have dual monitors attached permanently. 3) fn + F4 only blacks out screen for a few second.
get this sorted so that when I plug-in the external monitor it works and when I unplug and reboot it goes back to one screen
When I execute the make command, I get the following warning: WARNING: "try_to_del_timer_sync" [/home/bill/XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00/ctxfi.ko] undefined! I opened up ctxfi.ko and tried to search for "try_to_del_timer_sync" and found nothing.
As I try to install the driver for canon mp 160 driver, I realize that canon dun't open their drivers to open source. code...
I should follow something similar to http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-144423.html, right? i.e. download the rpms and rpm -Uvh in the same directory, right?
in order to using the SR-IOV, according the guide HOW_SRIOV [Moderator edit: fixed link.]but i can't got the VFs.so i try to compile the driver :igb-2.4.13 and igbvf1.0.7.but i failed to install them.when i make install the igb-2.4.13 i got the errormsg:root@localhost src]# make installakefile:106: *** Linux kernel source not configured - missing version header file‚[root@localhost src]# i alreadly installed the kernel-headers-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5.x86_64.rpm .some system info maybe needed:Information for general problems.

I have just had to install CentOS 5.6 on a family members computer, as they lost there Windows XP key. Anyway, I am needing to install a new nvidia graphics driver. I found a howto on this forum for 5.2
I've just installed a network printer, Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W.I am required to install a printer driver, min12xxw%B.I could not find Linux drivers at the K-M website.
Im trying to add the binary NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.14-pkg1.run in my CentOS 5.4 ks.cfg file. The problem is that when you manually run the program it asks you questions and you have to respond with ok if you agree to their licensing terms. I want to be able to include this binary in my kickstart so when my machine boots up for the first time this driver is already installed and I don't have to waste time troubleshooting video issues. Is there anyway I can do this?
When i put the command: /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup for install it it say this:
Stopping VirtualBox kernel module [ OK ] Recompiling VirtualBox kernel module [FAILED] (Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong) [root@server ~]# and the log: Makefile:185: *** Unable to find the folder to install the support driver to. Stop.
Currently I am attempting to install Centos 5.2 64bit onto a Supermicro X7DCL-3 motherboard based machine. The Raid recognizes the HDD that's been installed into it, however, the drivers for the raid are not included in the install. After contacting Supermicro I've been supplied with a driver package that should fix the problem. However, I am still having trouble using the package in order to find the HDD (The only HDD in the machine) that is on the raid.I think I'm doing something that's should be fairly simple, but am screwing it up pretty bad.
After doing a clean base install of CentOS 5.3 on a test server, I started having problems with network disconnects. While SSH into the box, I would be intermittently disconnected from the SSH session. At first I thought it was my workstation, but after running ping tests from multiple machines on the network to the test box, it became apparent that the test box was dropping packets. When I lose my SSH connection, the pings also start timing out, for a few seconds, then start again. I increased the console logging and I can see when the ethernet port goes up and down when I physically disconnect the cable, but it does not go down or lose link when the disconnects occur. I changed the NIC ports being used and had the same result. I tried with a different switch with same result. I reinstalled CentOS 5.2 and the problem went away.
Upon further investigation, I found that CentOS 5.2 is using the e1000 driver for my NICs and CentOS 5.3 is using the e1000e driver. I resinstalled CentOS 5.3, and tried using the e1000 driver instead of the e1000e but it no longer detects my NIC's... apparently they moved the support from e1000 to e1000e. I have spent the last 3 days googleing for info on this problem and have not found a solution. Any recommendations? Should I submit a bug report?
I have a newly installed CentOS 5.4 on Gigabyte G31M-ES2C, I had to change the motherboard since it has some problems. Unfortunately the new motherboard is a rev 2.x board, which has a different onboard NIC (old one is RTL 8102E, new one is AR8132), so now my ethernet connection doesn't work anymore (no eth0 device), I assume I need to install a new driver for the AR8132? If so, what's the steps to do so?lspci shows Ethernet controller as: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8132 / L1c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev c0)
I changed a mainboard so the network card is RTL8111/8168B Gigabit now. By "ifconfig -a", there is only io, no eth0.
I got a driver r8168.ko from:
After I insert the r8168.ko, there is eth0. Run "/etc/init.d/network restart", it reports "Determing IP information for eth0... failed; no link present, Check Cable", and I noticed the lights of network card and runter are all off. I can use "ifconfig eth0" now but it cannot connect to other machine.
It's Gigabit card and my runter is 10/100M. I tried "#insmod r8168 speed=100 duplex=1 autoneg=1" and "#insmod r8168 speed=100 duplex=0 autoneg=1", it can not get IP by DHCP either. I also build the .ko from Realteck source code, the behavior is the same.
if I need to do other configurations?
My CentOS is CentOS5, 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP.

I'm wondering why I keep getting the following in /var/log/messages on a system running the latest CentOS 5 64 bit kernel:
Nov 8 09:50:24 hostname kernel: myri10ge: eth2: link down Nov 8 09:50:24 hostname kernel: myri10ge: eth2: link up Nov 8 09:50:34 hostname kernel: myri10ge: eth2: link down
I'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?
I am unable to find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller driver for CentOS which is installed on my netbook.
I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.
I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.
NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7
When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .
Wireless networking doesn't seem to work. When I try to create a new network interface with system-config-network, my wireless card doesn't show up. The following comes from dmesg:
I saw a post about this elsewhere and downloaded some firmware drives from and installed then. But, I'm really out of my league when it comes to this kind of stuff.
I am a linux newbie, I spent more than 3 days trying to set up the drivers for my Intersil Prism 2 Wi-Fi adapter on CentOS 5.5. While trying to Make the driver source I receive errors of missing libraries. Is the hostap driver included in the Centos Kernel? I tried with insmod hostap but it didn't work..? Is there a kernel patch with the hostap drivers? I will be glad if someone can give me ideas or directions for setting up the driver properly.
I have installed CentOS. I have two ethernet card (one onboard and one PCI). I am able to set ip for realtek ethernet card and my atheros(on board) is not shown in network ifconfig shows only one ethernet card (PCI) hen i gave the command lspci i got the following output
