CentOS 5 :: CentOS 5.5 Start Error On Xen DomU "Installation Not Started" ?
Dec 22, 2010
I installed CentOS 5.5 x86_64 on server as xen dom0. When i try to install CentOS 5.5 x86_64 as guest (hardware virtualization) i see "Kernel panic"...Installation not started: i see install cd's boot menu, press Enter... that's all.
Dom0 kernel: 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5xen, xen 3.0.3
Only standart installation, repo's and update's...
Problems with xen 3.1.2 creating and installing domU CentOS 5.5 I am trying to do a virt-install --prompt --paravirt, and the install error out while trying to download install RPMs. I have googled for xen centos virt-install and various permutations. I have found similar howtos for 5.4 and 5.3, but they resulted in the same outcome. I did find several posts with similar issues, but no solution was posted.[URL]..
i am currently trying to install vsFTP onto my new linux server and btw i just started using linux today this is my first time using linux so i got the ftp installed good it got downloaded and everything then i went to open a port for my server for vsFTP i used this comand to open it "-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT" then i closed it by pressing ESC then :wq! and it brought me back to my comand line again so now when i try to start the ip table thing with the comand "service iptables start" then when i execute that comand putty respondes with this "Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore: line 1 failed [FAILED]"
i restore Centos from backup file, after i have finished,i start centos, it can't start and repost error: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option
I installed Centos5.2 and have created 1 instance so far. It all works great, but when I created the new instance (using command line from ssh and "virt-install") it gave a message saying probing for video, not found, assuming headless and on I went with the install.
But now I have need for a framebuffer because I have a JBOSS/Java Captcha routine which throws an error if it can't use the X11 libraries or some such (I've resolved this before on a headless Amazon instance once by just running "Xorg"). But I can't run Xorg on my DomU because it can't find the fb device!
So, I searched around and did a makedev -d /dev/fb to create it, but it still doesn't work, because, I assume, the hardware isn't found anywhere. So... how do I get Xorg to work in this case? Or do I need to re-do the virt install and somehow force it to find video hardware (but how?)
Here is some salient output:
root@virty{/etc/X11}: uname -a Linux virty 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen #1 SMP Tue Dec 16 12:26:32 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux root@domU{/etc/X11}: uname -a

I have a problem with a VM running Centos 5.3 on a Centos 5.2 hypervisor. Any kernel install makes the system unbootable and I have to copy an old /boot directory to get it to boot again. After some investigation I found that grub was always failing. These are the partitions I have. xvda is the OS virtual drive. xvda1 is the /boot partitition and xvda2 is the LVM partition. A standard default install.
Apparently, this file could be suspect. But it seems to be OK according to what I have read. cat /boot/grub/device.map # this device map was generated by anaconda (hd0) /dev/xvda
If I try to re-install grub I get... Attempt 1) grub-install hd0 /dev/xvda1 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.
Attempt 2) grub-install /dev/xvda expr: non-numeric argument /dev/xvda1 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.
Attempt 3) grub-install --recheck hd0 Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time. No suitable drive was found in the generated device map. Reverting to backed up copy.
Attempt 4) grub-install --recheck /dev/xvda Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time. No suitable drive was found in the generated device map. Reverting to backed up copy.
Attempt 5) grub Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time.

I'm running a CentOS 5.2 on dom0 and two CentOS 5.2 on domU.The domU use virbr0.I install domU via GUI interface and did not change anything ... the domUcan ping and connect to dom0 but can't access to Internet !!I search google and find someone mentioned that I need to enable IP forwardin dom0 ... I did but my domU still can't access to Internet. What else I need to do ?The routing table of dom0 is:
# route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
I have CentOS 5.3 dual booting with Vista on a machine with AMD-V support. I'm looking to get my existing Vista partition running as a DomU Xen machine. Can this be done without having a dedicated video card?I've got a Xen kernel (from the repositories) installed and running perfectly with my nVidia graphics card. I tried to set up a new DomU through virt-manager and set it up as Vista, pointed it at the physical partition (fakeRAID mapper device) and gave it 2Gb RAM (I have 8Gb total). I got it to do a PXE network boot, knowing that this would fail and therefore no installation would be attempted, as no installation is needed.
This worked well in that the initial PXE boot failed and the machine shut down. When I start it now it seems to actually boot Vista, but I just can't see it! It goes as far as saying "Booting from Hard Disk..." in the viewer window and then doesn't update, although the disk activity and CPU usage are very similar to a machine booting Vista to the login prompt.
I download the xxxx.tar.bz2 file extracted it, when i run ./configure under the directory i get the following error code...
i even followed the link http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit also http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=28622&sid=17383eb0b922b2c230238f9ab50b265a. and several googling. i think the architect of the OS and the wine is not matching. So guide me to solve the above problem.
I'm using virtual network (NAT network) for my domU.When I change dom0's firewall setup, the domU will fail to connect to Internet anymore. So far, the only way to bring the network back is reboot dom0 !I try to restart service network and libvirtd on dom0 ... it doesn't work. How can I bring the domU network back without reboot dom0 ?
I have upgraded from Centos version 4.x to 5.5 and my installation of UGS NX 6.0 was installed under Centos 4. NX was working fine in Centos 4, but when I try starting it under Centos 5, I get the following:
ERROR: unable to start NX Check: X windows is running, :0.0 is valid, and X display has been authorized on :0.0.
I want to use LibreOffice but I keep getting an error every time I try to open any office application.
The error is : The application cannot be started. [context="bundled"] caught unexpected exception!
I installed the .debs the first time and thought it might be wiser to install it from the experimental repos. So I reinstalled but there's no difference,I keep getting the error.
I reinstalled and found that the same error is caused by the installation for the dictionaries.I removed those but the error is still present.
I've seen people post this error on some forums except context=user and not bundle. However,it seems those were Windows 7 machines and that it's a 64 bit bug.
I'm also running the 64 bit version.
Also,if I try to install the desktop-integration .debs I get another error ( that is,if I remove the dictionaries, otherwise the installation runs just fine ) :
On my machine, I am not able to login using any of the user account or root. It's showing this message:
Then comes another message: YOur session lasted for less than 10 seconds. Try logging using Failsfe. .... session_child_run: Could not exec /etc/X11/xinit/Xsession default
I tried to use the failsafe as well, but nothing seems to work.
Would someone please help me regarding this issue?
I have Centos 5.1 and im a total newbie. I have managed to get it running with Apache and PHP but after I install mysql it fails to start with the above error. I have removed it as well using YUM and reinstalled it but it still will not start.

Why after I boot from runlevel 5 and smartd services is started, I've got a black screen. I know that the GUI is exist but it looks like doesn't appear (black screen). I do following actions : 1. First I check /etc/sysconfig/desktop there is no data (empty), then I add to /etc/sysconfig/desktop this line : DESKTOP=GNOME DISPLAYMANAGER=GNOME

I downloaded centos 5.3 from [URL[ and burnt a DVD. When I insert dvd into drive and try to boot BIOS from dvd (optical drive) it does not recognize the dvd/does not start the installation process.
I have CentOS-5.3-x86_64-bin-DVD.torrent file in dvd.
We are using vmware server 1.0.10, centOS distribution 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5PAE.
We started the vmware service successfully, however, while we do ifconfig, we did not see vmnet1, and we do ifconfig vmnet1 up, we see that vmnet1:no such interface.
after I do all new installation and before i do PHP update my browser can show me apache default page but after update PHP to 5.2.0 I can't even see the default page and always give me Problem loading page and I have 3-4 times reinstall my server which i need to do this as mail serer locally. Here are the version for my php and apache on my server currently :Apache[root@localhost local]# httpd -vServer version: Apache/2.2.14 (Unix)Server built: Oct 14 2009 13:19:18
The installer can't see my raid controller (I assume) as I'm getting the following error:"Error opening /dev/mapper/isw_jbhgjgjj_Vol0: No such device or address"It just sees them as 4 individual drives: sda, sdb, sdc and sdd. Please note that I have set up the RAID 5 in the controller bios interface and the image name is Vol0, which it seems that it tries to load but for some particular reason it can't.I have also tried different bios settings and nothing worked.
I'm trying to install a dual booting machine with OpenSUSE v11.1 32bit and CentOS v5.2 64bit. I installed OpenSUSE first and allowed it to install and configure grub in the MBR and after that I wanted to proceed with CentOS v5.2. The installation went fine with two notable exceptions:- when I had to configure grub installation parameters, CentOS offered me only 2 solutions: either install it on the MBR of the first hard disk or not installing it at all. Other distributions are more flexible allowing you to install it in the boot sector of the root partition for example. Because I didn't want to ruin the existent grub onfiguration, I reluctantly accepted not to install it for CentOS assuming that I could manually configure the entry later in grub's menu.lst file.
- when I was presented with the options for software components installation, I've clicked on virtualization category/function because I intend to use the machine as a VMware host. There was no guidance on screen at that point and I blindly assumed that by choosing the virtualization function I would get necessary tools and drivers that will help me further on. It seems that this was a wrong move as you can see it below.
After completing the installation, I tried to search for a template or guiding on how the menu entry in menu.lst should look like but the grub directory was empty, not surprisingly because I've told CentOS earlier not to install it. Using the files in the /boot directory from the CentOS installation I tried to improvise a menu entry but it's not working. The boot stops with famous Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format. Using the file command to check what kind of files I'm trying to load as kernels I'm getting :
marte:~ # file /mnt/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen /mnt/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Tue Jun 10 19:20:51 2008, max compression
[URL]VMware Workstation 7.0.1 Release Notes has a list of supported OS:[URL]According to that, RHEL 5.4 is listed as supported for both host andguest but CentOS 5.4 is only for guest. This is quite strange and, ifit is true, that could be a serious issue.I succeed to install vmware workstaion 7.1 on centos 5.5, but have run-time error:
[root@ ~]# /etc/init.d/vmware start Starting VMware services: VMware USB Arbitrator [ OK ]
This is my first post, I hope I'm the the right place. I installed mysql mysql-server php-mysql perl-DBD-mysql libdbi-dbd-mysql via "yum install -y" on a server running CentOS 5.3 X86_64 The install completes successful with no errors, but once I start mysqld via "chkconfig --level 35 mysqld on" ; "service mysqld start" There are no errors in /var/log/mysqld.log netstat shows mysqld listening on 3306 and localhost is in /etc/hosts
I am trying to install opensuse 11.2 as DomU on a Host running also opensuse 11.2. When I use a file as destination everything goes well and the installation finishes with success. But when i install the DomU on an LV (Logical volume) with Yast, once the installation finished and the DomU restarts, I get the Error "Boot Loader didn't return any data"
I mounted the LV and I verified the presence of /boot/vmlinuz-xen, /boot/inirtd-xen, menu/lst etc ....
