Ubuntu Multimedia :: Jingly Sound Only In 5.1 Sound Configuration?

Mar 30, 2010

I have a Logitech X-540 5.1 surround sound system for my ubuntu 9.10 64 bit box. When I go into sound from System -> Preferences -> Sound, I set the onboard sound card to 5.1 Analog Output. When I do this, all the of the audio I listen to from Banshee and VLC has a light jingle to it, kind of like constant sleigh bells (they're definitely not supposed to be there.) However, when I change it to anything other than 5.1, say stereo, 5.0, 4.1, or 7.1 (I keep it on 7.1) it works just fine. I'm using ALSA to output sound, could this be the cause of this? I haven't found anyone else with the same problem online, so I'm not really sure what's going on.

Ubuntu :: Skype Configuration - No Sound For Other Programs

Jan 4, 2010

I'm on Ubuntu Karmic, and running Skype 2.0.0.72 -- since I couldn't get the latest version to work with my USB microphone. If I have Skype running, no other programs will produce sound (i.e. Amarok, VLC, flash in the browser, etc.). If any of those programs are active when I start Skype, Skype will fail to produce sound & won't work properly. Is there a way I can allow side-by-side usage of Skype and my other audio-producing programs, since all my other programs seem to get along just fine when it comes to sharing audio?

Audio Devices in Skype in case it will help:
Sound In: USB Device 0x471:0x311 (hw:U0x4710x311,0)
Sound Out: C-Media CMI8770 (plughw:CMI8770,0)
Ringing: C-Media CMI8770 (plughw:CMI8770,0)

Again, both my current Skype configuration & sound in general programs works on my system -- they're just not playing well with each other.

Debian Configuration :: No Sound From ALC892

Oct 7, 2015

Since setting up a new rigg featuring an Asus Z170-A the internal soundcard does not play any sound. The integrated soundcard is a Realtek ALC892, as shown by aplay -l.

List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1

[code]...

Additionally I find that on my laptop (where the sound works) "default Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server" when doing aplay -L. However no such thing mentioned on my stationary (where the issue is). Might there be some issues with the PuseAudio server?

Also the HDMI from my NVIDIA gfx card is identified. However removing the gfx card and using the onboard gfx does not change a thing.

I've also checked alsamixer and made sure that the soundcard is unmuted. I've looked around on google and among other tested the solution presented in URL...

Debian Configuration :: No Sound With Nvidia Driver?

Jun 7, 2010

I recently installed Squeeze. I had sound with the video driver that came with the install. Then I installed the Nvidia driver from Nvidia website. The sound dissappeared. When I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and removed xorg.conf and rebooted again, the sound came back. Then I installed the Nvidia driver from (nvidia-glx, dev and settings) from Debian with Synaptic. The sound went away again. If I uninstall the nvidia driver and xorg.conf the sound will probably come back again. The sound driver is the one that came with the install.

The volumes are unmuted in the alsamixer. Somehow alsaconf command does not work.

My mother board is a ASUS M4N78 Pro with Nvidia IGP.

What can I do to have sound with the nvidia driver?

Debian Configuration :: Enable The Sound In Lenny?

Jun 30, 2010

I'm using Debian Lenny, the only problem that I have is that the sound card isn't recognize by the system, I have installed ALSA 1.0.20 and I followed several tutorials trying to enable my sound card (ATI tech Azalia (Intel HDA)but all tries fail.

So, after install another distro -debian based- in the same pc I figured out that the sound card is enable and running by default, the ALSA version is the same -1.0.20- but the kernel is different -2.6.31.xx- so my questions are:

1. do you recommend me to upgrade my lenny's kernel to fix the problem?

2. is there a way to upgrade specific packages -for example samba, alsa, kernel- using unstable or testing versions instead of upgrade the entire distro? actually I'm confortable with lenny

3. what configuration should I check in the "other" distro to use that parameters in lenny?

Debian Configuration :: No Sound On Intel 82801

Nov 27, 2010

I've recently installed stable (5.x, I think that's lenny...) on a laptop and there's no sound at all.

I had this problem years ago when I last installed linux on here. I solved it then and I thought the solution was unchecking "external amplifier" in alsamixer.

I believe my sound card (Intel 82801DB-ICH4) is detected and the appropriate driver loaded (snd_intel8x0) however, even running speaker-test produces no sound (no error either).

I've read that the intel hda have a model parameter found by greping for codec in /proc/asound/card? but I can't find any information about what codec is used in any path like that. Is there a model parameter for this card too? I'm on a philips freeline X10 laptop.

I ran alsaconf and nothing seemed to change. I tried alsactl init but the command init wasn't found, I suppose that must only be in newer releases. I installed libesd-alsa0 to replace libesd0 but that didn't help (should I revert this file? libesd0 says it's for oss). I also appended "options snd_intel8x0 index=0" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base which got the card registered as the first device.

Here are the outputs of commands I've seen used:

Debian Configuration :: No Sound With ION Tape Express

Dec 21, 2010

I bought the ION Tape Express to convert all my cassette tapes to mp3 on my computer. The software that came on the CD works fine in Virtualbox windows XP. I could be happy with this but would rather use Linux. The problem is Debian Squeeze sees the new USB device but I can't find a program that will record from it. I've tried gnome-sound-recorder, looked at k3b Audacity and several others. It might be because I don't know how to select the usb sound device.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Terminal-based Sound Card Configuration, Server 10.04?

Jun 18, 2010

I debate whether to place this under Server or under Multimedia, because it's both. I have Server 10.04 installed on a Foxconn Intel Atom board. For one of it's duties, I hope to set it up as a jukebox with Subsonic. I plugged in a pair of headphones and set about testing. Long story short, I have no audio from them, although I can get a light hiss when using sound-test. (I will have no GUI on this machine. Everything will be done through terminal or through a browser.)

Using lspci, I have this: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)

Debian Configuration :: Apt-get Autoremove - Sound Keys Not Working

Apr 20, 2010

apt-get suggetsed I should remove some packages I was no longer using. I've read the threads that explain this, but unfortunately I did that just now, not when I actually ran the damn command. I must say, however, that there were lots of things I wasn't actually using, so it was useful in a way. But there is a problem:

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and to get my sound keys working (the mute, volume up and volume down keys) I had to go to Settings-->Regional & Accessibility-->Keyboard Layout and there in Keyboard model I chose the option Dell Laptop/Notebook Inspiron 6xxx/8xxx. I know that's not exactly my model, but that made my sound keys work fine. Well, since I did the autoremove thing, that stopped working. I haven't got a clue what library was being used to get the sound keys working.

Debian Configuration :: Can't Unmute HDA Intel Sound Card?

According to HDA Analyzer, my sound card is muted; however, I can't unmute it through HDA Analyzer or anything else. According to alsamixer, everything is unmuted, though. According to the ALSA documentation, there's no 'model' id for my codec -- Conexant 5069 -- so I don't have an option to put in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf. What can I do to unmute the card???

Here's the hardware: cat /proc/asound/cards:

Debian Configuration :: Creepy Sound From Logitech Audiohub Speakers / Fix It?

Aug 16, 2010

http://forums.logitechio.com/t5/2-1-2-0 ... d-p/216711
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 48#p374748

This may be a bit late for the OP, but I thought to post here, as this thread seems to surface when googling for Audiohub problems. I had this roughly 10-20 Hz ticking/popping constant noise as well, and it seems to be related to the fact that the speakers are connected through a USB hub, not directly.

After experimenting a bit with the kernel USB configuration, the noise went away when I unselected
USB_EHCI_ROOT_HUB_TT and USB_EHCI_TT_NEWSCHED at "Device drivers - USB support - EHCI HCD". I think it is the latter option that made the difference. This was on kernel 2.6.25.4. Although marked experimental, both seem to be selected on Arch kernel26. On older kernels (2.6.20-2.6.24) you may have to select USB_EHCI_SPLIT_ISO, but there I am just guessing.

The hardware volume knob still does nothing (I don't think there is a hardware mixer, probably it just tries to communicate the volume changing request to the computer). Does anyone have idea how to make this work, it's kind of sad to have one and not be able to use it?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Sound Card Randomly Drops From Configuration?

Since I started to use Suse 11.3, I've been having problems with my sound card. It starts normally and I can use it without further problems, until it randomly stops working. I don't know what causes it to stop working, it just does. Then, if I go to YaST>Hardware>Sound (it shows I have a 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller), press edit then reset, it works again!

I've been doing this for like 4 months, but I'm growing tired of doing it and not being able to just sit back and enjoy music on the amarok. I don't know what should I report, so that's why I only say the sound card identification.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Alternate Sound Configuration - Computer Send The Audio Out The USB Cable To The Device?

The program that I use for that is fldigi. The device is Signalink USB by Tigertronics. the device has the ability to have speakers plugged in to it. Question: Is there a way to have the computer send the audio out the USB cable to the device?

I have looked at my sound settings and there are USB devices but none of them are the one(s) that I use with my Signalink device. If it can't be done, no worries -- have not really needed it so far. Just something nice to have.

Ubuntu :: Mp3 Files - Garbled Sound In 10.04

Jul 20, 2010

I'm having with playing some mp3 files. When using Totem or Rhythmbox, after some time (it may be 10 seconds or a couple of minutes), the sound gets garbled, sped up by approximately 5% and in higher pitch. If I exit the player and play the file again, the problem is gone (until it comes again, not much time from that). That affects audio from some video files. Also, there is a quick scratchy noise at the very beginning of playback, as well as with sound preview on mouseover in Nautilus.

Other players don't have that issue (SMPlayer, mpg123...) My PCM volume is not 100% and setting it to lower values doesn't work. The problems are more noticeable if I do something that uses hard disk (installing software, for example.) They weren't present in 9.04 nor 9.10.
