Slackware :: Current - Waking Up From Suspend State?

Apr 26, 2011

I have a new clean install of 64bit current slackware on a machine which previously run 12.1 to 13.1. It had suspend to ram working quite reliable before, but now i get black screen (sometimes with nonresponding mouse cursor on it) at every second or third wake-up.

I found out that it is not a complete lockup - full access to kde desktop could be restored by hitting alt+sysrq+s followed by alt+sysrq+l several times. I wonder what is causing this? How to get it to wake up normally at once?

Edit: I've installed latest nvidia drivers (260.19.44) for GeForce 8500GT card - previous version (260.19.21) of drivers exhibited the same behaviour in my current install of slack.

Ubuntu :: Waking From Suspend, To Tell It Needs To Suspend Due To A Critical Low Battery?

Oct 25, 2010

If I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

Slackware :: Laptop Isn't Able To Detect The Current Battery State?

May 1, 2011

My linux laptop isn't able to detect the current battery state. I am using slackware64 13.37 xfce with a Toshiba L645 laptop.

This is what I came up with so far.

Code:
lsmod
Module Size Used by
snd_seq_dummy 1479 0
snd_seq_oss 30116 0

[Code].....

I use a program called conky that reports my cpu frequency and most of the time it's always at 0.93GHz instead of 2.53GHz. Sometimes it jumps to 1.20GHz and 2.53GHz but falls back down to 0.93GHz. Is this normal?

Ubuntu :: Waking Up From Suspended State?

Jun 20, 2011

I dual boot both Windows and Linux and I often put my computer to "sleep" at night so it's easy to wake up the next morning. In Windows I just need to press a few keys and my computer comes to life, in Linux this doesn't happen and I have to actually go for the power button. (This wouldn't be so bad if the computer wasn't in a hard to reach place in a cupboard) At the moment I have a USB hub which my keyboard and mouse plug into, but for the sake of testing I plugged a second USB keyboard directly into the machine itself, again neither wake it. Doing a bit of research I have discovered that the wakeup devices are stored in /proc/acpi/wakeup The contents of the file by "cat" are as follows:

Code:

monotoko@KatieIV:~$ cat /proc/acpi/wakeup
DeviceS-state Status Sysfs node
PCE2 S4*disabled pci:0000:00:02.0

[code]...

At this point I have reached a dead end, how do I tell the acpi wakeup to accept input from USB keyboard as a kickstart?

Is there a way to check what caused Ubuntu to wake from suspend mode?

Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop.

Have tried disabling all BIOS wake events (and WOL).

Have ensured mouse doesn't move.

Need a way to know what caused it to wake. Happens 90% of the time, usually 3 seconds after it suspends.

Ubuntu Networking :: NIC Not Waking Up After Suspend?

Mar 3, 2011

I have an Intel DG35EC motherboard with on-board NIC. It is an Intel 82566 Gigabit NIC. It is wired, not wireless. I am using an Ubuntu "Live CD". Just out of curiosity (to see if it worked), I "suspended" Ubuntu and it suspended very well, but when I "resumed" Ubuntu the NIC would not connect back to the network. If I actually installed Ubuntu and didn't use a "Live CD" do you think it would behave differently?

Fedora :: Trouble With Waking From Suspend Mode?

Is anyone else having trouble with waking up from suspend mode? After bringing the computer (Dell Studio 1555) back from suspend mode, GNOME moves very slowly. Cursor is unresponsive for significant amounts of time - any open windows do not respond to selection... Effects don't usually go away until a reboot is performed. This evening, one such restart resulted in a crash, where the shutdown process locked at the attempt to shut down the mouse/pointer module..

Ubuntu :: Black Screen On Waking From Suspend

Apr 10, 2010

I've got Karmic installed on an HP 6930p, and with relatively little intervention, all hardware has been supported beautifully. I'm using the ATI driver for graphics. Battery life increased dramatically after an update a couple of months ago. However, occasionally (1 in 8 times maybe), the screen is black when waking from suspend. Disk wakes, etc, but the screen is off. Trying to re-suspend with fn key doesn't work. Ctrl-alt-f key combos don't work. I have to hold the pwr button down.

-when i try to wake my computer from suspend, the screen is a funny gray color with wierd blobby shapes that move around a little bit. And of course, doesn't load GUI or anything like that, just gray screen.

Fedora :: Sluggish Video Performance After Waking From Suspend In F12?

May 12, 2010

It's been a while now I've been experiencing an annoying issue with F12. The thing is that after the machine resumes from suspend (which is otherwise a perfect procedure), video performance (and sometimes audio, through Rhythmbox) reduces and videos play sluggishly. Rebooting the system fixes the issue.

Is there a solution for this behavior (other than rebooting)? Here are the details of my system: F12 x86_64 on an ATI graphics powered machine (Radeon HD3200) which obviously uses the free drivers mesa-drivers-dri-experimental which, otherwise work perfect on this hardware.

My problem is when the machine wakes up after a suspend, the display blooms to bright white. The only way I have found to recover is power off the machine. After a bit of research I suspect it may be the refresh rates in xorg.conf, but lowering the values has not changed anything. Here is what I have currently.

General :: SSD Without TRIM Support Under Current State?

Mar 29, 2011

There are not SSDs with TRIM support available in my region that fit into my laptop (1.8", IDE, ZIF). I'm running Ubuntu 10.10.

Most articles (or questions on superuser) I've come across concering TRIM (or the lack thereof) date back to 2009, when not many SSDs with TRIM support were available and OS support was still very fresh.

I'm interested in the current situation, but I couldn't find too much information about it.

What are currently the "best practices" for using an SSD without TRIM under Linux?
I've read about the wiper script included with hdparm. Do I understand correctly that I could use this to free unused blocks, e.g. by running it once a month?
Some sources state that HFS+ (the default-filesystem of Mac OS X) doesn't suffer as badly from lack of TRIM as other filesystems. How about linux filesystems? Are there filesystems that are better suited for SSDs without TRIM than others?

Software :: Current State Of Radeon Drivers ?

May 14, 2010

Can anyone update me a little on the current styate of Radeon Drivers? I have a laptop with an RS690M video card on Slackware64 & Slamd64

There is
1. Kernel driver (drm/radeon.ko) but I am finding it difficult to find comments on it, except that it does some power management stuff
2. Proprietary fglrx had a recent significant update, and now talks to my card after a fashion (Experimental support)
3. OSS Radeonhd for X, which I gather is probably the worst atm but it's what I have in xorg.conf
4. OSS radeon driver, which is supposed to have more work done on it.

I don't need framebuffer stuff - the screen is hard enough for me to read as it is, but I do like to watch the occasional tv program or dvd and I'd like the video to be keeping up in full screen. ATM, Xvid, Opengl, and just about everything fails to, except sdl.

Debian Configuration :: Wifi "disabled By State File" After Suspend

Mar 8, 2010

Using Squeeze, I wanted to get KMS + DRI2 and suspend/hibernate working with my radeon card using the Open source driver (my card: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M IGP (5955) PCIE (RC410) is no longer supported by the ATI/AMD proprietary driver). I know my card has problems with suspend/hibernate in User modesetting and from what I've read [URL] it has been solved for some only using KMS.

I followed this instructions by the Debian maintainer:[URL] Of course in reality the available version in experimental is now 6.12.191, and mesa 7.7 and libdrm-radeon1 are already in testing. Therefore I only had to get xserver-xorg-video-radeon from experimental and switch KMS on. It worked ok , except that when I tried to hibernate, it didn't even go into hibernate mode!...the screen went blank and the wireless led shut off, but the fan was running and the keyboard lights were on...

Aside from that I also got the following disquieting messages:

[drm:rs400_gart_adjust_size] *ERROR* Forcing to 32M GART size (because of ASIC bug ?)
radeon 0000:01:05.0: Wait MC idle timeout before updating MC
Failed to wait MC idle while programming pipes. Bad things might happen.

OpenSUSE Install :: Current State Of Affairs With The UEFI/EFI Install Support On A Empty Hdd For X86_64?

Mar 21, 2010

I was thinking of trying out the UEFI support that HP has in my laptop BIOS in the next few days. My reasons is that I get a custom boot logo... and (hopefully) a better boot-speed. What is the current state of affairs with the openSuSE UEFI/EFI install support on a empty hdd for x86_64 does anyone know? (badly worded I apologize) This may seem naive but I have struggled to answer this with most posts being about Mac's for obvious reasons.

Specifically, Do I have to have any custom knowledge on formatting the HDD with a GPT partitions or does the installer do this for you? Secondly, How well does the UEFI bootloader tie in with the config tools in YaST2? (I would like to have UEFI but if it turns into some headache in setting up the boot area by hand each time the kernel updates I will forget it.) I can safely say this will be a machine with only openSuSE installed as an OS, no need for any others or any dual-boot problems. This isn't overly urgent and I will dedicate (at least) a whole weekend to tweaking once I buy a new disk and install openSuSE on it. If nobody knows then I will dive in head first and report how I find it and any problems (and severity).
