The title says it all: my computer won't resume my current session after I suspend it. Nothing works, and I have to turn off the computer and start it again in order to log in.
P.S.: I'm using the latest version of ubuntu (11.04)
P.S. II: I turn the pc off by hold the power buton for 3 - 5 secs.
P.D. III: If I tap the power button, I can hear the pc start working, but the desktop stays blanked out.
Disclaimer: I have very little linux desktop experience...I've only used command line stuff for work in my previous life. I am joyfully coming off of a long addiction to MS but am having a bit of a hard time adjusting.
ISSUE: I can't seem to figure out how to turn off suspend mode. I have turned every setting I could find in the power management to "do nothing" and I have turned off all of my power mgmt options in the system bios. A "friend" suggested I remove HAL...which caused me to lose my secondary internal HD and all of my usb devices...and the issue persisted. Every 20 minutes of no action the screen blanks and my monitor goes into standby mode which is making watching movies in bed a less than relaxing experience.
Some background that may or may not be useful: I installed kubunutu 10.04 (2.6.32-28-generic) from cd on a fresh HD. Initially I had issues with the wireless network and alsa/pulse sound. I worked through those through much trial and error but the suspend issue persists. I've uninstalled and re-installed lots of packages I probably shouldn't have been messing with and would really like to avoid a reinstall as this seems to be the final fix I need to get things running the way I want them.
My webcam LED turns on whenever my Asus P50IJ laptop wakes up from sleep or suspend, and subsequently will not turn off. I can't tell if my webcam is actually activated or not, and furthermore the light beams right into my eyes and makes my lappy not so usable.
If someone knows why this might be happening or could possibly help me fix it that would be very much appreciated. I'm really trying hard to stick with Linux, but little things like this are making it difficult. I'm kind of a noob, but I'm trying so please be nice.
out of no where it seems ubuntu no longer wants to cooperate when suspending/hibernating. the screen will just turn to a black screen without shutting down. each time i have to maually power down my laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

1. is it possible to schedule this command in the same manner as shutdown ? eg sudo shutdown -h 60
2. is it possible to schedule the laptop to come out of suspend ?
3. i have a usb sound card (xfi go). when waking from suspend, the internal sound card is selected. i have to manually select the external sound card & for whatever reason, also unmute it too
I have Ubuntu 9.04, and a HP laserjet 1018 printer.
I install the printer using:
And when it ask me about plugin I give the path to it. (the 3.9.2 version of the plugin, because Ubuntu 9.04 has the 3.9.2 version of hplip)
well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?
Just got Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm liking it a lot, but my computer refuses to go into hibernate or suspend. I have a Dell M1530 but I don't really think it's a dell hardware issue because it's not just when I close the screen, it's also when I click suspend or hibernate from the menu.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop won't resume after it suspends. It works fine under win 7 so it's not the hardware. The light says it's on and it's pretty much a blank screen. I'm not sure whether it's operational but the screen is off. It has exactly the same resault a waiting for the blank screen except it won't go back on.
View 9 Replies View Relatednew to Ubuntu and enjoying using it, trying out Ubuntu as an alternative to vista, the only thing i have been able to do is suspend and then wake my pc, it fails to wake, is there a workaround for this
have changed settings so pc sleeps after 1 hour, it was on never, i,m running ubuntu9.10 my pc will wake but i have a black screen with mouse icon showing but i,m unable to get any response, all well again after a reset
put pc in suspend and went out, on returning home started pc via on/off switch instead of pressing space bar (any key) hey presto Ubuntu woke up no problem
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. When I partitioned my HDD, I ran out of available partitions and so couldn't make a Swap Partition.I pushed on anyway, because I read here that you can create a Swap File instead of a partition that does the same thing. I've made the Swap File and it's activated (I know because during shutdown there's a message that flashes very quickly that says "Deactivating Swap [OK]".
But here's the real problem. My Ubuntu refuses to Suspend or Hibernate. The screen just goes black and the backlight stays on. Since one of the main functions of the swap file is to facilitate Suspend and Hibernate,I upgraded from 9.10 Karmic Koala, which suspended and hibernated normally.
I've just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 via the upgrade manager. Prior to the upgrade I was able to suspend and hibernate without any problems. Now that I have upgraded to 10.04, I can suspend however when I resume I am back at the gdm login prompt, logging in again with a new session.Having just done another test whilst writing this, it actually appears that if I select suspend from the top right I am suspended and can resume my session. If I close the lid on my laptop (which is supposed to suspend) I am logged out and suspended. Also, Hibernate doesn't work as well - sometimes it never actually hibernates (just sits on a black screen) and sometimes it doesn't resume (it's never hibernated and resumed correctly since the upgrade)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Lucid last night and am now checking various things just to make sure they still work. I've found that Gnome-do won't run the "suspend" option. It does, however, still "restart" and "shutdown" OK. Anybody else having this problem?I also seem to be experiencing some of the "resume from sleep" issues which seem to be plaguing other threads. Laptop suspends fine when the lid is closed but when it's opened again it's just a black screen. Also the machine shuts down for a few seconds then starts again to a black screen.
Key presses do nothing, pushing the power button worked a couple of times but is not consistent so more often than not it needs a forced shutdown and reboot. Not an ideal situation.Suspend from the panel menu works OK and from what I can tell, if the lid is not closed then the power button will bring up the login window.
I recently installed 10.04 LTS and I have no option to suspend my desktop. I have always had the option before. I have Ubuntu installed on two other machines that can all suspend. Has this happened to anyone else? Could it be hardware or would a re-install fix the issue?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Linux Mint 9 (aka Ubuntu 10.04 + a couple of tweaks), and my machine won't wake up from suspend. It hasn't done so successfully since Ubuntu 8.04. I'm running the default graphics driver (not the proprietary NVidia one) on a quad-core Gateway FX. How can I go about figuring out the problem?
View 5 Replies View Relatedthe power management i got says it sleeps or suspends when lid is closed. but what if i closed the lid before i completed shutting down? i did that and im not sure if its wrong. the shut down took more time than usual coz i forgot Transmission was still on and when i closed the lid it appeared the laptop turned off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have the machine suspend when idle at the gdm login screen? I understand it is possible when a user is logged in through the System > Preferences > Power Management controls. What is happening is that the computer is sitting at the login screen and stays on, wasting power. I'd like it to suspend/sleep after a timeout.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed 10.04 in dual boot with xp, completed all updates and tried to suspend. My swap partition is the right size and I don't recall doing anything wrong yet when I wake up the computer after suspending it, the monitor doesn't reactivate and I've had to force it to shut down. And also, now it tells me "networking disabled".
View 2 Replies View RelatedDuring the last install of the the 2.6.32-25 kernel, I was unable to suspend. The screen would go black, but it wouldn't enter suspend. No big deal, I figured I'd just use 24 kernel. Now after the most recent update, I can't suspend in any kernel! The screen goes black, but that's about it. If I move my mouse around, it returns me to the login screen. This isn't the only suspend problem I've had. It won't suspend if there's a DVD in, and the screen used to fade out when you hit suspend, now it just goes black.Another note, the scrolling in a browser was very different. Hard to explain, but it didn't scroll smoothly. It was very "piecy" and "choppy." I worked around it with 24, but now it's stuck here with any kernel as well.
UPDATE--I am unable to play any audio as well. When I open an MP3, no sound. When I try to watch a flash video, no sound.
I have a problem with running script before/after suspend. I tried to use pm-utils for that, i just added my script and script is executed but commands which i need not.
Code:
Interesting thing is, when i use for example touch command, it created file , so i am sure, my script is executed .. this is not executed. Log did not say anything why it didn't executed. only success
Why i need it. When i am connectedd via rdesktop and i would like to go away from pc, PC automaticly turn PC into sleep, so i need to kill rdesktop . and after sleep, i would like to run it again.
when I put my lappy to sleep, it looks as if it sleeps well.... the light blinks, just like when it did on windows when it slept but when I try to wake it up, it powers up the fan and hdd and i see nothing on my screen, it doesn't even light up!! I am always forced to do a hard reset I followed a debug tutorial and got this out of it:
[ 1.355059] Magic number: 0:291:740
[ 1.355065] hash matches /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/drivers/base/power/main.c:419
do I need to blacklist a driver or something?
I have a problem with my custom build HTPC running Ubuntu (10.10).
Specs:
Code:
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5800 3.2 mhz - 2MB cache LGA775 - TRAY
GIGABYTE GA-EG41MFT-US2H DVI + HDMI + VGA (G41) - mATX
4GB RAM (2+2)
Compucase CI-7630 Desktop 250w Black - mATX
The computer won't shutdown or go to sleep. If I try to shut it down or restart it, it will hang at the Ubuntu bootup/shutdown screen forever until powered off. The more serious problem is the sleep mode (As it's an HTPC and should use sleep mode for very fast start up). When I try to suspend it, it ends in a terminal-like mode, where the last line is "Checking Battery State [OK]". It won't continue from there, sometime pressing the power button in that state will wake it up, sometimes a power off is required. Someone in the Ubuntu support chat channel told me to turn off ACPI. It didn't solve anything, but now the last line is "Setting sensor limits [OK]".
On Windows I use software called SpeedFan to turn off a fan that does a whole lot of noise but has no effect on system temperature.
How do I go about turning it off on Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx)? Wine does not support this program.
After i shut it down it wont on back normally.the computer is just running but theres no input in monitor found.. it will only back to normal if i unplug it to the AVR before i turn it on..i know its just a small problem but i dont want to unplug it everytime to use my computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy ubuntu 10.04 doesnt want to turn off my PC (desktop) when I click turn off in the menu. I get no message, and I get no signs of higher system activity. This happens with turning off, rebooting, logging off user. However I can do it from terminal with admin rights.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAll I want to do is to be able to shut the lid on my laptop, have it go into suspend like it already does, but upon opening it again, successfully start up again. It'll sleep just fine, but if you close the lid and try to open it again later, the lights will indicate it is starting up, but the screen won't initialize, and I am left with a blank, black screen.I've tried a line of code to enter into my menu.lst file, and it seemed like it should work, but it borked my computer and I had to manually reinstate the line of code it had before.

I upgraded to latest 10.04 live x64 desktop today. Clean, fresh install. Before I was using 9.04 and had the same issue at first.I don't want the password lock screen when resuming from suspend.I disabled everything, lock in screensaver settings, all lock entries in gconf-editor. I also tried setting LOCK_SCREEN in /etc/default/acpi-support to false.Nothing helps Is this maybe a bug, since it's still beta? I don't know what else to do
