Ubuntu :: Run Script Before/after Suspend

Mar 25, 2011

I have a problem with running script before/after suspend. I tried to use pm-utils for that, i just added my script and script is executed but commands which i need not.

Code:

Interesting thing is, when i use for example touch command, it created file , so i am sure, my script is executed .. this is not executed. Log did not say anything why it didn't executed. only success

Why i need it. When i am connectedd via rdesktop and i would like to go away from pc, PC automaticly turn PC into sleep, so i need to kill rdesktop . and after sleep, i would like to run it again.

If I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

Ubuntu :: Can't Resume From Suspend?

Apr 6, 2010

My laptop won't resume after it suspends. It works fine under win 7 so it's not the hardware. The light says it's on and it's pretty much a blank screen. I'm not sure whether it's operational but the screen is off. It has exactly the same resault a waiting for the blank screen except it won't go back on.

Ubuntu :: Can't Suspend Or Hibernate?

Apr 13, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. When I partitioned my HDD, I ran out of available partitions and so couldn't make a Swap Partition.I pushed on anyway, because I read here that you can create a Swap File instead of a partition that does the same thing. I've made the Swap File and it's activated (I know because during shutdown there's a message that flashes very quickly that says "Deactivating Swap [OK]".

But here's the real problem. My Ubuntu refuses to Suspend or Hibernate. The screen just goes black and the backlight stays on. Since one of the main functions of the swap file is to facilitate Suspend and Hibernate,I upgraded from 9.10 Karmic Koala, which suspended and hibernated normally.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Log Out When Resume From Suspend?

May 6, 2010

I've just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 via the upgrade manager. Prior to the upgrade I was able to suspend and hibernate without any problems. Now that I have upgraded to 10.04, I can suspend however when I resume I am back at the gdm login prompt, logging in again with a new session.Having just done another test whilst writing this, it actually appears that if I select suspend from the top right I am suspended and can resume my session. If I close the lid on my laptop (which is supposed to suspend) I am logged out and suspended. Also, Hibernate doesn't work as well - sometimes it never actually hibernates (just sits on a black screen) and sometimes it doesn't resume (it's never hibernated and resumed correctly since the upgrade)

Ubuntu :: Gnome-do Won't Suspend Any More

May 18, 2010

I upgraded to Lucid last night and am now checking various things just to make sure they still work. I've found that Gnome-do won't run the "suspend" option. It does, however, still "restart" and "shutdown" OK. Anybody else having this problem?I also seem to be experiencing some of the "resume from sleep" issues which seem to be plaguing other threads. Laptop suspends fine when the lid is closed but when it's opened again it's just a black screen. Also the machine shuts down for a few seconds then starts again to a black screen.

Key presses do nothing, pushing the power button worked a couple of times but is not consistent so more often than not it needs a forced shutdown and reboot. Not an ideal situation.Suspend from the panel menu works OK and from what I can tell, if the lid is not closed then the power button will bring up the login window.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Suspend With New Kernel?

Oct 21, 2010

During the last install of the the 2.6.32-25 kernel, I was unable to suspend. The screen would go black, but it wouldn't enter suspend. No big deal, I figured I'd just use 24 kernel. Now after the most recent update, I can't suspend in any kernel! The screen goes black, but that's about it. If I move my mouse around, it returns me to the login screen. This isn't the only suspend problem I've had. It won't suspend if there's a DVD in, and the screen used to fade out when you hit suspend, now it just goes black.Another note, the scrolling in a browser was very different. Hard to explain, but it didn't scroll smoothly. It was very "piecy" and "choppy." I worked around it with 24, but now it's stuck here with any kernel as well.

UPDATE--I am unable to play any audio as well. When I open an MP3, no sound. When I try to watch a flash video, no sound.

Ubuntu :: Can't Shutdown Or Suspend

Feb 20, 2011

I have a problem with my custom build HTPC running Ubuntu (10.10).

Specs:

Code:
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5800 3.2 mhz - 2MB cache LGA775 - TRAY
GIGABYTE GA-EG41MFT-US2H DVI + HDMI + VGA (G41) - mATX
4GB RAM (2+2)
Compucase CI-7630 Desktop 250w Black - mATX

The computer won't shutdown or go to sleep. If I try to shut it down or restart it, it will hang at the Ubuntu bootup/shutdown screen forever until powered off. The more serious problem is the sleep mode (As it's an HTPC and should use sleep mode for very fast start up). When I try to suspend it, it ends in a terminal-like mode, where the last line is "Checking Battery State [OK]". It won't continue from there, sometime pressing the power button in that state will wake it up, sometimes a power off is required. Someone in the Ubuntu support chat channel told me to turn off ACPI. It didn't solve anything, but now the last line is "Setting sensor limits [OK]".

It'll sleep just fine, but if you close the lid and try to open it again later, the lights will indicate it is starting up, but the screen won't initialize, and I am left with a blank, black screen.I've tried a line of code to enter into my menu.lst file, and it seemed like it should work, but it borked my computer and I had to manually reinstate the line of code it had before.

Ubuntu :: Laptop Will Not Resume After Suspend

Apr 22, 2010

Whatever way I suspend my laptop (menu, keyboard shortcut, close lid), it seems to suspend just find (no panic lights, suspend LED indicator flashing as expected). However, when i try to resume, the laptop seems to begin the proper wakeup process (for example, the DVD-drive is tested), there's a lot of HDD activity for about 5 seconds, screen does not power on, and then the laptop just shuts off.

System setup:
lucid beta 2, fully updated (just check now)
LG E-500 laptop /w nvidia gforce mobile 8400G
bios version 1.17 from June 2007 (not sure this is important)

Things I tried:
* Completely remove anything to do with gpu drivers and installed nvidia-current driver.
* Suspend stress test described here. this didn't work at all. The first test failed (with ac adapter attached) and the second test suspended but didn't automatically resume (see "the behavior" above). Also, when I booted up again, no apport bug report is created. I tried both with rtc set to utc=yes and utc=no. with utc=yes, the second test did automatically resume, but the same problem happened (laptop shutdown while resuming).
* The debugging steps described here, but I couldn't get the "no_console_suspend" option to work. I tried adding both "no_console_suspend" and "no_console_suspend=1" (without quotes) to the boot script in the grub menu, but when I did pm-suspend in tty1, the laptop really did suspend. I would like to try to do this again if someone could explain how to add this option.

Notes:
* Not sure this is relevant, but when I boot up after a failed resume attempt, wireless network is disabled (this only happens after a failed resume!!!).
* I found a package called nvram-wakeup in synaptic that seems to be related to this. This package is not installed. Should I install it?
In case this is relevant, forgot to mention I'm running ubuntu in dual-boot along side windows7.

I don't have any problems with 9.04 at all with suspend & resume just shutdown (wont power off usb saitek keyboard & razer mouse) but i don't care for that I prefer suspend & resume. However trying 9.10 suspend works while resume gets a black screen & locks up. Now on 10.04 it will suspend very fast but will not power up from resume keyboard & usb power is turned off thats what I can't figure out I have checked bios & changes settings after settings & nothing happens. I know in windows everything works but i do not want windows at all I prefer linux (ubuntu). In my asus eee pc 1001p suspend & resume works with both 9.10 & 10.04.

Ubuntu :: I/O Frenzy On Wakeup From Suspend

May 17, 2010

When I suspend the computer it is more or less idle. When waking up, the harddrive is maxed out with i/o activity. The drive led is more or less fully on. I am not able to log in to gnome. I can however switch to VT1 and log in there, although it takes ages.

top shows no process activity, but IO Wait is at about 87%. df -h reports several GB free. free -m shows there is over 2GB free RAM.

I installed iotop, which took about two hours. I have attached it's output as it's rather special. In short just about every app is reading as much as it can from disk, including iotop itself!

As seen in the log throughput is not very high, but the disk i/o still puts the system to a crawl.

I killed process after process until it suddenly stopped. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to when, but the i/o hammering stopped when killing one of the following (incomplete process names):

PC specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64
Acer aspire 5740, 4GB RAM, Intel Core i530 dualcore. AMD mobility radeon 5650 1GB.
I use fglrx and compiz is enabled with 'normal' profile.
