Ubuntu :: Battery Icon Not Working After Suspend

Jan 10, 2010

After suspending my computer, the battery icon doesn't work anymore (nothing happens when I put my mouse over it and it doesn't detect wether the computer is plugged in or not). Also, the brightness of the computer doesn't change when I plug/unplug the computer. All of that works fine before i suspend the computer.

Ubuntu :: Battery Icon On Acer Aspire One Not Working

Dec 26, 2010

I just got new netbook for christmas and so I promptly set it up with a dual boot system cause Windows 7 starter is garbage.Anyways after ditching the Netbook Remix because quite frankly I found the Unity setup to be quite garbage. Nothing worked the way I wanted it to and I found it quite annoying.So I ditched it for the regular desktop version. I quickly found that the battery indicator didn't work.

I removed and re added the indicator panel. Nothing. killed the gnome panel and restarted it multiple times. still nothing. Restarted multiple times. nothing. I even reinstalled gnome-power-management to no avail. I also installed laptop-mode-tools and nothing has worked. I went into the power settings and set it to always display the icon and it simply showed a lightning bolt as if there was no battery and it was a tower computer.

If I suspend this toshiba satellite, and the battery is or gets low it will wake from suspend to tell me that it will need to suspend due to a critical low battery. Which is pretty dumb. I've experimented with this by plugging and unplugging the ac adapter.

Debian :: Battery Icon Staying At 100%?

Jun 22, 2011

I've recently installed Squeeze on my laptop. All was fine (except for a small change I needed to make to the GRUB code in order to install and boot it) and I find the OS easy to use. I am sure I will be using it for a long time! I might even change my desktop over to Squeeze as well - I'm using Linux Mint 10 at the moment.I have found just one minor problem: the battery icon continuously shows 100% full, even when the indicator on the laptop is showing that it needs recharging - after about two hours' use.This has not happened before:although the laptop is about two years' old, I have had this battery for only a month, so it has not yet done much work!

Ubuntu Installation :: Lost Battery Icon From Notification Area

Jan 18, 2010

Last night I upgraded to the 10.04 development release, and I am pleased with what I see so far. I ran into a problem, however, with the power manager.I am using an MSI Wind U100.

First, I have lost my battery icon from the notification area. It reappears if I plug in, or unplug my AC adapter.
Second, under, "Power Management Preferences" I have lost my "On Battery Power" tab, leaving only, "On AC Power" and "General"

If I wait about seven minutes, the battery icon will appear in the notification area, but the tab remains lost.The problem is due to update. I have confirmed by installing a fresh 9.10 and upgrading again to 10.04 without making any other changes to system.

Ubuntu :: Network Manager Battery Icon On LXDE Panel?

Jun 30, 2011

I haven't got Lubuntu as such, I've installed LXDE to try it out with Ubuntu 11.04 sometimes. For it to be practical for me I need the battery icon and Network Manager on the panel. I'm assuming this can be done easily enough as Linux Mint LXDE has got it, or Network Manager at least. i need NM to easily start my Mobile Broadband dongle's connection.Also, can touchpad tapping be turned off in LXDE, and how? I have it set up to have no tapping in regular Ubuntu but this is undone when I boot LXDE.

Software :: .desktop Icon Is Not Displayed / Icon Is Not Working In Menu?

Aug 2, 2009

I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
X-SuSE-translate=true
Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility;
Comment=ETM Manager for time logging
Exec=etmmanager
code....

My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.

It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like
Code:
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png

Hardware :: Battery Hotplug Not Working

Sep 23, 2010

I'm running Linux 2.6.35.4 on a Kontron COMExpress board. The device has 2 battery slots so that a user can hot swap batteries while the device is running.The problem I'm having is that battery information is never updated in /sys unless I read /proc/acpi/BAT[12]/state.When booting the device, the battery state is correctly detected by the kernel but after that it seems like nothing happens.

My current solution is to poke at /proc from time to time, it works but I'm forced to compile my kernel with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER which is marked as deprecated..

How can I disable this check so that the laptop will still boot without a battery fitted?

CentOS 5 :: Laptop Automatic Shutdown On Low Battery Not Working

Aug 28, 2010

I'm trying to make my system automatically shutdown once the battery level is low, but still without success. I've tried kpowersave, gnome-power-manager, kpower, klaptop but none of these worked for me. Well, I can't imagine I would be that stupid, but simply it doesn't work. In all cases mentioned above (kpower, klaptop, gnome-power-manager) I've tried to setup the laptop to shutdown once the defined level is reached, but the laptop never actually switched off unless all the battery was drained.

Btw. I think all the above mentioned apps only work once the user is logged in. But I'd like the solution to work also when the PC is on without anyone logged in. I thought I could write a bash script based on parsing of acpitools output and define it as a service, which would monitor the battery level, but I simply don't believe there isn't any functional solution to this.

Ubuntu :: Suspend Function Is Not Working Properly?

May 22, 2010

Computer is an ACER Power F6, BIOS AMI F6, XPPro installed, C only 80 Gygabites, 2 Gyg RAM, 3000MHZ Pentium4.today I installed 10.0.4 from Canonical 32 bit, all was ok,I followed the suggested dual boot partition and proceedings,which gave XP 44 Gyga and Ubuntu 37 Gyga ,successfully finished install,rebooted and began updating and customizing with great zest as I was really happy about this new version. then I decided to make a break of an hour and thought : 'let's try now the suspend function as i read about it not working properly sometimes'.....so an hour later i tried to revive from suspension,but the pc remains utterly insensitive and black.Tried Del to get into BIOS,F12 to get to boot config,BART PE disk i made for an XP machine in the past, and tried to boot again from the live Ubuntu Cd .....all in vain.I suspect it might be the fact the BIOS was set by me for

1st Floppy
2nd CDROM
3rd HD or PenDrive

as this machine I inherited since a few days dates back to 2006 and has no burner only CD-DVD reader and Floppy is disabled in BIOS.After Ubuntu install the machine stopped for a long time on a black screen with white reading about errors during install,then I reset it and it seemed like a good install anyway.Apart from checking if the HD is still ok,what can I do or try in such a situation?

Ubuntu :: Suspend Not Working, And Grub Menu Gone?

Mar 3, 2011

I have two problems, that I can live with, but they are just annoying for tha afact that I don't know how to fix them.1. My suspend does not work. Hibernation works - after I turn on after the hibernation, screen is blank, I have to move the mouse for the login window to appear. For Suspend, I get to the black screen, but then nothing happens - when I move the mouse or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, nothing. It is a laptop, if that makes a difference.2. When booting, I get a table of choices - the new kernel, the old kernel, memtests and the long gone windows partition. There is no /etc/grub/menu.lst and I've got no idea how to change this.

Ubuntu :: Audio Not Working After A Failed Suspend?

Mar 25, 2011

EDIT: I found my problem--the box next to headphone box had been unticked, and I feel like a total doof for not having found that during my first two hours of trying to fix this. But I could still use some help figuring out my suspend problems issue--I've heard constantly turning a compy on and off is bad for it somehow.

A couple days ago I attempted to put my computer into suspend mode. When I used regular Ubuntu, this seldom worked. My hard drive would continue spinning, and the computer would not come out of this state until I cut the power and restarted. I thought it might be worth giving a try in Xubuntu, but I ran into the same problems, only this time, the audio would not work when I booted up.

I'm using the 64-bit version of Xubuntu, and this is a relatively fresh install (within the past two weeks) from the version 10.10 DVD, so I haven't had too much time to fudge up the settings yet, so I think it might not be entirely my fault. (: I've checked the hardware, and everything is plugged in and turned on, and I'm getting sound when I boot up Windows.

I may have done something afterwards, though. My first attempt at fixing the problem was to follow these instructions, but I really didn't understand entirely what I was doing. I tried fiddling around with the alsa mixer, but that didn't help me at all, and now it has even disappeared from the upper right-hand corner of my screen--on the toolbar. (If there's a way I could get that back and restore the default settings, [EDIT: I found alsamixer in the applications menu.]

I'd like to have audio working again, but I'm not really sure what's wrong or how to fix it. I'm still reading through Introduction to the Command Line, but as my previous attempt to solve this issue shows, I'm not smart enough to be afraid of entering commands in that I completely do not understand (yet).
