Ubuntu :: Use Secon Lan Card To Forward Internet To A Second Computer?
Jan 3, 2011
I have a computer who has a wireless card I use for my local network and Internet. I have a second network card on this computer (onboard lan card), that I would like to use to forward an Internet connection to a older-generation laptop computer.
Main Computer Connection to Internet:
Internet > Wireless Router > Computer A
Laptop Computer:
Computer A > Laptop (via cat5 cable connecting my main computer to the laptop)
I have a computer with a BSD subsystem that is acting as a router to other Windows computers.
On one of my Windows, I have an Apache Web Server that I want people to access from the outside world.
So, I have created an ipfw rule in my router computer that goes like this: ipfw add 100 fwd 10.0.2.2 ip from any to any dst-port 2443
Thing is, nothing happens.
I've tried changing the ServerName in my Apache to match my IP address (which is the destination IP of the incoming packets, I imagine) but still, nothing.
I'm trying to make my wireless router always give me the same ip address every boot (192.168.1.100). I do not have a static ip address from my isp.
Everything I've tried from online help has made my internet break and I'm not even sure what exactly I should be searching for on google.
Ultimately, I'm trying to get my wireless router to forward ftp requests to my computer which shares the network with an xp machine. I think this is the way to go about it.
I notice that my bittorrent client is capable of automatically setting up port forwards with my router, and I want to know if I can do the same in a shell script. The reason is, that since my router is stupid and won't let me keep static IP addresses (it seems they forced a DHCP refresh every week to make me want to pay for a more expensive model which doesn't), I need to get my computer to change the port forward to follow my computer's changing internal network IP address. I have a couple of port forward manually entered into my router settings for web interfaces to bittorrent etc, but of course these have a good chance of being invalidated at each DHCP refresh cycle.
While I have Transmission running, whether it be up/downloading or just open with one thing unpaused and no activity, all other computer functions that need internet access are unusable. Transmission says my port is closed in its preferences.
1. How do I find and open port? 2. Will finding an open port solve the problem of all things internet not working while Transmission is? 3. Do I need to create a static ip in order to forward a port through my router? 4. Will creating a static ip and forwarding that port solve my problem of only being able to use the internet while Transmission is on?
I am making a content filter for a school. I have a computer with Ubuntu Server and the SOCKS proxy, a DD-WRT router, and a switch. how I could forward all requests through the SOCKS proxy before sending it to the Internet.
I'm sure this is a bridging issue and there is just some option I'm not setting correctly. Also, the reason I'm connecting the Xbox 360 directly to the linux box and not to the router is for traffic monitoring purposes. Note that all connections and functionality work perfectly when the Xbox IS connected through the router.
I just upgraded my fedora 13 to fedora 14. I changed the cpu and the motherboard so i had to install from scratch...but I saved my iptables. The problem is that I do all the suff service iptables save And apparently it works... But everytime I reboot I have to re run the script to forward Internet...Everything else works just fine...I mean I can ssh, vnc, etc but wont forward intel :S dont know why?
I'm interested in installing Privoxy on CentOS. I have two nics and would like to setup this on my network. One nic will be inside and all computers will use the inside address to get to the proxy. The other nic will connect to my FW and forward traffic to the internet.
I understand I need to change config file for the listening ip "inside ip:8118", but how do I forward out the the outiside interface to get to the internet? Does Privoxy just pass the DNS request like web traffic?
My Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 on my Asus EEE PC 1000HE computer does not recognize SD card."sudo fdisk -l" command does not result anything related to SD card even when the card is in the slot.
I live in northern Canada. I am not in a high speed internet zone but use an alternative method which I pay lots of money to get high speed. However I am restricted to 5 GB of traffic per month.
Now I have to computers running Ubuntu. So for example, if I want to install TuxPaint on my first PC then I would go to the software center and it would download then install the software for me. Now if I wanted to install the same program on my second computer it would download it again. The problem is that this would download twice as much from the internet. Is there any way that I can save internet bandwidth by using the download files from my first computer to install the program on my second computer? Similarly, can I only download updates once but install them on both computers?
I have a Belkin Wireless G F5D7230-4. I was attempting to configure a wireless card on another computer on my network when it froze during the reboot phase after making settings adjustments. The wired connection is fine, except on that computer that I was making the adjustments from. It won't connect at all. I plugged a friends netbook into the same wired line and it connected. Also there is no wireless signal on any laptops. Mac, Win Linux, don't matter. I tried all the various methods of resetting to default but still when I try to access the router's config page @ http://192.168.2.1 I get the error Code: The server at 192.168.2.1 is taking too long to respond.
The first two times I entered the wireless key on the prompt that appeared shortly after login, the computer froze completely. ctr-alt-f1 ctr-alt-backspace did nothing. The third time, I closed the first prompt and after 10 minutes I tried connecting again. It didn't freeze, at first. The internet worked. It took about 10 minutes later for it to freeze. Now, whenever I boot up, it freezes a few seconds after login. I can boot recovery mode, but I don't know what to do from there. Heres some info I got from the recovery mode:
Computer Brand: Sony PCV RX850 Ubuntu 10.4 32 bit 2.6.32-21-generic i686 Realtec 8185L chipset iwconfig
i found ubuntu 904 can work on my old computer machine with a built in ati display card.updating as it return a message saying that the repository may not be available..
I have a SMCWPCI-G2 pci card wireless And, both in Ubuntu and Windows,at any time, suddenly, the computer stop, blocked completely, and i cannot do nothing. When the card is out, i have no problem. But today, in the Bios, I've found two options about pci: the first one is "PCI Latency Timer" which value is set to "32", and BIOS allows to change32,64,96,128,160,192,224 and 248. Maybe the "32" value isn't correct, isn't it?? What do you think about? if I change value "32" to other value, Can i solve the problem? I haven't made the change because i am prudent (if I cause an error in the MotherBoard or similar). The second option is "PCI IDE BusMaster" which is set to "Enabled"
I'm just about to set up my own home network here and I'd like to be able to control my Linux desktop over the network. VNC would be what I would normally use in this case, but the requirements are a bit different.
I basically need to be able to start work on something here on my desktop and continue that work seamlessly on a laptop or netbook as I'm moving around. I want to be able to literally pick up exactly where I left off and control my host computer's mouse pointer location, keyboard, etc and not have to open any windows: I need to be able to start from EXACTLY where I left off.
I have a problem with my internet connection. It is turning on and off all the time. I can maybe surf 3 sites without a problem then the internet goes really slow and after that I wont be able to surf at all. After a while it works fine. I can't even look on ..... videos because all of them stop at half or before. I have connected to my router through my cellphone and my ps3 and those two are working just fine.
I am running ubuntu 10.04 64bits. I don't know what network card my computer has.
I have a computer running XP with a wireless Internet connection. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a second computer. I would like to connect my Ubuntu computer to the internet through a wired connection to the XP computer. As I am a newby to Linux commands could someone explain how to do this in laymans terms.
I have 2 computers connected to my linksys router via ethernet cables.
My main computer is running Ubuntu while the other is Xubuntu.
When both comps are on, the internet works fine, but when my second computer is off, my main computer has super slow internet. Sometimes it takes 2 minutes and I get "This webpage is not available", and then I refresh that and it finally loads.
Why does it work when both comps are on? What could cause this?
I'd like to set up remote desktop which I can access from any computer with a VNC client, without knowing the IP address in advance and without having access to the "server" at the time of access. I'm aware of the security risks, but there's nothing critical on the server computer, and I'll make sure I use a good password, so I'd still like to go ahead. Is this possible?
i have a doubt about NS3, can use the actual network card of my computer in the simulator NS3, that is, if my network card can behave as programmed into the simulator.
Turning an old computer of mine into a server and I don't have an ethernet with me to connect it to the router so I was just wondering if I can install Ubuntu Server without being connected to the internet.
I need to back up a Windows computer to a Ubuntu server across the internet. It needs to be secure as I'm transferring business data. I have been searching high and low and am only coming up with sporadic, half solutions.
I have a laptop with internet and ubuntu, and a desktop without internet, and I need to install some pakages on it. I did my research and generated a script to download them from synaptic, but when I double click it, it opens it gedit, when it is supposed to download the packages. What am I doing wrong? I was using this article [URL]
Lately my computer, while connected to our router and using the internet, drags the connection speed of everyone in the house down tremendously, to the point of being unusable in many cases. Even buffering a ..... video causes tremendous lag across the network, making second-long load times stretch to a minute or more.
Now, our connection isn't the greatest, but ..... shouldn't cause that much lag, so I'm thinking there's something else at work. Is there some application I could use to monitor what programs on my computer are accessing the internet?
Would it be possible to insert another wired network card into the router-connected computer, share the internet connection and be able to transfer files between the two?
