View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I tried to install Ubuntu on my Acer Aspire ASE380 desktop, and I think during the partition portion. I think I messed up the hard drive.
Now my computer won't recognize my hard drive. I've tried using the acer repair disks I made, I tried unplugging and checking all the cords and lines, I tired flashing the BIOS, I've tried using other boot disks like Ultimate boot CD, and Acer support is no help either.
I really don't know what to do now. It shows nothing in the boot setup or the BIOS set up. I've also tired the ALT - F10 for acer computers to enter and repair partition and nothing.
I just want to get this thing up and running. I'm tempted to just buy a new hard drive.
My computer doesn't recognize when I put in my headphones.
How can I fix this.
How do I get Bitpim to work on my lg vu cu920 phone on Ubuntu 10.04? I have the data cable. I seen serval peoples said they got it to work but they never said how. I set the phone to the lg-vx8700. Sometime I get ports that will be open and then not. It doesn't mount under the mass storage. Would be awesome if someone on here could explain how they did it. Believe me I looked all over google and the forums and they all talk about they got it to work but no further details. Can't really bring up really old threads on here.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu installed on a separate drive. Dual boot with win XP. It was working out fine..Then, and I don't remember exactly when, the boot process was interrupted saying Drive 2 not found..the Ubuntu drive. So I press F2 and enter BIOS setup. I have to cycle through the drives to #2, select 'on', then leave BIOS setup. OK so far..I can confuse myself.. Anyhow, my computer will then continue to the Dual boot screenWindows will load fine, but Ubuntu goes to a command line screen for grub>.When I push 'Esc' I go to a screen with several commands listed, most of which return me to the grub> prompt..the 'reboot' command sends me back through the Bios process, the 'halt' command shuts down the computer. Grub> wants something and I don't know what it is. Do you think I'll have to reinstall? Bad hard drive?I'd like to get my Ubuntu back really just getting to get a feel for the system.

Is there some way (preferably open-source) that I can get this keyboard to work? It works completely fine on my Ubuntu 11.04 machine.The keyboard is not from a big manufacturer, but it's model number is W-9868. I already looked for an official driver and I got nothing.

When I do a search of my video card I get "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF", which is the integrated card on the motherboard, but I'm actually using an Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400. At least that's the card my VGA monitor is connected to. How do I get Ubuntu to recognize the Nvidia card? I'd like to try installing an nvidia legacy driver for it to boost performance. Thanks.

I want to add SUSE 11.2 but don't know how to go about loading it onto my machine. On restart the computer does not recognize the CD in my rom drive and only asks if I won't to load Windows or Ubuntu. How do I go about adding another OS to my hard drive ? I have an old Gateway with 130Gb hard drive and plenty of unallocated drive space and 512Mb of Ram. I use Windows rarely (almost never but do need it for some applications) and mostly rely on Ubuntu which my wife and I both like and use daily but I want to look at and experience other Linux installations as well

just installed ubuntu but it doesn't recognise my wireless card. I'm running an emachines g720. Ive tried looking through some previous posts but the terminal thing frightens me to death really.I've tried looking through the idiots guide but i'm afraid i'm a better idiot than that.

Everything runs fine except I can't get the wifi to work, and it won't recognize the driver either, actually it doesn't recognize any drivers.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with recognising my mobile phone's memory card in Ubuntu 9.10. When I plug the phone in it starts the mass storage mode, but nothing happens in the PC. I suspect that I may have deleted phone's icon from the desktop, and I don't know how to bring it back. Also the memory card doesn't appear anywhere: nor in the Places tab, nor in Media folder.The phone is Samsung U900 Soul.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot get the restricted Nvidia drivers or the Nouveau drivers to work completely. If the Nouveau drivers are being used (after an "apt-get purge nvidia-*"), the text mode seems to work ok, but the X nouveau driver acts as if it cannot recognize the card. The only way I can get into X is to make sure I have the "nv" driver in the xorg.conf. I can then get into X normally.
If I install nvidia-current, the machine will just lock up at the splash screen. The Xorg.0.log file is zero bytes. I've checked and installing nvidia-current properly blacklists the nouveau drivers and I see no evidence in the messages file that the nouveau drivers tried to load in text mode. In fact, it shows the nvidia driver loading for console mode. I've tried the nouveau.modeset=0 kernel option as well, but that doesn't do anything. This is a fairly new nvidia card, maybe only a couple months old. I think it's been out for quite some time though. But it was working fine under Karmic with the restricted drivers. I really want to get this working as I need full support of the video card.
I had Karmic a while back, but i got rid of it becasue of my Bcm4312 Wireless Card would not recognize the STA driver, or bcm43xx.In that time i learned a bit of command line stuff. anyways now that I have my internet working, I was just wondering What I could do with ubuntu. I am interested in the command line and Programming. Where could I learn more about the 2 subjects?

I've tried inserting another card with only one fat32 partition and the system doesn't mount it. Both cards are visible in gparted byt not in "Places" menu.

When I type fdisk -l, I get the following message code...
i'm run'n knoppix 6.5 (i think) from a usb stick. under 'ifconfig' it finds 'eth0', but when i put in 'iwconfig eth0' it says: 'eth0 no wireless extensions'. i've tried other linux live cd's but to no avail...interestinly enough, when i run a linux (ubuntu) live cd on my virtual pc it hooks up(?..i figure bcuz its reading from da virtual ethernet?) further more, i researched it to the conclusion that the driver is not being detected. i tried ndiswrapper (under 'puppy') but tht didnt work either ( i've downloaded the lastes version of ndiswrapper and i plan on trying it again w/ the installation disk of the wireless card). however, even in my research i've seen there seem to be a difficulty in getting this particular driver to work? (netgear wg311v3 - wireless g pci adapter) how i can over come this problem? i'm kinda new @ linux, but i like the challenge. it doesnt matter wat linux system (the responder) i'll download it. but i'm really trying to get 1 online cuz i have to learn how to work the packaging systems.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to recognize my video card ATI Radeon X1200 and I have to boot in safe graphics mode. I can use my computer but the display is a bit off. I have tried to install the ATI driver but get the following:
