View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving trouble figuring this out. I've got a package that I've installed from out-of-repos and Kubuntu feels the need to "upgrade" this package to a version that I do not want to use. I've found out how to do this in Ubuntu, but not in Kubuntu. A commandline solution would be fine, although I've googled it and not come up with any working results.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my system today from Kubuntu 10.10 (or whatever the last full release was) to 11.04 using the automated web process. I know, I know, I should have tested off a live cd or a thumb drive, foolish mistake. On upgrade the video card works, and it boots fine... but I have no keyboard and mouse. I checked the forums and realized that maybe it was a problem with the brand of keyboard and mouse I was using. so I've tried four manufacturers (even tried switching between wired and bluetooth) to no avail.I've also tried starting in recovery mode, but the problem persists.
To be specific, my bios sees the hardware just fine, and I'm able to hold down shift and pull up the selection options pre-OS, and select which one to run... and I can see the red optical light on the mouse no problem, so it's not a defect of either the motherboard or the input devices themselves. However, once in the OS, in recovery mode, or anything else, I'm left without a keyboard or mouse. As my system only has USB ports and not PS2, I can't check a hardware spec beyond what I've tried. Also, it doesn't work if I select the "boot into an older version of linux" which is odd.Can someone make a recommendation? Is there a way to get a liveboot cd of the previous version of Kubuntu that worked?
does a version for kubuntu 11.04 64bit for a intel processor exists.
When I download the 64 Bit Version of kubuntu.org, the filename is named with "amd" at the end, but I need a version for intel bit64 (icore7).
I see a few guides for Ubuntu on a thumb drive, but will it work for Kubuntu?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a fedora 11 with kernel package: kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686
I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)
Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?
You may tell from my question that I haven't got much Linux experience, but I'm currently having a problem where OpenOffice.org won't save anything, and I'm trying to update it. I've downloaded the latest 64 bit debian installer, and when I unpack it, there's a shell script file called "update" which is set to executable. If I click on that file nothing happens (WINE seems to have associated itself with shell scripts, and nothing happens when I try and open them through Dolphin) and if I paste its name into the terminal it says dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege. If I type su and then type my password it says "su: Authentication failure". I only entered one password during the kubuntu installation process and that was the password for my user login, so that is the password I'm trying to use with su.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter a recient update to the freenx libraries KDE on Kubuntu 10.04 stopped working but other desktops like gnome kept running. The problem wasn't in the normal log files, but it was found in the .xsession-errors file in the user directory on the server. After the update NX is trying to start kde with the /usr/bin/startkde4 command which doesn't exist. Instead make a link from /usr/bin/startkde to the non existent /usr/bin/startkde4 and it will work again. To do this use the command:
Code:
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/startkde /usr/bin/startkde4

I've installed the LG updating program, and it works fine through the handset verification stage, downloads the software; but when we get to the install stage it will only get to 4% on its progress bar then stops there. We wait and wait, it doesn't get any further, then eventually my virtual XP just freezes up.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've spent all day trying to work this out. We have a ticketing system (request tracker), which polls a POP3 mailbox for new inbound ticket emails. We've upgraded both our mailserver to exchange 2007 and are trialling RT on a new ESXi host. While this arrangement has worked perfectly for 2 years on exchange 2003, 2007 gives you the option of using TLS.
Unfortunately, the version of fetchmail in the repositories for 10.04 (fetchmail 6.3.9) just does not want to work with exchange 2007, no matter what i specify in /etc/fetchmailrc, however by playing around with the production RT server, I've found that upgrading fetchmail to 6.3.17 (which is the latest version) just makes everything work again.
However, I've pretty much broken the fetchmail install on my production box - I now seem to have both 6.3.9 & 6.3.17 installed on there, and if I use /etc/init.d/fetchmail to restart it, it'll restart 6.3.9 which then generates errors about certificates and never collects any mail, however if I manually start fetchmail then it starts 6.3.17 (which is the version that i want the init script to start for me).
So, 2 questions. How do I fix my garbled install of fetchmail on my production box, and how do I upgrade my ESXi instance to fetchmail 6.3.17 without breaking anything? I'm happy with doing the ./configure and make install to get 6.3.17 on the box, but it then extracts it to my home directory - what do I do then to update the 6.3.9 fetchmail files that are currently in existance?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter and it works perfectly in Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04, but when I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 I had to restart my computer several times before the wireless card would start and I would be able to connect to any networks? I then changed to Fedora 14 and the problem was also present so I assumed the problem was my wireless card and not the operating system. However I recently wondered if it was the OS again and went back to 10.04 and my wireless card works flawlessly again. So I'm wondering if there was an update to the drivers in Ubuntu 10.10, and I assume Fedora 14 using the same version? How would I be able to see if they did change? And how would I be able to use the version of the drivers in Ubuntu 10.04 in 10.10 if it is the drivers what changed?
