I've spent all day trying to work this out. We have a ticketing system (request tracker), which polls a POP3 mailbox for new inbound ticket emails. We've upgraded both our mailserver to exchange 2007 and are trialling RT on a new ESXi host. While this arrangement has worked perfectly for 2 years on exchange 2003, 2007 gives you the option of using TLS.
Unfortunately, the version of fetchmail in the repositories for 10.04 (fetchmail 6.3.9) just does not want to work with exchange 2007, no matter what i specify in /etc/fetchmailrc, however by playing around with the production RT server, I've found that upgrading fetchmail to 6.3.17 (which is the latest version) just makes everything work again.
However, I've pretty much broken the fetchmail install on my production box - I now seem to have both 6.3.9 & 6.3.17 installed on there, and if I use /etc/init.d/fetchmail to restart it, it'll restart 6.3.9 which then generates errors about certificates and never collects any mail, however if I manually start fetchmail then it starts 6.3.17 (which is the version that i want the init script to start for me).
So, 2 questions. How do I fix my garbled install of fetchmail on my production box, and how do I upgrade my ESXi instance to fetchmail 6.3.17 without breaking anything? I'm happy with doing the ./configure and make install to get 6.3.17 on the box, but it then extracts it to my home directory - what do I do then to update the 6.3.9 fetchmail files that are currently in existance?
I have a fedora 11 with kernel package: kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686
I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)
Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?
I am looking for a version of vmware that manages 2 severs at the same time and that mirrors them such that if one goes down we can still work on the second and of course it also works as a backup. Also, must work on a ubuntu server I have looked but there are so many version that I don't know which one is the best.
I'm working on a home project to build a VM server. I'm have older hardware (IBM x306) and my processor doesn't have built-in virtualization support, so I'm going with VirtualBox. That seems to give me the most flexibility with supported guest OS's on my P4 processor. I'm using CentOS 5.4 installed on a software RAID1 array and I ran into an issue where every time I try to create a fixed-size virtual hard drive my whole server locks up. I think VirtualBox may have a problem managing virtual hard drives on a software RAID (unconfirmed).Anyway my idea is to create 2 mirrored volumes using LVM to see if that works out any better. I started reading up on it and found this article. My server only has 2 hard drive bays (it's 1U) and the article says that 3 physical disks are really necessary for true fault tolerance.
I have Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit installed. Update manager tells me there are updates available, but when i try to install them, downloading the updates fail and throws this error:
Code:
Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/e/eglibc/libc6-i386_2.10.1-0ubuntu16_amd64.deb
Consequently, a similar error occurs when I try installing Sun Java 6 Runtime.
Code:
Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/multiverse/s/sun-java6/sun-java6-jre_6-15-1_all.deb Connection failed [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]
Ubuntu Restricted Extras stalls when it's time to download the Java package I tried synaptic, update manager, aptitude, apt-get, and they all throw similar errors. Then I also tried connecting to different servers, to no avail. So to check if it's my connection to the net that has problems somehow, I tried downloading the file directly through my web browser, and it works. (But it's not recommended, and it won't let me!, install the updates manually, right?) I tried searching for the errors on the net and in the forums, and they're all somehow related to proxy servers. I then checked if I'm using some inappropriate proxy settings, and everywhere it's all set up to connect to the net directly, which is, well, my setup.
Take note though, that I am able to install other softwares normally, i.e, using synaptic, apt-get etc. The ones I tried include Pidgin and Mplayer. It's just these updates and Java:
Code:
jeanne@jeanne-desktop:~$ sudo sudo aptitude upgrade W: The "upgrade" command is deprecated; use "safe-upgrade" instead. Reading package lists... Done
I was running 10.04 LTS and had decided to stick to the LTS versions as I'm now running my machine as a server and don't want to be updating regularly.Every time I logged in via SSH I got a message telling me there where packages to update including a security update. So I did a search to find out how to perform an update on Ubuntu server from the command line. What I found was to do this:sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get dist-upgradeAfter doing that I rebooted but now my machine gives me this message:
init: ureadahead-other main process (794) terminated with status 4Your disk drives are being checked for errors, this may take some timePress C to cancel all checks currently inprogressI'm not pressing C yet and leaving it alone to finish, but I noticed when the machine booted that one of the options for booting talked about Ubuntu 10.10, so I'm worried that I've updated from 10.04 LTS to 10.10 by accident?
A few hours ago one of my sites posted a new gimp version for Linux but i don't want bz2 files i want deb/ppa anyone know where i can one of those things?
There is a new java update for security. I checked my java version here: [URL] and it said I have v. 6.20 installed even after unsuccessful trial to install their linux package following their vague instructions I think I followed well. What do I do?
A friend has an Android smartphone - LG GT45 I think - it's currently using Android version 1.6 and she wants to update to 2.1 or whatever. But she doesn't own a computer. I only use Ubuntu, but I also have XP as a VirtualBox guest. I've installed the LG updating program, and it works fine through the handset verification stage, downloads the software; but when we get to the install stage it will only get to 4% on its progress bar then stops there. We wait and wait, it doesn't get any further, then eventually my virtual XP just freezes up.
I've install F10 to use it as server and router and found a strange problem on my XP machine which is behind the F10. I've tried to update my Lineage2 client from official server but the update crash, tried to open the web page it didn't open. Also tried to open microsoft web it didn't open. When i try to open the same pages on PC with F10 they open with no problem.
I have an 10.10 Maverick Ubuntu, and I've tried to update it to Natty version, but when I try it says to I check my connection with Internet and then close the update app, but my connection is fine, I think this could be something related to the host, since when I try to use sudo or play Frets on Fire it says that they "couldn't resolve the host".
I was told by my security officer that I must remove SSL 2.0 and start using version SSL 3.0 due to security vulnerability. I don't even know how I can check on the current version, let alone upgrading to the current version we're running.

Is there a way to upgrade cups to support the latest printers? For example if I am using 8.04 LTS server and I buy a newish printer, it won't work. Am I able to add a repository or apt-get upgrade to get the latest version?
I've got an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter and it works perfectly in Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04, but when I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 I had to restart my computer several times before the wireless card would start and I would be able to connect to any networks? I then changed to Fedora 14 and the problem was also present so I assumed the problem was my wireless card and not the operating system. However I recently wondered if it was the OS again and went back to 10.04 and my wireless card works flawlessly again. So I'm wondering if there was an update to the drivers in Ubuntu 10.10, and I assume Fedora 14 using the same version? How would I be able to see if they did change? And how would I be able to use the version of the drivers in Ubuntu 10.04 in 10.10 if it is the drivers what changed?
I wanted to update to the latest version of flumotion, but download on their site is only available for early'er versions of Gutsy and Hardy. Who do I talk to about updating 10.04 LTS version? I want to create a streaming server for live streaming and I want to the new features and bug fixes.
I downloaded Java into my home folder instead of downloading it in my usr folder because it wouldn't let me(even when I was root user). It is present in my home folder with its own directory, but I am unsure how to use it. I downloaded Java to try to play Minecraft, but when I open then .jar file with the directory nothing happens. The actual directory contains the following
folders:bin, javaws, lib, man, plugin, copyright, licens e,a read me file, thirdpartylicensereadme, and a welcome.html file. I don't like running Minecraft with OpenJDK because it lags tremendously and it won't close, and I heard the "real Java" runs it much better.Did I download it incorrectly, if so can you tell me how?
I've installed Opensuse 11.4 and I would like update kontact 4.6 version. How I can do it? I've added the repository Index of /repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/SC:/kdepim46/KDE_Distro_Factory_openSUSE_11.4 but I can't update.
I'm a Linux novice and I'm looking to update the netbeans from the 6.8 to version 7.0. What's the best way to do this, can I just do a search in Yast and delete the 6.8 before I download and run the 7.0 script? Or should I do a side by side install?
