After i upgraded my server from 10.04 to 10.10 one main user account(the one i use to su) has lost the contents of the public_html directory, I'm not sure why this has happened all other users accounts are intact, i had this issue once before and fixed it, but i cannot seen to find the solution to this now.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to upgrade from 10.4 to 10.10. I have never had a problem upgrading before with the Update Manager. Now I get an error message when using the Update Manager. The message says, "Could not calculate the upgrade". See screenshots. I also checked the package manager for broken packages and came up with nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter Ubuntu autoupgraded my Apache, some VHosts are nor working anymore and PHP Code is not oarsed any longer. I think the apache2.conf was overwritten. I do not have a clue how ti fix that, I tried some things but now I am stuck. I have only three hosts: the default, an svn (over port 443) and one called "imcar" which has PHP scripts to be parsed.
So, in my apache2.conf I have this:

If I go to imcar in the browser, the default DocumentRoot is shown. If I remove the default DocumentRoot, I get a 404 on imcar.
I have a PCI compliance notice sitting here telling me to upgrade to Apache 2.2.17. Thing is, Ubuntu is quite happy sitting on 2.2.16 (Ubuntu).
I understand that the Ubuntu folks' reasoning in rolling security updates back to 2.2.16, but I need to get an automated scan to shut up.

Unfortunately I seem to have hit some walls. When trying to execute ./config.nice I get the following error:
./config.nice: 33: /build/buildd/apache2-2.2.14/configure: not found
Google have not yielded any results as yet. If I leave out this step and use configure, make and make install, v2.2.19 gets installed, but to a different directory and all the config will need to be reformatted as it seems it does not use the Ubuntu Apache config structure.
upgrading my apache 1.3 to the latest 2.2, have installed 1.3 through binary. Have also installed mysql and PHP and currently they work fine with apache 1.3.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried on both 10.04 and 10.10. I apt-get install apache2, and put a simple "hello world" perl script in /usr/lib/cgi-bin, but when calling the script via the webserver I get a 404 "file not found" error.
/etc/apache2/sites-available/default already contained (out of the box)

I've set up a server running Ubuntu 10.10 (desktop) with apache. Problem is: When I try to configure multiple virtual hosts I can only access the first one. I'm sure that I'm missing something basic in my setup, but I cannot seem to figure out what.
What I want is simply two virtual hosts, one only available on the LAN where I can test my php files and one "live" available from the outside.
Heres what I've done:
Installed Apache2.2
Copy /etc/apache2/sites-available/default -> /etc/apache2/sites-available/dev
Modified "dev" config DocumentRoot and Document to point to /var/www/dev
Modified "dev" config VirtualHost to <VirtualHost *:1337> (port change right?)
Modified "default" config DocumentRoot and Document to point to /var/www/live

Live works fine, but dev cannot connect (as if there is no server there).
I've downloaded and installed Apache, mySQL and PHP via YAST. The web server is up and running and I am able to create and modify databases in phpMyAdmin. What's strange is that I am working on some other websites which use php includes to deliver my stylesheets, scripts etc. However, these includes do not work. I can view my website but all I see is the output from the html within the php file. Anything that is being delivered through includes does not display or run so all my content is unstyled.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slackware 13. Apache has been configured and running. That is to say, I can access the server pages on my machine locally using the current DHCP IP address.
However I'm unable to access it from outside (say from a friends's house) using the same DHCP IP address. I read on the internet somewhere that some DSL providers disable port 80 to prevent individuals from hosting. I don't know if that's the case but I did try specifying different ports in httpd.conf and added the port number to the IP address URL but still didn't work.

I saw some LQ threads which said that the problem could be in the firewall. I don't think I have a firewall but I'm not sure. How do I know that?
I'm just trying some stuff without much concern for security at this point. I understand that a DHCP address can change but for now I don't mind entering the IP address explicitly.
i installed apache 2.2.15 in my system its working properly.... but i deployed some php files in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs ... i was not able to run that php files ..... if i run that php file in browser it shows content of that file... for an example i created one test.php file(it contains <?php echo "hello world" ?>) and put it in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs... if i run in browser using this [URL] its shows in browse like this <?php echo "hello world" ?>......

I tested Apache and my PHP earlier and it worked. Now after SSL and FTP installation it doesn't work anymore! Also I am wondering about my server name, it is the set IP of the web server, surly i should change that? Only used link for SSL set-up, used diff links for apache php etc (also have java JRE installed as I will need that later for my app) also have GNOME available, but prefer command line.
What I really want to do is compile an apache version that uses the same layout as the version included with CentOS. I can not however find the correct layout.conf file. The one from the Apache Source doesn't have a REHL or CentOS option.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI suspect that this has come up numerous times, but I am new to Linux and I am setting up a new in-house server using Ubuntu 9.04 and Apache, etc. I can see the welcoming "It Works!" message when I log in via Firefox. I can see "index.html" when I FTP the server with the site name and password at /var/www. I can also see the -rw-r-r-- attributes, but I can't edit the HTML file or replace it. When I try to rename the "index.html" file.
I get the following message: "Request denied. Verify that the file or folder exists and that you have the necessary permissions on the server to perform the requested operation."
I haven't been able to determine where to enter the password or what changes I need to make to be able to work with the /var/www directory via FTP.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a newbie to linux of 4 weeks. I set up my first web server and it works flawlessly - when accessed from external network or from other computers on my lan. However, I cannot access it from the computer where the server is run on. I have found numerous people with similar problems but the flavour I am experiencing is somewhat different and no solutions I have found apply to it.I have two network interfaces on my server, eth0 (public static IP connected to internet) and eth1 connected to LAN 192.168.1.0/24 range. The server is 192.168.1.1
I added "192.168.1.1 www.server.com" to the /etc/hosts on the server and also on the other machines on the LAN. All the other machines can open website without any problem.
HOwever, the server itself only opens website if the address is localhost. Internal IP, i.e. 192.168.1.1. gets a time out and so does www.server.com.I do not understand why the record in etc/hosts doesn't point it in the right direction. It seems that when I open address 192.168.1.1 it still gets routed to the external network. I have seen using DNAT to deal with the problem but it didn't work in my case (maybe I didn't do it correctly). I have spent whole evening/night trying to sort it out, it's 4AM now, going to bed frustrated and angry (at myself hahaha). Still like linux very much, won't be going to windows anymore. Please help
I installed FC10, and configured everything to work with my static IP address [URL]. As far as email goes everything works except for the php script on my website. This script worked fine on my previous install, and it appears to actually submit the email as shown in the maillog:

And I was able to send successfully with this script with the only difference being it was sent by root rather than apache. This leads me to believe it's some sort of rights issue with the apache user. I wouldn't be surprised is SELinux was behind it all. I spent days and days after installing wordpress trying to get it to connect to mysql, and that turned out to be a SELinux issue.

View 99 Replies View RelatedI have a nagios server monitoring around a 1000 hosts in our office. To make things easier, i've integrated apache into Active Directory for the website authentication. This works perfectly, however the Nagios website uses alot of CGI scripts to display information I get the message below when trying to show CGI scripts with an AD user. Local users work fine. 403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi on this server. I tried adding the AD users to the cgi.conf file within Nagios (which works for local accounts) but it doesn't seem to work even with this change.

I have setup my router for a dynamic dns and forwarded all the ports through the router and the local firewall. I ran the apache setup through YAST2 and everything seems fine locally but when i attempt to access it elsewhere its not connecting. computechsolutions.dyndns.biz is the dynamic dns address i have setup through my router.

(I also added a zone in dns for that domain successfully) However, when I try opening that domain in my browser, I see a popup window which asks me what to do with "default" which is a php file type.
I dont see the index.php which should actually open. What do I do to make the php files display correctly?
