Ubuntu :: "system Does Not Support OpenGL" ?

Jul 13, 2011

I recently upgraded my ubuntu from 10.04 to 10.10 and then again to 11.04. After everything was said and done, one of my installed applications, FreeCAD would no longer load. A window would pop up saying that "this system does not support openGL" or something like that.

The thing that really bugs me is that it (referring to FreeCAD) worked perfectly when I had 10.04 installed and along the way I guess I broke it.

I have a toshiba satellite a505 s6005 laptop. The output of lspci in my terminal is:

Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor DRAM Controller (rev 02)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset HECI Controller (rev 06)

Debian :: Version Of OpenGL Does Radeon Driver Support?

Jun 4, 2011

I have the HD4850 and, I wanted to know if it is possible to use the CLI to see which version of OpenGL is the latest version I can use according to my driver. If it's not possible via the CLI then, what's the next best way? (I can't find a website for the radeon driver listing the latest OpenGL support per supported card).

Debian :: Compiling Wine 1.2.2 From Source Has No OpenGL / D3D Support

Feb 13, 2011

After finally figuring out how exactly how to compile something from source, I did it with Wine. However, there's a problem, when I'm trying to play a game on Steam (Half-Life) on a TNT2 graphics card (With NVIDIA drivers 71.86 installed as well as all of the packages needed to compile Wine from source), everything either lags or has an error.

One of these errors is that OpenGL32 isn't being initialized after attempting to start the game in that mode. Another error (or I should say problem) is that in Direct3D mode, it just.. crashes lol. Also, in Software mode, it LAGS horribly and I don't think it has to do with the hardware limitations I have on this machine. I did however install the glx and gl drivers AFTER I compiled Wine, do I have to do yet another install?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Radeon Driver Opengl Support ( Lack Of )?

Sep 20, 2010

I'm an owner of a ATI mobility radeon X1300 card. Since ATI tagged my card as legacy, i'm stuck with the open source radeon drivers. Wich doesn't bother me, as i know they are slower and openGL support doesn't equal fglrx. What does bother me is that the current version 7.9 dev. claims to have full opengl support up to 2.1. I'm trying to use a extention that is part of the openGL version 1.3 and it's failing. This is a known issue for a long time now and it really disappoints me. "Compressed textures" is what i'm talking about.

Is there any way to make sure that drivers aren't tagged with something they support if they obviously don't? I guess the KDE4 kwin vs drivers thing is the same as i'm trying to say now. Drivers should be documented with what they effectively support and not what they should support. What can I do to make this public to xorg developers? I could only think about posting this here as i have no idea where to put it elsewere. Could someone please point me in the right direction to where i should send this complaint?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Optimus Support Will OpenGL Still Work With Intel Gfx?

Mar 9, 2011

My understanding is that there is no Optimus support for Linux at this time. Will a default CentOS installation work fine with just the integrated graphics.in other words, will Optimus and the discrete graphics be ignored? Will OpenGL still work correctly with the Intel integrated graphics?I am considering an i5-based laptop with Optimus support, where I might go with a dual-boot configuration.

Fedora :: Wine/opengl/32 To 64 Bit - Cannot Load OpenGL When Try To Start WoW

Oct 19, 2009

I just upgraded from FC8 (32-bit) to FC11 (64-bit). In doing so, I backed up my entire World of Warcraft folder so I could try to avoid having to download and install it all over again. However, I've now reinstalled wine (64-bit now), and the nvidia drivers from the rpmfusion repos (also 64-bit), and when I try to start WoW, it says it cannot load OpenGL. I'm wondering if anyone knows what's up, and if there's a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling WoW.

Ubuntu :: Language Support System In English / Foreign Locale

May 3, 2010

I only want spellchecking, calendar and currency to be typical for Poland (this is where I currently live), Ubuntu itself (interface, applications, manuals) should be in English - I don't understand Polish well enough. In 9.10 I used to check Polish spellchecking (translations were checked for install automatically but you couldn't tell unless you chose another language and then Polish again) and uncheck the translations. It allowed for setting locale (calendar/currency) to Polish and also keep the spellchecking. Now it's buggy: I can do a fresh install of Ubuntu but can't set Polish spellchecking, calendar (it starts from Monday), currency (it's PLN/zł) and keep the system itself in English. What I do wrong?

1. Fresh install
2. System -> Administration -> Language Support
3. Language -> Install / Remove Languages
4. Find Polish and select ONLY: Spellchecking and writing aids
5. Text -> Display numbers, dates and currency amounts in: Polish

Confirm, reboot and... Bump! I've got Polish translations in several places, e.g.:If I upgrade any software, it is in Polish. Firefox (or Namoroka) locale changes to "pl,en" and its plug-ins are in Polish by default.
After I uninstall Polish translations (and leave spellchecking and writing aids as it was) there's a problem with locale (Polish locale is removed along with translations), besides, system doesn't actually change back to English and newly installed applications either crash with errors or install in Polish.

Fedora :: System Support NTFS Compression?

I haven't seen this addressed anywhere & quite frankly a "google" wasn't any help. So I pose the question here.
If I, under M$, turn on the NTFS compression, will that drive still work under LINUX?
My thought is that it won't as I haven't seen any control in LINUX for it.

Slackware :: Get Kmymoney Working With HBCI Support On Slackware64-13.37 System?

May 8, 2011

I am trying to get Kmymoney working with HBCI support on my Slackware64-13.37 system. My understanding is, that there are three dependencies for Kmymoney 4.5.3:

AqBanking 5.0.5
Gwenhyfwar 4.0.9
KMyMoney Plugin (kmm_kbanking) 1.0

I used to believe, that the plugin wasn't needed anymore in recent version of KMyMoney, but it seems, that I was wrong. With src2pkg I was able to compile AqBanking and Gwenhyfwar:

Code:

# src2pkg -e
'--with-openssl-includes=/usr/include
--with-openssl-libs=/usr/lib64
--with-qt4-includes=/usr/lib64/qt/include
--with-qt4-libs=/usr/lib64/qt/lib'

Then I used the SlackBuild script from SlackBuilds.org, modified the version to 4.5.3 and started it with ARCH=x86_64. Compilation ran through smooth, and I installed the package. However, HBCI support is disabled.
After some web research I came to the conclusion, that the KBanking module is still needed. So I grabbed it from the original source. Unfortunately I can't properly compile this one. Although I installed KDE3 and Qt3 compatibility packages from Slackware64-13.1 I get:

Code:

checking for Qt... configure:
error: Qt (>= Qt 3.2 and < 4.0)
(headers and libraries) not found.
check your installation!

Has anyone managed to get through the whole process and to activate HBCI support in KMyMoney?

OpenSUSE :: GParted File System Support / Running Programs As Root

Sep 27, 2010

I have GParted installed, running openSUSE 11.3 with GNOME. When running GParted, it always grayed out most file system actions, supporting only hfs fully. This made no sense, as I had all the required packages installed for other file system support. However, I recently figured out how to get it to work. Using the installed menu button doesn't work, running "gnomesu /usr/sbin/gparted" doesn't work; to get it to work, I have to open up a terminal, type "su -" to log in as root, and then run gparted. The menu button and gnomesu both prompt for a password, so it should be running as root, but launching it through the root terminal is the only way to actually get it to work. Is one root different from another?

General :: Why Doesn't TrueCrypt Support System Encryption On Non-Windows Machines

May 16, 2011

I would love to be able to use TrueCrypt consistently across all my machines, be they Windows or Linux. As it stands, I can do full-disk encryption with pre-boot authentication only on Windows.

I don't really understand why this is. Are there technical challenges specific to Linux/Mac that make full disk encryption harder? Does anyone know whether TrueCrypt will support this in the near future.

PS. yes, I'm aware that there are other options. My goal is to simplify my life here and use the one tool across all machines.

Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

Ubuntu :: Get OpenGL Running On 10.04 (64 Bit)?

Jun 30, 2011

New here so please go easy. I am trying to get OpenGL running on Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit). The hardware is a Dell box with a NVidia Quadro 600 graphics card; I am also running under VMware.

I tried using "apt-get install nvidia-current", followed by "nvidia-xconfig", which told me a new xorg.conf file had been written. I then rebooted. A dialog appeared saying Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode and that it had failed to load module "nvidia" and no drivers available.

As I didn't seem to get very far this way, I tried downloading the NVidia 64 bit linux driver version 275.09.07 and ran this from the console. Firstly it told me that I do not appear to have a NVidia GPU supported by this version of the driver (yet NVidia's description of the driver says it does support this gpu). I went ahead and let it try to build the kernel module but then it failed with the message "failed to load kernel module 'nvidia.ko" I'm not clear how to proceed on this one. Has anyone else got a Quadro 600 card to work? If so, how?
