I recently found how to ssh into my ubuntu system with my droid, but I can't seemed to do it the other way around, even if my droid is running off my wireless with the same ip (maybe that's the problem?).
View 1 RepliesI can sync my Motorola Droid using the USB cable without any problems but I don't always have the USB cable with me and I haven't been able to sync my Droid using bluetooth. My laptop can see the Droid and the Droid can see my computer but it says on my Droid "Paired but not connected". All I want to do is send files back and forth (tethering would be nice but I don't really need to be able to do that).
I can now (I'm really not sure why) send files from my laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 to my Droid but I can't send files from my Droid to my Laptop. Also when I try to "Browse file on device" I don't see any devices even when I select phone as device type.
I've tried what seems to be the best music software. Banshee and Amarok seem to be the most popular and I can't get either to sync. Banshee doesn't do it properly, it "syncs" but roughly 1/3 of the songs don't show up. I believe this to be due to the Amazonmp3 folder which I did move everything out of. Next I tried Amarok. I guess it's a bad case of user error because I can't even figure out how to sync it at all. All I know of right now is to manually create the m3u file in gedit. 11.4 btw and it's a droidX

My computer's a desktop, so I don't have anything fancy like a bluetooth (unless you recommend I buy a USB one for this). What is the best way to transfer apps to my droid?
I tried using USB, but for some reason neither Ubuntu nor my droid sees the other. It doesn't even charge when I connect it via USB.
Can anyone tell me how to rip a DVD so that it will play properly on a droid X?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an SSH server running on my netbook on port 2222 and a VNC server running on 5901. The router only has port 2222 open to the laptop.
I use Connectbot on the Droid to connect t my Ubuntu via 2222 with a local port forward enabled 5901 to 192.168.1.111 (laptop IP) port 5901.
Once the conenction is established, I use VNC viewer on the Droid and have it go to 127.0.0.1 port 5901 (to be forwarded by Connectbot over the SSH pipe).
I want to take it a step further. I want to administer my DGL-4500 router without having to remote control the laptop and open firefox. My router doesn't allow SSH.
An obvious solution (in my small mind) would be to install a simple web server process on say port 8080 and do a port forward on the phone to 8080. Then whenever that port is hit, I would want some process that would take the request and pop that person over to 192.168.1.1...
Any ideas on how I could do this OR a better idea on how to do it better without opening the router to the outside world?
I am theorizing I could do a VPN server instead and then find a VPN app. With a VPN, I am theorizing once again I owuld assume an IP address in my home network and then just type 192.168.1.1 on my phone and connect in that way?
I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. I wanted to setup my droid incredible as a modem to connect via the builtin broadband connection under network manager. I searched around and found couple of ways using wvdial as well as a tunneling app. The funny thing is, that I was able to setup my phone as a usbserial device and use it ONCE to connect successfully via the built-in broadband connection setup method. But ever since, it has not worked . Currently I am running a fresh install of 10.10, and have tried to insert usbserial module for my phone in the kernel, but it does not work. The command I used :

But whenever I run this and connect my phone with broadband connect enabled, it recognizes my phone however it uses a 'generic' driver according to the logs, and it never lets me enable Broadband Connection or connect successfully.
Linux for starters, have used this link to help set up the phones tethering using wired cable the computer is old with no wireless and it is integrated into the motherboard so dont flame about spending 20 bucks on a wireless card please. Now, we can start tunneling betwwen your computer and your phone. Change directory to the tools subdirectory of the extracted Android SDK directory. Issue the command ./adb forward tcp:8080 tcp:8080... everything went smooth until here ... there doesnt appear to be a filenamed ./adb so i cant move on and dont know where to go from here.
it is worth noting i am a noob to android sdk and i think i need to set somemore up to get it to work right you download a starter package and the rest you reach out and grab with the starter package although i dont know where tostart there either.

i use the hotspot feature to play warcraft and i am running ubuntu 10.10 ... i need to forward these ports ... any way to easily download an app to configure the phone like you would a router? its probably easy i just cant find it.
Sony Vaio X upgraded to 11.04 with 2.6.38-8-generic i686 which improved some features but which introduced a serious WiFi problem: while other WiFi works well, connecting via my Droid hotpsot fails consistently despite reboots of everything and renaming of SSID. Another laptop running 10.04 still works fine with the Droid hotspot. One hint: upon upgrading, there was the warning that the laptop hardware did not support Unity and I always get the classic Gnome display.The Droid hotspot shows up in the list of SSIDs but attempts to connect always fail, even when it is made totally unsecured.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Rhythmbox to manage my music collection. I have ripped my CDs into FLAC files. I'm using the Motorola Milestone (The Droid) as my music player and syncing it using Rhythmbox.
Now, when I transfer my music files from Rhythmbox to the Milestone, it automatically convert the FLAC files to MP3. But the conversion is set to 128Kps.
How do I change this default conversion rate? Or even, how do I change to another conversion format altogether?
I was trying to install the android sdk so I can write some apps and play around on a new droid phone i hope to get tomorrow. I had 64bit FC11 installed but the android stuff is only 32bit. I needed to install a bunch of the 32bit libs to get this to work. I installed FC11 64 bit. This cuased problems because the android stuff is 32bit. I couldn't get it to launch so I had to install the 32 bit libraries as well. A lot of the libraries could be removed but I think they will be helpful and useful in other stuff as well.
After installing these just follow the normal android install. I had another problem with the android install because the Ganymede Update Site was not checked so it wouldn't download the updates for the eclipse software. In the Software Updates and Addons window click Manage Sites, check Ganymede Update Site. I was trying to connect my android phone just to send some AT commands using Minicom or Seyon. But I was not able to connect it. I have connected my phone using a USB cable.Do I need to connect my phone through the serial cable by using a minicom connector to be able to send the commands to the phone.Also when I launch it says Initializing Modem...thenModem at /dev/ttyS0 is available. If I try to Dial it says Warning related to the Baud rate.But After that I am not able to do anything.

When I want to connect, I have to type the WPA2 passhrase in, I do that correctly and then the system tries to conenct. My problem is that I need to move a moderately complex system from an old system to a new system. The old system is a core 2 duo running on an asus p5k-se (p35 chipset) M/B, Nvidia 8500 gt, 3 x sata II hard disks, 1 x sata dvd, 1 x ide hd, 4GB ram. It runs opensuse 11.1 kde 4 as a desktop system + samba server, apache server, database server + other non-opensuse software. In addition some of the opensuse software is not the default 11.1 versions as later versions were required. The nvidia driver is from the nvidia repo. There are several file systems, some under LVM.
The new system will be a core5 760, asus p7p55d-e M/b (p55 chipset), nvidia 240, 3 x sata II HD, 1 x sata dvd, 4GB ram and possibly 1 x ide HD. This M/B also includes USB 3 & sata III. I have no USB 3 devices but this may eventually change. I have no plans for sata III and believe that it may be better to attach any sata III SSD to the sata II bus.
What I would like to do is to move the hard disks from old system to the new system. What I would like to know is, if the system is left at 11.1, is the system likely to work with the new hardware. If the answer is no, if the system was upgraded to 11.3, would the transfer of the hard disks then work? In order to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.3 using the DVD i believe I should get rid of all non-default repos. I assume that I should also get rid of anything that was installed from them, e.g. the nvidia driver and any software versions installed manually outside RPM. Also is there any default 11.1 software that should be removed either before or after the upgrade to 11.3
My system decided to crash on me, hard. It was humming along happily for about 2 months and now doesn't boot. If I boot from hard-disk, I get grub. Launching the first kernel choice hangs. I thought maybe the install was corrupt, so I booted from usb install disk. The usb hdd didn't boot; something about an error trying to access /dev/sda . Unplugging the internal disk and plugging in the usb install disk does result in the system booting. Plugging in the internal disk in a running system usb-booted system does not result in the system detecting the disk.
How do I know if the disk is physically broken? This seems unlikely since it does manage to launch grub consistently. Or is this still possible? How can I try to mount whatever is left? The usb install disk doesn't even list the /dev/sd*. Any pointers on how to reformat the drive if it's not being mounted?
I am an absolutely beginner with Linux (ubuntu). I got fed up with widows and decided it was time to go. I installed (clean install from a cd) ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. It is an hp compaq d220 MT.It looks good and feels good, well at least for a while since it keeps crashing. The screen starts to flicker, goes black, and the only way to get it up and running again is to press the on/off button until the system powers off and restart.

/dev/sda1 = 80 GB SSD drive, / partition.
/dev/sdb1 = 50 GB FAT32 partition of an external 500 GB USB hard disk.
/dev/sdb2 = remainder of the 500 GB USB hard disk encrypted using luks.
Screenshot: The /dev/sda1 figures don't really add up well, but they're close at least (how you get "50% Used" from any of those figures I don't know!).
However, for /dev/sdb2, they're miles off:
"Free" = 146.2 GiB
"Total" = 409.7 GiB
"Available" = 125.4 GiB
"Used" = 263.5 GiB

I'm niomi and I'm the first account with sudo. I add an account, bob. niomi can get in reliably on active mode. (maybe relevant?: passive doesn't work) bob is jailed to his home directory, niomi is in ftp-special which gives her access to /. bob can't log in and his shell is set to bin/false. I used to dual-boot, windows 7 and Ubuntu, but like a month ago, i decided to finally kill windows, so when i finished doing so, i had 160 GB. of free space. I never resized my ubuntu partition, since it had like 80 GB. of free space.Yesterday, I re-compiled my kernel, mainly to enable FrameBuffer in the console. So i decided it was time to resize my partition, to use the whole HDD.Turns out, that i had a little bit of problems compiling my kernel, and yes it took really a lot more than i thought ( I had to compile it twice ) but finally i got it working.
i still got some 100 GB. free, so is there anyway to get my system to it's normal weight?.I really don't wanna miss all my info, specially my programs, and customized desktop, it really took me a wile to set compiz just the way i like it.IM REALLY SORRY, I KNOW IT WAS MY FAULT, BUT I REALLY DON'T WANNA LOSE ALL THAT GB. I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a 2nd desktop system. I erased Win XP and Ubuntu is the only OS on this system. I have Win Vista Ultimate & Fedora 13 on my other desktop system. The cable modem and dlink wireless router is directly connected to the Fedora 13 machine. I want to connect the Ubuntu system to the Fedora 13 system.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently I've backupped my entire /home folder on my laptop with grsynch trough ssh.Since I already had a simply text file containing all installed programs, I figured 'then, when i go from the backup trough my desktop, all my program settings will be restored if i run the txt file to install all those programs first.So i installed al programs, then i went from backup to /home on desktop, logged out and back in. Started up a random program (tried thunderbird and filezilla) and no settings were to be found.In retrospect, docky did start, but didnt have all the launchers i had on my laptop. so that could have been a clue.
