Ubuntu :: Can't Sync Music On A Droid
May 24, 2011
I've tried what seems to be the best music software. Banshee and Amarok seem to be the most popular and I can't get either to sync. Banshee doesn't do it properly, it "syncs" but roughly 1/3 of the songs don't show up. I believe this to be due to the Amazonmp3 folder which I did move everything out of. Next I tried Amarok. I guess it's a bad case of user error because I can't even figure out how to sync it at all. All I know of right now is to manually create the m3u file in gedit. 11.4 btw and it's a droidX

I am thinking of using rsync to sync my Music folder to another folder called Music on an external USB drive. I will be using the Scheduled Tasks front end to schedule the syncs. What should the syntax look like when I put it in Scheduled tasks. I want this to be as simple as possible.

I just signed up for a 30 day trial of Ubuntu One mobile. I have music all over the place and thought that this would help me sync it on my phone. I shared my Music folder on my laptop, but all it was upload the file structure (not the music) to the server. How do I get Ubuntu Music to sync my existing collection?

I have a music archive on several computers, from time to time do I add, remove or change the archive on one computer. To keep this changes will I have to copy the new version of the music archive to all the other computers.
is there a program that can sync the music files. Let say that I update the info in one music file, then will the sync program notice the newer version and replace the old file with the new files on all the other computers.
I guess I would need a dedicated server for this where all changes are stored with some kind of version number of the music archive. Since not having a server would make everything (I guess) much more complicated. All computers would have to communicate with each other to check for a new version instead of only communicate with one computer (the server).

I want to sync music into my iPod and and put them in albums and have an artwork for every song. I tried rhythmbox but I don't know how to put the artwork on the songs. I tried Hipo iPod management tool and gtk iPod manager but it doesn't recognize the iPod. I also tried iTunes with wine but it doesn't recognize the iPod either. I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

I'm new to ubuntu and I was a little concerned the jump over would be a little complicated. I was happy to see that almost everything on my external hd worked perfectly and rhythmbox plays all of the music files I have. I attempted to add music to my ipod (8gb iTouch specifically). It seemed that none of the music would come up on the iPod, even though rhythmbox showed that the files were on there. After a little time (and if I did something other than wait, I'm unaware) the files popped up on my iPod. Later in the week, I tried to add more music, with similar problems. I've removed and added the files several times and allowed the iPod to fully sync, but they still won't come up. I don't understand why it would work sometimes and not other times.

I'm literally banging my head against my computer desk now, because i'm really frustrated about Banshee Or Rhythembox not putting all my songs onto the ipod. I have 930 songs, and they only put 303 songs onto the Ipod. I manually put them in, and still wont work. This is really upsetting. It used to work so perfectly in 10.04, but it's not workin in 10.10.

I have just got a new iPod Touch 4th generation, currently running iOS 4.1. I am having difficulty syncing it with Rhythmbox (or any application!), as it seems to go un-recognised! It currently is not jailbroken.
Is there any way to mount and sync music with this iPod? My old nano used to work just fine in Rhythmbox.

I am having a few problems concerning my mp3 player: (I thought a long time about posting this in the hardware section, but in the end it comes down to the fact that this is still an mp3 player - I know it's still piece of hardware - which indicates that's it is some sort of music device... doesn't matter)
1. The system somehow doesn't recognize it and doesn't handle it the way it handles external hard drives. However, the device is recognized by amarok. How do I change this circumstance or if this is normal, why?
2. How do I synchronize music to it, using Amarok?

I often listen to SiriusXM and find songs I like and will download them right to my iPhone. So, I also have an iPod which I use regularly in the gym and car and want to get those songs onto those devices. The issue I have is that gtkpod, or any other manager for that matter, can see the purchased song. I have to pull them off manually, rename and edit the ID3 tags. This is a royal pain in the rear. Anybody get around this? I'm at the point of wanting to write a Perl script to do this for me.

I have several devices (server, tower, notebook, android phone). I want to have my music library in sync on all of them. So what I thought of was a revision control system that just takes care of CRUD actions (or rather CRD). Maybe it could keep track of the files using their initial name and tracking any renaming or deletion. All popular software I know (git, svn, cvs, ...) is out of question because they save too much overhead (they diff the binary files).
Streaming doesn't work either for me because I don't always have an internet connection. Synchronizing the music using tools like unison is very inefficient too because I write metadata to the files so their hashsum, timestamp and size change constantly. If there is a diff or sync tool that ignores minor changes in size and ignores timestamp and permissions and so on, it would maybe be fine but I don't know one.

I've recently switched back to Ubuntu and I eventually had to sync my new ipod. I've been getting this problem where every time I sync with either GTKpod or Rhythmbox my ipod music is acting weird. It shows new music that I've added but when i choose to play it skips to the next track that then skips to the next track, and so forth. Its as if my ipod is filled with songs that don't even last 0.0 seconds! But the songs completely play in Rhythmbox, so I don't think its a problem with the files themselves.

I have recently bough a 2GB iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation. I have loaded music into it via rhythmbox, and I can listen to it in the computer. The problem is that, when I unplug the iPod it tells me to "Please use iTunes to sync music". The music IS IN the iPod, I don't know what's happening.

I've got Ubuntu One syncing a single 25MB folder on 4 computers. On one of these computers, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process constantly pegs the CPU, using from 50-80% long after any sync-able files have been modified and successfully synced. The process is only using 8.9MB of RAM.
Specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic
1000.8 MB RAM
Pentium 4 2.53GHz
Free disk space: 280.9 GB
System monitor shows 56.8% total RAM usage, 15.4% swap file usage.

Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner? What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic? No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio. So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place? No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.

I use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?

I can sync my Motorola Droid using the USB cable without any problems but I don't always have the USB cable with me and I haven't been able to sync my Droid using bluetooth. My laptop can see the Droid and the Droid can see my computer but it says on my Droid "Paired but not connected". All I want to do is send files back and forth (tethering would be nice but I don't really need to be able to do that).
I can now (I'm really not sure why) send files from my laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 to my Droid but I can't send files from my Droid to my Laptop. Also when I try to "Browse file on device" I don't see any devices even when I select phone as device type.

I'm new to android app development (but not to java) and I want to transfer apps I create on ubuntu to my HTC Incredible mobile phone. My computer's a desktop, so I don't have anything fancy like a bluetooth (unless you recommend I buy a USB one for this). What is the best way to transfer apps to my droid?
I tried using USB, but for some reason neither Ubuntu nor my droid sees the other. It doesn't even charge when I connect it via USB.

I have an SSH server running on my netbook on port 2222 and a VNC server running on 5901. The router only has port 2222 open to the laptop.
I use Connectbot on the Droid to connect t my Ubuntu via 2222 with a local port forward enabled 5901 to 192.168.1.111 (laptop IP) port 5901.
Once the conenction is established, I use VNC viewer on the Droid and have it go to 127.0.0.1 port 5901 (to be forwarded by Connectbot over the SSH pipe).
I want to take it a step further. I want to administer my DGL-4500 router without having to remote control the laptop and open firefox. My router doesn't allow SSH.
An obvious solution (in my small mind) would be to install a simple web server process on say port 8080 and do a port forward on the phone to 8080. Then whenever that port is hit, I would want some process that would take the request and pop that person over to 192.168.1.1...
Any ideas on how I could do this OR a better idea on how to do it better without opening the router to the outside world?
I am theorizing I could do a VPN server instead and then find a VPN app. With a VPN, I am theorizing once again I owuld assume an IP address in my home network and then just type 192.168.1.1 on my phone and connect in that way?

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. I wanted to setup my droid incredible as a modem to connect via the builtin broadband connection under network manager. I searched around and found couple of ways using wvdial as well as a tunneling app. The funny thing is, that I was able to setup my phone as a usbserial device and use it ONCE to connect successfully via the built-in broadband connection setup method. But ever since, it has not worked . Currently I am running a fresh install of 10.10, and have tried to insert usbserial module for my phone in the kernel, but it does not work. The command I used :
Code:
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x00b4 product=0x0ffb I have not made this change permanent though. But whenever I run this and connect my phone with broadband connect enabled, it recognizes my phone however it uses a 'generic' driver according to the logs, and it never lets me enable Broadband Connection or connect successfully.

Linux for starters, have used this link to help set up the phones tethering using wired cable the computer is old with no wireless and it is integrated into the motherboard so dont flame about spending 20 bucks on a wireless card please. Now, we can start tunneling betwwen your computer and your phone. Change directory to the tools subdirectory of the extracted Android SDK directory. Issue the command ./adb forward tcp:8080 tcp:8080... everything went smooth until here ... there doesnt appear to be a filenamed ./adb so i cant move on and dont know where to go from here.
it is worth noting i am a noob to android sdk and i think i need to set somemore up to get it to work right you download a starter package and the rest you reach out and grab with the starter package although i dont know where tostart there either.

World of Warcraft requires that TCP Ports 1119, 1120 and 3724 are forwarded. The Blizzard Downloader requires that TCP ports 3724, 1119, 4000, 6112, 6113 and 6114 are forwarded. It can also benefit from having ports 6881 through 6999 forwarded. The World of Warcraft Voice Chat feature uses UDP Port 3724.
i use the hotspot feature to play warcraft and i am running ubuntu 10.10 ... i need to forward these ports ... any way to easily download an app to configure the phone like you would a router? its probably easy i just cant find it.
