I'm looking for a means to automate filling out web-forms with data (names, addresses, etc...) from excel spreadsheets. I'm not sure how to do it with a macro, of if theres programs out there, or if a script could do the same work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are using several printers on our Linux RH network to print customer invoices and receipts. Receipts are short forms of just 21 or 22 lines. Two of the printers (an HP LJ1300 and a Dell 5200) eject the receipt paper automatically; the other two HP (a LJ 4200 and a LJ2420) do not eject. You have to press the green button on the printer. Is there a solution to that? They are all set up with the same PCL settings.

There doesn't seem to be any freeware on windows soo I'm going to re-instal ubuntu and I hope to find some software. Can anyone recommend a "security" software that'll record on motion (and preferably also email me when it gets triggered)? i tried zoneminder LONG ago and it never worked with that peticular webcam. The project itself also seems to be abandoned. I'd also love something that would work with a x10 device I just bought. A web server or remote control for it. I have an activehome pro usb.

The only problem is that there are many files (30 second to 5 minute clips) spread out across several directories. I was wondering if anyone knew of a tool that will recursively search the directories and batch convert all of the files? I'm open to anything including a good script for mencoder or ffmpeg.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm trying to add the binary NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.14-pkg1.run in my CentOS 5.4 ks.cfg file. The problem is that when you manually run the program it asks you questions and you have to respond with ok if you agree to their licensing terms. I want to be able to include this binary in my kickstart so when my machine boots up for the first time this driver is already installed and I don't have to waste time troubleshooting video issues. Is there anyway I can do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a very strange problem since I turned to kubuntu 10.4. Often, after some heavy working, my laptop works very slowly and suddenly when loading something, it locks and white lines turns all over the screen, just like curtains. Linux jumps out of KDE and logs in automatically. That's very anoying since all my work is lost and it turns back to the previously saved session.
Also, often when I boot, the load screen is also mmissed up with those white lines. The only thing I can do then is to reboot.
I tried to re-install kubuntu (in first instance, i upgraded in kpackage, then i re-installed with formatting the root en swap partitions).
I don't know how to solve it. Only thing that seems reasonable now is to downgrade, since i didn't have this problem on 9.10 (fyi: I have a dell inspiron 1501 with ATI Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemory video card, formerly i had problems to have good graphic drivers for it on previeous versions of kubuntu (some 3d games didn't work), maybe this has someting to do with it?)
I've got following problem: need to burn files which are spread through several directories, have names longer that 32 chars, and the chars like " " (space) nad other strange are allowed in the names of files. The file sizes are about 300 MB up to 1.5 GB (perhaps more). I want to burn .iso images (not on fly). I'm not using any graphical interface, so programs like k3b are not allowed.

I like the convenience of having a music player that manages the placement of my music files based on the tags of the files, sorting into a root music folder with Artist/Album/01 - Track Title.mp3 sort of hierarchy. Previously, I was using Banshee for this feature, as even most of the other gui music players don't have this library management feature. Now, I've been trying to use console-based applications, and I have been using mpd + ncmpcpp fairly successfully. When I download new music, it is downloaded to a specific folder, and that's not part of my music collection. My previous workflow would be to open a gui filemanager at the downloaded folder, and drag and drop those songs onto banshee, which would then make a copy of those files in my library hierarchy. Currently, I'm doing the same thing, using Banshee only as a sort of import program, then closing it and updating my mpd database, and there we go.
If at all possible, I'd like to automate this to something where I can define a watch folder, and when some magical program sees new music in said watch folder, it identifies the correct place for the files to be copied into my heirarchy, renaming folders and files to the correct format. I know I've written a lot describing, but I don't actually think this too uncommon a task, and I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.
I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 LTS via the command line interface. I installed onto Microsoft Virtual PC on the mac. The installation completed successfully. On first boot, I see the text is spread out very wide on the screen. It's like the screen has been zoomed out greatly.
I assume I have to modify the x11 configuration, but I forget how to do this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run Ubuntu 10.10 now and was surprised when I couldn't find Kivio which I use for simple charts for work. I now know that's it's no longer supported and so decided to try Dia as it's more of a native app' anyway, so here's the problem..The page setup dialog has a page size of A4 but it appears that this only relates to one of the (for want of a better term) cell sections on the sheet, I found this out after (stupidly) creating a diagram that spanned a few of these cells and being surprised when my printer started spitting out sheet after sheet of diagram bits!
So can someone help me out and tell me how to setup Dia up so that what I can see on screen is what I'll get when I print, If I try to stay in one cell section it looks daft to work on and is far too small as well.An explanation of what the actual thinking and benefit behind the current layout is would also be appreciated, I'm sure it's great for some people but I just want to do a few flow charts!
By fiat I must distribute my homedirs across multiple physical disks/partitions. Unfortunately this is not open to discussion so obvious solutions like a lvm home partition are not available to me. The issue: Users created with homedirs on the main home partition (the one created as home during the f13 install) behave as expected, but if I create them on a different partition (home9 for the sake of this example) the users are not able to login (dropped back to login screen), nor run x-apps if su -'d to in a konsole.
If I 'su - <user-on-home9>' in a konsole, I get delivered to the /home9/<user-on-home9> as expected, but x-apps fail with the error: 'cannot open display: :0'. This can be temporarily fixed with the command 'xhost +SI:localhost:<user-on-home9>', but I would rather fix it permanently at the source.
This appears to be an selinux problem from the following.The contexts of the the two rootdirs are the same
% ls -Zd /home /home9
drwxr-xr-x. root root system_u:object_r:home_root_t:s0 /home
drwxr-xr-x. root root system_u:object_r:home_root_t:s0 /home9
but when I create the users (using useradd or the gui) their respective contexts differ:
% ls -Zd /home/user5 /home9/user6

So, my questions for you selinux experts are 1) is it possible to have homedirs spread across multiple partitions with selinux, and if so, how, 2) Why, even when I manually set the dir/file contexts to match a properly functioning user5 from /home, do users from /home9 still not work (as far as login and x-apps).
I'm currently using Ubuntu Jaunty, and am considering upgrading to Karmic. Is there any advantage to backing up my data and clean-sheet installing a newer version, or is the upgrade path through the update manager sufficient? Would a clean install carry less baggage coding-wise?

Is that one recent enough, have the basic commands stayed the same? I know I tried tweaking grub 2 and was in a whole new world from the grub i tweaked a few years ago (I know were not talking the same thing from boot loader to os, but it seems there would have been slight changes at least since 2007).
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy F12 is connected to a Xerox DC432 printer on the network. The problem I'm facing is that banner sheet cannot be disable. The configuration setting on Administration->Printing showed that banner is off by default. "/etc/cups/printers.conf" file also have "JobSheets none none". I had the same problem with F11. Is there any step I'm missing? It doesn't seem to be problem of the printer itself because I could do this on a Windows OS.

Don't know where this should go, so I put it here for starters! I want to print documents on both sides of an A4 sheet, using a Brother HL-1230 printer. Is there a way of getting the odd numbered pages out first (then a pause?) and the even numbered pages after? To do this manually is tedious on a long (14 page) doc. Way back in the days of that other op. sys. I had a program (WordPerfect?) Whose printer driver would do this. Is there one for Ubuntu?

I have two different applications deployed in two different was7 servers in same Linux machine. Both the applications generate excel output stream which I open in IE. When I am trying the same application in Windows environment both are working fine, but in Linux I can open and download xls files in one application but not in other. I am using application/vnd-ms... as mime type and POI jars to generated excel, no errors in my debug log or system errors.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying enter a VLOOKUP formula in Sheet1, where the array is in Sheet2. For both the items, I have used mouse to enter cell references, which I always do.
1. Search criterion has been entered as a range, which is different from previous versions and not a very comfortable situation.
2. array reference completely missed entering Sheet2! in front of A1:C13. Only way out of this is manually entering the sheet name, which is not only cumbersome but also ludicrous. Moreover, we never had to do it like this in the past. I am using OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 in Ubuntu 10.10.
I'm looking for suggestions for a command line utility than can generate a contact sheet (e.g. jpg etc) from a video? I'm mainly interested in starting from FLV files, but i guess the solution will probably work for other formats with appropriate codecs etc. So, for example, if i have a 30 minute video, every 2 minutes through it i'd like it to generate a thumbnail and then put 15 of these in a 5 x 3 grid in a single jpg. On Windows,Media Player Classic Homecinem will do this through its ave Thumbnails command.
Ideally i'd like to do this from the command line/script in a debian server environment, rather than a desktop GUI. It doesn't have to be a single command, if a chain of steps could do it.
