I need a script that can undo a complete backed-up file system restructuring that took place after an upgrade to the latest version of SyncBackPro. Basically a windows machine running SyncBackPro runs a backup every morning to a SuSE 11.2 SFTP file server and after the monthly update of SyncBack I had some issues getting the existing profiles to run. Suffice it to say I did some tinkering and thought I reset the backup paths to their correct locale but the next day I found that the program took everything in the parent SFTP user directory on the SuSE server and did the backup in the main user directory.
Since the user directory is not the backup directory, SyncBackPro took all of the files in the normal user directories and moved them into versioned $SBV$ directories and inserted a unique 12-digit numerical value to the front of every file below ~/ in every directory (recursively). I found a program named krename to correct the renaming issue and it is still adding the ~3 million files to the rename structure (tests on smaller folders worked flawlessly) to correct the 100*********.'s that have been appended to the beginning of every file. My problem is that I need to take all files that have been moved into these $SBV$ directories and move them up one level to their original directory and then remove the $SBV$ directory after the move. I do have a little experience with bash/shell scripts as I have made and use them for extracting, timestamping and moving jobs that execute through TORQUE and G03 but fall far short of having a programming degree. Chemistry, now that's a different story...I have found another post which appears to move the files in a specified directory up one level but I need a solution that can search recursively for the $SBV$ folder and then move the files and delete the then empty $SBV$ folder. upload a file to a business partner of ours in another country. Currently they have an SFTP server set up for us that I am using to download a daily generated file from a previous requirement. I use a bash script to download it since its fairly simple.
Quote:
sftp username@address/filename_filedate.zip /home/user/filedirectory > /var/log/joblog
(removed private info) To satisfy the new requirement I have been trying to write something similar to this;
Quote:
sftp /home/user/filedirectory/filename_filedate.zip username@address:/remotedirectory/
sftps manual page only gives a hint about using a batchfile, however i still cannot get it to work. Does anyone know another way? Or if you can even suggest another method or application? It seems like a bit of a cop out you can EASILY download using the sftp command but can't upload.
EDIT - forgot to mention I have already got keyless entry set up using ssh keys.

I want to setup my logitech orbit as a "security webcam". There doesn't seem to be any freeware on windows soo I'm going to re-instal ubuntu and I hope to find some software. Can anyone recommend a "security" software that'll record on motion (and preferably also email me when it gets triggered)? i tried zoneminder LONG ago and it never worked with that peticular webcam. The project itself also seems to be abandoned. I'd also love something that would work with a x10 device I just bought. A web server or remote control for it. I have an activehome pro usb.

Im trying to add the binary NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.14-pkg1.run in my CentOS 5.4 ks.cfg file. The problem is that when you manually run the program it asks you questions and you have to respond with ok if you agree to their licensing terms. I want to be able to include this binary in my kickstart so when my machine boots up for the first time this driver is already installed and I don't have to waste time troubleshooting video issues. Is there anyway I can do this?

I like the convenience of having a music player that manages the placement of my music files based on the tags of the files, sorting into a root music folder with Artist/Album/01 - Track Title.mp3 sort of hierarchy. Previously, I was using Banshee for this feature, as even most of the other gui music players don't have this library management feature. Now, I've been trying to use console-based applications, and I have been using mpd + ncmpcpp fairly successfully. When I download new music, it is downloaded to a specific folder, and that's not part of my music collection. My previous workflow would be to open a gui filemanager at the downloaded folder, and drag and drop those songs onto banshee, which would then make a copy of those files in my library hierarchy. Currently, I'm doing the same thing, using Banshee only as a sort of import program, then closing it and updating my mpd database, and there we go.
If at all possible, I'd like to automate this to something where I can define a watch folder, and when some magical program sees new music in said watch folder, it identifies the correct place for the files to be copied into my heirarchy, renaming folders and files to the correct format. I know I've written a lot describing, but I don't actually think this too uncommon a task, and I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.

As a Windows user, I generated a pair of DSA keys from CoreFTP Lite and sent it to a third party that runs an SFTP server. They told me that a valid DSA key needs to have ssh-dsa at the start and the username@systemname at the end. CoreFTP generated neither the ssh-dsa header nor the username@systemname footer. I tried with WinSCP and it didn't generate them either. Is there a difference between how SFTP works between Windows and Linux? If I put a useraccount@systemname at the end of the text will it work? How would the Linux system validate that my system is called "systemname"? If it can't validate, what is the purpose of adding it?

We recently ported an application over from IRIX to Linux, specifically SUSE Enterprise 11 and gcc (glibc 2.9). On IRIX there was a library trace utility call 'par' that allowed me to execute a C program and trace all the library calls it made, tracking how much time was spent in each call. I have been trying to find something similar for SUSE. I have found the ?trace programs (strace, ltrace, and ktrace) none of which is default installed on SUSE 11.Does any one have a suggestion on which ?trace to install and use or is there something else out there better?

I bought this laptop several years ago. It had Vista. Just long enough for me to download SUSe, nuke and pave the HD and install Linux. Recently I upgraded from 1 GB to 4 GB of RAM, the maximum that is allowed given the motherboard (based on from what I am able to learn the Intel 945 chipset).
After upgrading to 4 GB, the machine (according to "My Computer") only sees 2.9 GB. I understand that under an earlier version of the BIOS that the machine would not recognize the RAM correctly. Additionally the "My Computer" page lists the display as "Intel 945GM". My problem is that I can find no Linux utility to flash the BIOS on this machine-- Toshiba only provides the BIOS included in an .exe file for either XP or Vista. I am hesitant to use the BIOS for the Intel 945 series motherboards from their site.

I am running memory test on SUSE, Memory test is just writing some patterns into a memory and reading it back in all CPU threads. After a while, when memory test is running in the background , I am trying to reset the system by echo b> /proc/sysrq-trigger command, Upon SUSE warm reset , I am seeing some UNCORRECTABLE MEMORY ERROR in model specific register (MSR : 0x421),
I am seeing this behavior on one of my server which has huge amount of memory.,Have you ever seen this UCECC error when SUSE generates warm reset when memory test in the background ?

I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.

I am new to Linux and wow, it did not take me long to run into a huge snag. I am running Suse Linux Enterprise 10 on a laptop and by some strange reason the computer froze from overheating and I was forced to shutdown improperly. Once I restarted it booted right to the command prompt when it usually instead boots to the default user. I managed to get gnome running using the "startx gnome" command. But when gnome loads, none of my normal extentions load like my wireless driver, the sound driver, etc. how to restore gnome to automatically load the default user on start up or fix any other damage I might have done? lol

how to install a D-Link Access Point on Suse 11.0 or steer me toward documentation that will do that? I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly. The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. The computer itself is going to be used as a small home storage server.

I've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition. However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
