View 3 RepliesDon't know where this should go, so I put it here for starters! I want to print documents on both sides of an A4 sheet, using a Brother HL-1230 printer. Is there a way of getting the odd numbered pages out first (then a pause?) and the even numbered pages after? To do this manually is tedious on a long (14 page) doc. Way back in the days of that other op. sys. I had a program (WordPerfect?) Whose printer driver would do this. Is there one for Ubuntu?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get a Brother HL-2040 printer working, without much success. I installed the brother-cups driver, but that didn't work. When I try to print, the printer just shoots out blank pages, and the only way I can stop it is by unplugging the printer. Worked OK on Ubuntu 10.10. I have gnome fallback, if that matters. There's a post saying that I need to download a ppd file, [URL] but when I try to get it, it opens a page instead of downloading a file. Also the information is from 2008, and I don't know how well that will work with all the changes that have been made to Ubuntu and the newer kernel. I got lucky! went to: [URL] and got the .deb files for the lpr driver and the cups driver. Had to use sudo dpkg -i in the terminal, as I couldn't get the software GUI to work. But it prints.

The problem is that when I print any page in Ubuntu, the printer does not print anything and eject the page blank. But Windows XP is printing finely.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI run Ubuntu 10.10 now and was surprised when I couldn't find Kivio which I use for simple charts for work. I now know that's it's no longer supported and so decided to try Dia as it's more of a native app' anyway, so here's the problem..The page setup dialog has a page size of A4 but it appears that this only relates to one of the (for want of a better term) cell sections on the sheet, I found this out after (stupidly) creating a diagram that spanned a few of these cells and being surprised when my printer started spitting out sheet after sheet of diagram bits!
So can someone help me out and tell me how to setup Dia up so that what I can see on screen is what I'll get when I print, If I try to stay in one cell section it looks daft to work on and is far too small as well.An explanation of what the actual thinking and benefit behind the current layout is would also be appreciated, I'm sure it's great for some people but I just want to do a few flow charts!
I'm currently using Ubuntu Jaunty, and am considering upgrading to Karmic. Is there any advantage to backing up my data and clean-sheet installing a newer version, or is the upgrade path through the update manager sufficient? Would a clean install carry less baggage coding-wise?

Is that one recent enough, have the basic commands stayed the same? I know I tried tweaking grub 2 and was in a whole new world from the grub i tweaked a few years ago (I know were not talking the same thing from boot loader to os, but it seems there would have been slight changes at least since 2007).

When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason. When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy F12 is connected to a Xerox DC432 printer on the network. The problem I'm facing is that banner sheet cannot be disable. The configuration setting on Administration->Printing showed that banner is off by default. "/etc/cups/printers.conf" file also have "JobSheets none none". I had the same problem with F11. Is there any step I'm missing? It doesn't seem to be problem of the printer itself because I could do this on a Windows OS.

I have two different applications deployed in two different was7 servers in same Linux machine. Both the applications generate excel output stream which I open in IE. When I am trying the same application in Windows environment both are working fine, but in Linux I can open and download xls files in one application but not in other. I am using application/vnd-ms... as mime type and POI jars to generated excel, no errors in my debug log or system errors.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying enter a VLOOKUP formula in Sheet1, where the array is in Sheet2. For both the items, I have used mouse to enter cell references, which I always do.
1. Search criterion has been entered as a range, which is different from previous versions and not a very comfortable situation.
2. array reference completely missed entering Sheet2! in front of A1:C13. Only way out of this is manually entering the sheet name, which is not only cumbersome but also ludicrous. Moreover, we never had to do it like this in the past. I am using OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 in Ubuntu 10.10.
I'm looking for suggestions for a command line utility than can generate a contact sheet (e.g. jpg etc) from a video? I'm mainly interested in starting from FLV files, but i guess the solution will probably work for other formats with appropriate codecs etc. So, for example, if i have a 30 minute video, every 2 minutes through it i'd like it to generate a thumbnail and then put 15 of these in a 5 x 3 grid in a single jpg. On Windows,Media Player Classic Homecinem will do this through its ave Thumbnails command.
Ideally i'd like to do this from the command line/script in a debian server environment, rather than a desktop GUI. It doesn't have to be a single command, if a chain of steps could do it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen i use my computer (whether it's going online, typing, playing a flash game, or coding) I get these "Black Flashes" that are becoming longer and more frequent. A "Black Flash" is when my computer screen turns blank (but you can still see the backlight) and i have to press the NUMpad ENTER button, shake my mouse furiously, or click my mouse, which sometimes causes undesired actions, but gets me my screen back. sometimes the Black Flashes last a milisecond or 5 seconds or i have to hold the power button and restart because it won't come back on.

Ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem with loading the Linux printer drivers for my new Lexmark printer. When I try to load up the printer driver downloaded from the Lexmark site I am asked to enter a root administrator password, but when I enter the password I used to setup the OS it will not accept it. I have reviewed the "sudo" terminal password info, but as I am a newbie I was concerned about wrecking the installation.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?
I want to add my printer to ubuntu 10.04. When I run the system-config-printer (System->Administration->Printing) I can't choose the "Add" in the menu bar (ctrl+n does not work either).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have managed to install ubuntu server and set it quite nicely to share my files and printers over my network. I have two printers, a Lexmark e232 and a hp C3180 multifunctional printer (i.e. printer+scaner+a copy function). I have no problem installing the Lexmark printer on my windows 7 computers on the network, however, the All in One printer only gets recognized as a printer but there is no way to get it to scan. I have been reading on the web about all in one printers but I don't quite understand what the issues are.
Is there a way for me to get the full functionality of this printer over the network? I think this wouldn't be a problem if there was some sort of software designed by hp that would allow me to add printers that are not directly connected to the computer (via usb) but are shared from another pc on the network.
I notice sometimes if the page has graphics it either is very slow to print or wont print.Will adding memory help? I was thinking of a 64mb module.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up a netbook for somebody (in another country!) and one of the last hurdles is the printer setup. I only have the netbook and not the printer with me. I know that the printer is a HP PSC 1215 All-In-One Printer but there seems to be a Catch-22 that I need to have the printer connected in order to be able to set this up using the GUI tools. How do I work around this? As a minimum I just want to enable printing, although scanning would be a bonus.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a parallel port printer connected using usb->parallel adapter. Sometimes the printer prints sometimes it doesn't.
A job will go the print queue and then sit there for ages. Sometimes if I unplug and then replug the usb->parallel cable the printer will print other times it will print half the document then freeze until the cable was unplugged and replugged again.
The printer never shows up in the list using lsusb (only my usb mouse and scanner do).
The printer is an hp deskjet 690c and worked fine under WinXP through a normal parallel cable. The one thing I haven't tested (but will test tomorrow) is the usb->parallel cable in XP.
