View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Open office 3.2 with Ubuntu 10.10. Trying to get it set up to print out the Christmas address labels. To register the data source its 'FILE'> 'WIZARDS' then' ADDRESS DATA SOURCE.' But OO doesn't show the 'ADDRESS DATA SOURCE' at the bottom of the list, so I am stuck. Apart from that, I have had no problems with ubuntu and its working well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am facing a severe problem on many Desktop PC's, whenever an employee is working in Gnome-Open-Office.org document (i.e. Wordprocessor, SpreadSheet, or any other Gnome-office application) and due to power outage after restarting, the previously open document either does not open or it shows a recovery dialogue after clicking on recovery button or clicking on cancel in either case document contain nothing (empty). The file size of the document is either 0kb or within few Kbs range.
Any one have any idea about it ? what to do ?? or any other alternative which is already tested in such environment (i.e. electricity failure )? or any options to be turned on/changed?
I copied a back up of my windows 'my documents' fold and all of its' sub folders into my linux (Mint Debian) Documents directory. I found that many of my files can be found in more that one directory so, what I want to do is to find all the dups and deal with them. Is there a good linux application to resolve this 'duplicates' problem. (I don't want to touch the linux system files.)

QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.
I have both installed, but since LO is going to be the way Ubuntu goes for office applications, can I easily have my system setup for native LO? Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? I looked for file associations and didn't find it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am not able to open excel file which is generated from java web application in Linux. The file is opening in Windows but not in Linux. I am not using Open Office. I have two different applications deployed in two different was7 servers in same Linux machine. Both the applications generate excel output stream which I open in IE. When I am trying the same application in Windows environment both are working fine, but in Linux I can open and download xls files in one application but not in other. I am using application/vnd-ms... as mime type and POI jars to generated excel, no errors in my debug log or system errors.

The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

I tried uninstalling it and installing open office and also in the soft center open office is more than once, but I tried the different versions and I still get the same problem.
Im an academic (university networks and security lecturer) studying/teaching network and operating system security, and inspired by the work of Hovav Shacham set about testing ASLR on linux. Principley I did this by performing a brute force buffer overflow attack on Fedora 10 and Ubuntu 9. I did this by writting a little concurrent server daemon which accidently on purpose didnt do bounds checking.
I then wrote a client to send it a malicious string brute forcing guessed addresses which caused a return-to-libc to the function usleep with a parameter of 16m causing a delay of 16 seconds as laid out in [URL] Once I hit the delay I new I had found the function and could calculate delta_mmap allowing me to create a standard chained ret-to-libc attack. All of that works fine. However .... To complete my understanding I am trying establish where I can find the standard base address for ubuntu 9 (and other distros) for the following, taken from Shacham:-

I'm having sporadic issues with the openoffice.org program. Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.

This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

Open Office works fine when I run the command "startx" in the Konsole but so far I haven't been able to configure it.
I cant open xls files in a shared folder using open office 3.1. Its all started when i install a new open office version. when im using open office 3.0.8 i can open all the files but now i cant even open it. Its always display untitled documents.

Haven't sorted out the printer as yet though. I am trying to locate the application for links onto the desktop. eg. View 9 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron E1405 - 160 GB drive with 2 partitions - I think only 1 partition was used for windows and ubuntu Used wubi to install 10.04 - both XPP and 10.04 worked fine after repairing the XP install My boyfriend used Referencer (.reflib) in Ubuntu 10.04 to organize and tag about 900 documents. He spent around 9 hours on the project and its VERY IMPORTANT. I am a dumb ***, forgot the project was on the computer and updated to 10.10 via update manager without it backing up. Now I cant boot to XPP or Ubuntu - "error: no such device:", "grub rescue" My main concern is getting the data back. I would rather uninstall WUBI and install Ubuntu on the 2nd partition (wish I would have done this in the first place but 10.04 was my first Ubuntu install and I didn't know any better). I have to get this data back! I have tried the following and cant locate the referencer (.reflib) file or the .docs and .jpgs booted to USB using my 10.10 netbook remix USB install USB stick - I can see the windows files pulled the HD out and connected it to my Ubuntu netbook, an XPH and W7 computers -cant locate data

I'm trying to replace an office file server. I would like to avoid just another samba share.
I'm looking for a document repository, a bit more functionality than a plain samba share and very cross-platform.
I've looked a couple minutes at dspace, but that seems like a lot of work just configuring it. Dropbox would be fine except that they only have up to 100g, and it's off-site.
This is NOT for unauthenticated public use.
Here are some features I have in mind:
1. Web front end.
2. Any file format from a one-line text document to a Microsoft Word document to an ISO of a blu-ray disk to a very large database backup, binary or text.
3. Cross-platform clients, mostly Mac.
4. Authenticated via centralized one-login server or maybe by a key such as an SSH public key.
5. Searchable by terms, name or content if the type is appropriate.
6. Pass in the URL for an object and have the server download it.
7. Stores files in native format so if the app breaks I can just get the files.
I'm setting up a static IP address & I need to know the mac address of my 2 unbuntu machines? [8.04 & 9.10].
