Mar 6, 2010I have written my own matlab script to output a cell array to csv format, but I am having problems when I try to view the file in openoffice. In my script, if the length of the string in the cell is longer than 30 characters long I put a linefeed into the fprintf. This all works great and the linefeed works in Open Office, however the width of the columns are still set to the width of the entire length of the string. For example, in my cell I will have several lines 30 chars long, say four lines or 120 chars, and the width of the cell that it is contained in matches the width of about 120 chars long rather than 30. This is a problem because it shows the text all left aligned in the cell, which looks great, but there are pages of white space to the right and the next column is off the screen. This seems obviously inconvenient.If the string is longer than 30 chars I output it in the following way:
" First 30 characters of the string the rest of the string and so on"
I feel like there should be a simple solution to this but I can't find it. Is this a problem with Open Office or my understanding of csv? Would excel have the same problem? How can I fix this?

Mar 28, 2011I just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).
QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?
FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

Native being if I double clock on a .doc file it will start up LO's Write program instead of OO.Will just removing OO achieve this or is there an easier way? Jan 12, 2011I am not able to open excel file which is generated from java web application in Linux. The file is opening in Windows but not in Linux. I am not using Open Office. I have two different applications deployed in two different was7 servers in same Linux machine. Both the applications generate excel output stream which I open in IE. When I am trying the same application in Windows environment both are working fine, but in Linux I can open and download xls files in one application but not in other. I am using application/vnd-ms... as mime type and POI jars to generated excel, no errors in my debug log or system errors.

The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

Sep 10, 2010Fedora 13, 64 bit. I have 9 cell Dell Studio 1555. However, it shows a battery time equivalent to 6 cell one. Works fine with Windows 7. Recebtly upgraded the BIOS as well.. No effect.

However, once I unpack the gzipped file, I get several deb packages from within the archive. OK, solved it; for anyone else having trouble, I completely removed ttf-mscorefonts-installer package then reinstalled it; upon reinstallation I got a EULA to accept and everything went as expected.
