So I was messing around trying to uninstall Nibbles and reinstall since I have an issue starting that game and something happened and removed the submenu under Games called "Logic", which had another whole list of games.
Is it possible to reinstall the games package or reinstall the update?I'm thinking more of the lines of a system restore or something so back 2 days from today.

I did a few things to the drivers and the wireless aspect of my ubuntu system and I'd like to know how would I reset everything back to as if it was a fresh install (but only regarding my wireless drivers and all that jazz)?
I'll have to purge it and then reinstall it over a wired network.

Sometimes they say "The only way to fix that car is to remove the radiator cap and drive a new car under it." Well I once had a home made machine running Red Hat 8 which died. I took the hard drive and the video card and plugged them into a new machine which had the same processor family to the dead one but that was it. Anaconda detected all of the hardware which had disappeared and uninstalled it. Then it installed all of the new hardware and after a reboot the machine was good to go. I sort of saved the radiator cap and put a new PC under it. Now I am about to do the opposite. My Dell Studio XPS with its nVidia GeForce 220 has never worked reliably with Ubuntu. I have several threads re. suspend/resume Not! So I ordered a cheap ATI Radeon card from Wally World [URL] and it is due in tomorrow. It might not fix the issue but it can't make it worse. So my plan is to:
- backup data (in addition to nightly backup job)
- snapshot sda (/) partition with g4l
- snapshot sdb (/home) partition with g4l
- deactivate nvidia-current driver
- power down, swap cards and power up
- look for smoke
I see a bunch of ATI and/or Radeon related packages in Synaptic - many of them already installed(?) so I am guessing that the video card should function to some degree without adding any proprietary drivers.

I was having issues with xscreensaver, desktop background and VLC all cutting out at same or different times and narrowed it down to "possibly" compiz or the FGLXR ATI driver that was recommended for my ATI HD3200 card. So, without knowing better, i went into hardware settings and removed the proprietary driver and did a reboot thinking the system would come back up and default back to a vanilla driver. No dice. Hello white screen of death! So, i am assuming that I can just reinstall via terminal and life will be good again? So, looking for CLI commands via terminal for reinstall.. (if possible)

I've been searching forums like for 2 days, but couldn't find any similar problem.
First of all im running Ubuntu 10.04 desktop version on my netbook Acer aspire one (AOD150)
Every time i turn off my netbook and after turn it on, in "Hardware drivers" it says that driver for wifi is not in use, also button for switching on/off wifi is not working.
So everytime i start up i have to go into "Hardware drivers", remove driver for wifi, and then activate it again. And everything is working gr8 after. Its just too annoying to do it everytime.

so i got myself in way over my head too soon with Ubuntu but i really like the OS.. I installed 10.10 on my HP laptop according to the directions on [URL]. Everything went well and I had no problems until I came across a thread about aircrack-ng.. I decided to test how vulnerable my own connection was after getting scared by looking up some how-to videos on ..... that made it look a little to easy. I was having a ton of problems with the injections tests and couldnt get it to work. I was trying to patch my ath5k driver according to some threads i found on this forum and couldn't get it to work. I finally found a thread somewhere about editing the base.c file to fix the driver. Well, being a noob i have no idea what i did but it wasn't good... yep, shake your head.. i deserve it haha.. anyway....
When i rebooted the comp after finishing the editing process it came up with all kinds of errors and brought me to a grub rescue prompt.. Yikes!! luckily i had Ubuntu 10.10 on a usb so i restarted, tried to delete the partition it was on with gparted and then tried to reinstall it.. The installation worked and now I can boot into windows again from the grub loader with no problems, but Ubuntu is all screwy.. Windows connects to the internet and doesn't seem to be phased in the slightest bit but ubuntu won't let me stay connected to any wireless networks and I also get a failed message when i try to activate the nvidia driver in Ubuntu.. Man, did i learn a lesson about getting ahead of myself and trying to bite off more than I can chew! I really love Ubuntu and the open source ideal so I don't want to let this sour me..
At the partition select prompt when I reinstalled ubuntu I selected "partition my drive manually" or something to that effect. Should I have installed it along side windows via the other option? I have a feeling my problem was compounded when i tried to erase the partition Ubuntu was on but now I'm totally lost and I really don't want to screw up my comp any more! I figured it's time to ask for help instead of shooting in the dark searching random threads for a similar experience which may not be similar at all.
Is there a way to repartition everything from windows without losing my data and reinstalling Ubuntu? I didn't have anything worth saving on Ubuntu but i have about 100gb worth of stuff on my windows partition i don't wanna lose! If I forgot to add any necessary information let me know and i'll be happy to provide any info I can.

I just installed Linux Mint 9 as a dual boot install with Win XP. Trying to activate wireless network card driver and video driver. Pops up: "You are not authorized to perform this action".How do I get authorized?
Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out. Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.

I am running 10.10 on a Samsung n130. Occasionally my wifi adapter locks up, everything looks like it is connected but I cannot connect to the web. I have worked out that removing and re-installing the windows driver brings it back to life (a restart also works). What I was wondering is could it be possible to create a script that would carry out the removal and installation of the driver with one click of a button.

I use Debian Stretch and I've installed it twice with the same ISO on the same laptop. First just to test a few things, then freshly installed it again.
The first time the wireless card was named wlan0 (as always for me, I've never had another name), the second time though it was suddenly named wlp3s0.
How did this occur and may I change it back to wlan0?

I use slackware 13.1-current on desktop with 4gb ram, nvidia geforce 210, and AMD cpu.
I have problem with my X starting using 40-50 MB of RAM and after some hours suddenly rises up to 400-500 MB. I have tried KDE ( with and without desktop effects ), LXDE, 3 different nvidia drivers ( the one made from the slackbuilds ) but no luck.
I decided at last to use the default slackware's driver. I uninstalled the nvidia driver and do startx, but it says code...
I have no idea about GPU and drivers, it was a mistake to install a driver for my nvidia just to have desktop effects. I just want to bring the things back as at the beginning of the systems installation and the default drivers.
Do you have any idea how to do it?

I have a newly installed CentOS 5.4 on Gigabyte G31M-ES2C, I had to change the motherboard since it has some problems. Unfortunately the new motherboard is a rev 2.x board, which has a different onboard NIC (old one is RTL 8102E, new one is AR8132), so now my ethernet connection doesn't work anymore (no eth0 device), I assume I need to install a new driver for the AR8132? If so, what's the steps to do so?lspci shows Ethernet controller as: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8132 / L1c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev c0)

RE: Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 64bit Updates from 2-3 days ago.
Since then, Firefox starts and runs fine the first time. Close it down and later try to restart, error says that Firefox is already using that profile and will need to quit it before proceeding.
System Monitor then shows that firefox and firefox-bin are still loaded (although nothing in the gnome app tray at bottom of screen). Jill those 2 processes and Firefox loads normally.
Should I wait this out and see if later updates cure this? Reinstall Firefox? Submit a report to launchpad?

Every time I attempted to run "yum update" dependencies failed to resolve citing kernel version problems. I cleaned out a bunch of old versions of kmod-wl that were still on my system (some dating back to my old f12 install) and still had no luck. Finally I removed kmod-wl altogether so that I could update the rest of my system and hoped I could just re-install it once the update was finished. No dice. "yum install kmod-wl" still produces this message (identical to what "yum update" gave when the old kmod-wl was installed):
Code:
Error: Package: kmod-wl-2.6.34.6-47.fc13.i686-5.60.48.36-1.fc13.14.i686 (rpmfusion-nonfree-updates)

In my company's production server, there are already mysql, php and httpd packages installed and running. Configurations are already made to the httpd.conf and my.cnf files.
Now I have to upgrade the packages to the latest version. I have to perform a yum update for the whole system first, then reinstall the packages right?
Will this affect the changes made to the configuration files? If yes, how do I upgrade so that the changes are not affected?

I run a Squid 3 server that is acting as a web filter. It worked fine on Etch. The system stopped working properly due to two of the three SATA cables being bad. Before I figured that out, I tried doing updates. Since Etch updates were no longer available, I did a distupgrade to Lenny. Immediately, Squid stopped working properly. It would take up to two and a half minutes for it to respond to a web request and add it to the access.log. This was using the same configuration file that it was using before the update.
After I found the hardware problem, I did a clean install of Lenny. I used the basic squid.conf like I did on the previous system, only changing it to add my ACLs and because it wasn't saving an access.log to the default location unless I uncommented the path directive. Now, it won't respond to a request at all. Forwarding is enabled and the firewall seems to be set up correctly.

I have a PC with the following specs:
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+
Nvidia GeForce 6600 video card
Realtek AC'97 Audio
1 GB DDR Memory
Creatix SAA7134 TV Card
OS Windows XP SP3
When I run the 64bit 9.10 Live CD everything works well in Ubuntu. However when I remove the Live CD and return to Windows I find a splat for a multimedia device. I have to reinstall the drivers for the Creatix SAA7134 TV card. I have to do this everytime I run the Live CD. This problem is putting me off dual booting between Windows and Ubuntu. I thought that the idea of the Live CD is that it has no effect on the installed OS. It appears thet Ubuntu does something to the card which Windows then has to recover from.
