Slackware :: Update Or Reinstall That Is The 13.0 To 13.1?

reinstalling has the advantage of installing software that was not included in 13.0

So I was messing around trying to uninstall Nibbles and reinstall since I have an issue starting that game and something happened and removed the submenu under Games called "Logic", which had another whole list of games.
Is it possible to reinstall the games package or reinstall the update?I'm thinking more of the lines of a system restore or something so back 2 days from today.
I have just reinstalled my fedora, because I messed up with the unsuccessful installation f the Beta Nvidia driver. The problem I am having is that when I try to update KDE to 4.3 (currently is 4.1) I get this
Code:
I understand I need KDE 4.2 at least, but can I exclude somehow this update, because I dont need marble anyway. Or at least how do I update first to 4,2 and then to 4.3.1.
I can't run the update-manager.When I run the Update Manager, it starts to check and then gets"A fatal error has been detected in the update-manager. Do you want to submit a bug report? Selecting No will close the application."What should I do now? Should I reinstall the update-manager? How do I do that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I attempted to run "yum update" dependencies failed to resolve citing kernel version problems. I cleaned out a bunch of old versions of kmod-wl that were still on my system (some dating back to my old f12 install) and still had no luck. Finally I removed kmod-wl altogether so that I could update the rest of my system and hoped I could just re-install it once the update was finished. No dice. "yum install kmod-wl" still produces this message (identical to what "yum update" gave when the old kmod-wl was installed):

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my company's production server, there are already mysql, php and httpd packages installed and running. Configurations are already made to the httpd.conf and my.cnf files.
Now I have to upgrade the packages to the latest version. I have to perform a yum update for the whole system first, then reinstall the packages right?
Will this affect the changes made to the configuration files? If yes, how do I upgrade so that the changes are not affected?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run a Squid 3 server that is acting as a web filter. It worked fine on Etch. The system stopped working properly due to two of the three SATA cables being bad. Before I figured that out, I tried doing updates. Since Etch updates were no longer available, I did a distupgrade to Lenny. Immediately, Squid stopped working properly. It would take up to two and a half minutes for it to respond to a web request and add it to the access.log. This was using the same configuration file that it was using before the update.
After I found the hardware problem, I did a clean install of Lenny. I used the basic squid.conf like I did on the previous system, only changing it to add my ACLs and because it wasn't saving an access.log to the default location unless I uncommented the path directive. Now, it won't respond to a request at all. Forwarding is enabled and the firewall seems to be set up correctly.
I'm on Slackware 13 and use XFCE (no KDE or QT) as my DE and Exaile as my music player. I try and install all my software using slackbuilds. Recently I came to know that Exaile 0.3.1.0 was out and so decided to upgrade from my current 0.3.0.1 . So I downloaded the source package and the slackbuild, and after changing the version number in the Slackbuild script, went ahead with the installation. The install went fine but exaile wont start up as the new version required a newer version of gtk+.
Since, I was not ready to invest my time in that, I uninstalled the newer version through pkgtool. I had the precompiled library left from my previous 0.3.0.1 install so, I installed it using installpkg. Now the problem is that when try to launch exaile, the splash screen shows up, but quickly disappears (this was also happening with the newer version, when it required newer gtk+). The error I am getting is:
Code:
bash-3.1$ exaile
INFO : Loading Exaile 0.3.0.1...
INFO : Loading settings...
INFO : Setting up deferred idle manager function...
INFO : Loading plugins...
INFO : Loading collection...
/usr/lib/exaile/xl/common.py:342: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6 self.message = message
/usr/lib/exaile/xl/common.py:345: DeprecationWarning: BaseException.message has been deprecated as of Python 2.6 return repr(self.message)
Also, when I logged in as the root, exaile would launch without any problems or glitches.
The hard drive that I used with Slackware64 has died, so it's time to reinstall and start from scratch.I have been using Slackware64 for over a year now and I enjoyed it...but now with a fresh start, I'm thinking about either going to Slackware64 -Current or going to the 32 bit version.Things I wanted in Slackware64, but couldn't get, were WINE, Skype and VirtualBox. I could have gotten those if I went "MultiLib" but I didn't want to do that, I wanted a pure 64 bit system. If you had to redo your system again, would you stick with your current O/S or would you change it up.

Since then, Firefox starts and runs fine the first time. Close it down and later try to restart, error says that Firefox is already using that profile and will need to quit it before proceeding.
System Monitor then shows that firefox and firefox-bin are still loaded (although nothing in the gnome app tray at bottom of screen). Jill those 2 processes and Firefox loads normally.
Should I wait this out and see if later updates cure this? Reinstall Firefox? Submit a report to launchpad?
I use slackware 13.1-current on desktop with 4gb ram, nvidia geforce 210, and AMD cpu.
I have problem with my X starting using 40-50 MB of RAM and after some hours suddenly rises up to 400-500 MB. I have tried KDE ( with and without desktop effects ), LXDE, 3 different nvidia drivers ( the one made from the slackbuilds ) but no luck.
I decided at last to use the default slackware's driver. I uninstalled the nvidia driver and do startx, but it says code...
I have no idea about GPU and drivers, it was a mistake to install a driver for my nvidia just to have desktop effects. I just want to bring the things back as at the beginning of the systems installation and the default drivers.
Do you have any idea how to do it?

After I upgrade my slackware to current(kernel 2.6.35.11),X could not start. My video card is ATI Radeon HD 4570.and I do reinstall fglrx like old ways :
Code:
./ati-driver-installer-11-2-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg
and
Code:
installpkg fglrx-*******.tgz
But after restart, X could not start, and Keyboard does not respond. Also ,when I try init 3 and remove xorg.conf,The X can start with a low resolution(1024X768).In console mode,I got a high resolution(1366X768). So,is there a confict between fglrx and new kernel or What have I done Wrong?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI currently have a VPS(virtual private server) that runs Slackware 12. The image was made way back in 2007, and obviously it hasn't been updated. The version is VERY minimal, it doesn't even have all the packages from A, but I can get any I want and install as I wish.Is there an easy way to update 12 to 12.2? Going to 13 is probably out of the question without a clean install over a network and doing it remotely, which is probably beyond my capabilities.I can't mess with the kernel unfortunately, but I can install practically any packages.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAt yesterday night i run a slackpkg update and then slackpkg upgrade-all. i deselect all kernel related entries, and all others ( dont remeber precisely, but approx 15 - 20 packages, i e kde related) i get to update.
After that i shut system down and going to sleep. today i start my eeepc 900 with slackware 13.0 after that update and see i cannot run "Terminal" link on desktop. ok, go to "start", "system", "konsole terminal". from first look in konsole window i see whatever not ok - window background is grey, not black as usual.
when i run mc in this window, look like a monitor contrast is set to minimum, and brightness to maximum - very hard to see files, etc. all is very much light and small contrast.
I check kde windows - all its ok, brightness and contrast in konkueror windows and overall is ok -as same as previously times. i switch to ctrl-alt-f6 to native console - again, all is ok - background is black, all is ok.
i e problem is only with Konsole-Terminal under KDE. looks for configfiles / etc - nothing faund. no man entry for terminal nur console.

I'm not sure how you do it, but it seems like you should be able to. How do you upgrade the version to 13 without burning a new CD? I just used slackpkg update, slackpkg upgrade-all, but when I tried install-new it had nothing to do.
