Long time lurker, first time posting. i've been using ubuntu for the last 2 years, since my vista went kapoft, mainly for browsing/word editing. Never had any problem until this morning.Any ideas? should i do a clean reinstall, like a good windows user, or maybe upgrade to 9.10 and hope this error go away, or even completely ignore this package and go on with my life?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to run Mac OSX Leopard + Ubuntu on my Macbook White 4,1. I've read multiple user guides, but for some reason it screwed up when I hit the partition button on rEFit. I received the 'gpsync' (sp?) error. I couldn't delete any of my partitions or make them go back to normal... As we speak I'm wiping my hard drive. I would really LOVE to start over FRESH. With Mac OSX, then to install Ubuntu. How can I go about installing Ubuntu on my Macbook without getting the sync error, and screwing up my partitions. Yes I read the user guide, and yes.. I did it step by step and still received the errors. I would love to fool around on Ubuntu, but the errors were stopping me.

I had a working ubuntu 10.10 system two days ago with kernel 2.6.35-24. I have a gtx 460 card so I have the driver from Jockey/Additional Drivers installed.
Two days ago update manager prompted me to install 2.6.35-25. I've never had problems updating kernels so I did. I Rebooted my machine and gdm/gnome no longer starts. I always get stuck on the tty1 screen. I did some troubleshooting and figured out that my current NVidia drivers seems to be messing it up. So I booted into my older kernel (2.6.35-24) and removed my NVidia driver.
I used these steps to switch from nvidia to nouveau:
NvidiaDriverSwitching
I can now boot into my latest kernel (2.6.35-25) but now I'm having problems trying to reinstall the nvidia drivers.
jockey sometimes doesn't list any available drivers. and when it does, it gives me an "System InstallArchive() error" when trying to install.
I tried installing nvidia-current via apt-get and I get these errors:
Code:

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

If I have a hard-disk with Ubuntu fully installed on it and I want to - all of a sudden - use Windows XP, is it mandatory that I firstly format the hard-disk first? So far, I have used two versions of Windows XP; one of them is from a few years before the other. Both copies of Windows XP when in start-up from booting from CD are causing errors. One of them is a BSOD error (0x0000007B) and the next Windows CD is stopping and giving me an error with setupdd.sys (error code 4). Is it required that the hard-disk is formatted before you even put a Windows boot CD in?

How to fix This? i haven't messed with Ubuntu much...Why am i getting an error about a kernel update?
On two Centos5 servers, yum gives a segmentation fault error when trying 'yum update' or 'yum check-update' after running 'yum clean' :
[Code]....
The error is the same for the other computer except while attempting to update the rpmforge repository. Nothing has really changed on the servers in some time and 'yum update' worked fine on each yesterday and I have no idea why they would both suddenly fail!
For the past few days, the automatic GUI update has been crashing, complaining of a "Transaction error."

everytime i try to install the updates from the update manager i get this error message:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, i have tried running the sudo dpkg --configure -a in the terminal but when it asks for the password the keyboard stops working so i cant type anything into the terminal. can anyone help me fix this? My other problem was when i try to run the Add/Remove Applications i can't ever install any of the software because it says its "waiting for other tasks" i'm not sure why its doing this either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been receiving 4.5 KiB/s to 7.0 KiB/s on average. This is with nothing connected actively using Wi-Fi (browser, download, etc.) Why is this? It is happening on Lucid x86. I have a 64bit machine, but unfortunately neither the 32bit or 64bit wireless works "out of the box" for me. My wireless card is Ralink RT3090PCIe. I have not found a package to support my card in Ubuntu 64bit (I prefer 64bit over 32bit.). For now there is this as a package for Ubuntu 32bit https://launchpad.net/~markus-tisoft/+archive/rt3090
Another thing, as of late (about a week) my wireless connection strength has diminished substantially was 95-97% now 73-85% This is unusual. Hopefully not any shady neighbors.
I am strongly considering deleting the Ubuntu partition, until a 64bit works "out of the box" for the wireless or at the very least only use this Ubuntu 32bit Lucid version with all network permantly disconnected. To be fair, I have tried quite a few other 64bit Linux distributions (Live CDs) and these others did not work wirelessly "out of the box" either.
I am by no means a Windows "fanboi".....but Windows 64bit does work for me "out of the box", as it should. So, I may have to go there (back to Win7), until I find a release of Ubuntu 64bit that has a wireless that works for me, without any errors/problems.
I've been trying to install the latest version of Emacs from source but I'm running into a trouble. The commands "./configure" and "make" work just fine. However, when I run "sudo checkinstall" I get a message saying that makeinfo is missing:
