My question is why you can't install 32bit programs on a 64bit system? If you can then how do I do it? 64bit should run 32bit due to the resin that a 16bit system ran 8bit games/programs. I know in window 7 you can install 32bit programs on 64bit system.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a rather odd problem on my Ubuntu 11.04 installation on a 32-bits Intel Core 2 Quad system. When I try to install packages that are not in the repositories, I keep getting the message " Wrong architecture 'i386' " in the Ubuntu Software Center. I have downloaded several packages for 32-bits systems and get the same error every time, for instance., with the Linux 32-bits Debian package for Teamviewer.
In addition to the PC, I have a laptop with an amd64, and I have transfered the pkglist from that machine to my PC to get the same environment. Could that cause any problems of the sort above?
I'm trying to setup, GimPhoto.

I am running ubuntu 10.04 on an amd 64bit laptop.Trying to run the deb file provided but is mentioned when opened in GDebi package manager that "Error: Wrong architecture 'i386'" which makes sense. There is not 64bit version. But provides the following instructions.

DEBIAN or UBUNTU users that prefer Debian Package (deb)
=================================================
1. Download GimPhoto 1.4.3 for Linux Debian Package (deb), from this locations: GimPhoto 1.4.3 Debian Package (deb)
2. Install it using Gdebi OR Double-click it from Nautilus. For user with 64 bits system that using Debian Package (DEB) follow instructions below
"I'm running GimPhoto on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.04 as of today. In order to get it to run, you have to use the force command from Terminal, like this:
sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i /media/gimphoto_1.4.3_i386.deb
The correct path/location is critical. I always download everything into a "media" folder. Keep this in mind for your own installation ... your path has to be 100% correct." When I open a terminal and cd to my downloads folders, and run the following.
sudo dpkg --force-architecture -i gimphoto_1.4.3_i386.deb
I get:

I was installing compiz on my machine and towards the end of installation i got an error saying:
dpkg:error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/udev-151-3-i386.deb
The program returned valude 1 or something towards that direction. I rebooted my X server however i got an error saying X server encountered a problem. I did apt-get install compiz and found out that many dependencies were missing so i tried apt-get -f install but i got the same error message at the end of the day. Im currently booted on windows XP.
When opening the Skype .deb with package installer, I get:Quote: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libqt4-dbus (>= 4.4.3) A quick repo search told me that it isn't in the repos.How can I install this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried installing skype through synaptic package manager, downloading from website through software centre and also manually using apt-get and dpkg. All I get is the same error - hash sum mismatch so file could not be retrieved. have tried the apt-get update and makes same error. not entirely certain what the --fix missing does or how to run it.

I was noticed the below error message when I was installing the SKYPE linux version downloaded from the official web site of SKYPE. Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.
[root@IT60 LinuxSoftware]# rpm -ivh skype*.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
qt4-x11 >= 4.2 is needed by skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586
Bump: The skype is running fine by the below link. [URL]. This version needn't those QT libraries again? It's strange. In before I was using the version called "skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm" that also downloaded from SKYPE official website. But it's not working as I mentioned above.
I've just bought a new laptop (Acer 3810T - which has a "Core 2 Solo Processor) - so I have installed Linux for the first time in my life.... Ubuntu 9.10-desktop-amd64.iso - so far so good, I'm very very impressed and the operating system seems to be working fine. I assume that I have chosen correctly the AMD64 version then.
Fastforward to Skype installation, and I download the version (skype-ubuntu-intrepid_2.1.0.81-1_amd64.deb) - which is the best match as far as I can tell from Skype's website. However when I come to install it, I get the follwoing error: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: lib32stdc++6 (>= 4.1.1-21)
I downloaded skype 2.2 .deb package on the skype website and tried to install it via sudo dpkg -i skype-debian_2.2.0.25-1_i386.deb and got the following errors:
[code]...
What does the error mean? I am guessing I have a faulty package. old skype can't be used due to segmentation fault error, so I am really hoping for the new upgrade to solve my skype problem.
I tried to install skype: apt-get install skype but I got the following error: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.1a _Squeeze_ - Official i386 DVD Binary-1 20110322-15:11]/pool/main/q/qt4-x11/libqtgui4_4.6.3-4_i386.deb Hash Sum mismatch
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I have a hard-disk with Ubuntu fully installed on it and I want to - all of a sudden - use Windows XP, is it mandatory that I firstly format the hard-disk first? So far, I have used two versions of Windows XP; one of them is from a few years before the other. Both copies of Windows XP when in start-up from booting from CD are causing errors. One of them is a BSOD error (0x0000007B) and the next Windows CD is stopping and giving me an error with setupdd.sys (error code 4). Is it required that the hard-disk is formatted before you even put a Windows boot CD in?

Trying to install draftsight on my 64 bit 10.10 system to give it a try. I do solid modeling work for a living (Inventor/Solidworks) and have to use Autocad. Ran across this program a month or so ago and really like it. Much less bloated that AC but does a nice job in the 2d world for a basic program. The package installer gives me a wrong architecture message (see attached). I think I had to change that to get adobe AIR installed and wonder if its possible to do the same here.
