I installed updates on ubuntu 10.04 and when i reboot i get an error that states some thing about low graphics mode.. ill post a better explanation later but it stops there i cant even move the mouse, or use the keyboard to hit ok.

I upgraded to ubuntu a few days ago and it didn't install properly but i managed to fix all the package errors. However the graphics drivers aren't working and i tried to fix it in recovery mode but its not helping at all. ubuntu is just starting up so it looks like a terminal.

Why is it that I kept getting error messages that basically were saying that could not connect to the Ubuntu servers to do download of updates to Ubuntu that is until I switched to the MAIN ubuntu server at which point it worked fine.I tried several of the Ubuntu servers other than the MAIN server and kept getting error messages. Is there some problem with those other servers ?

I've tried to activate the "ATI/AMD Proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" from the System>Administration>Additional drivers and it has an error halfway through the process.
I use an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5770 in my computer (if that helps), and Ubuntu is on my USB(8GB).
The error message I receive (after awhile of waiting) is :
SystemError: installArchives() failed
I ran the wubi installer for kubuntu on my computer running a Windows 7 64 bit OS. When I boot my computer up I can go with either windows or kubuntu. I boot up kubuntu and an image of the kde logo appears. Then the computer shows a garbled mix of multi-colored pixels in no distinguishable pattern, yet the mouse is visible and still movable.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter updating Ubuntu 10.04 I'm getting this error message. "Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode. Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module." I have a NVIDIA Geforce 220 video card and previously installed the NVIDIA drivers. All was working well until this last update. There are countless number of forum messages on how to fix this but my problem is compounded because when I get this message the machine appears to lock up.
It doesn't respond to any keyboard commands such as Ctrl-Alt-F1. I am not able to get to a command prompt at all. This was a fresh install of 10.04 so I believe it uses GRUB2 which automatically boots into the operating system with no menu. Is there a way to stop GRUB2 from automatically running the OS and giving me a menu? I really don't want to reinstall.
I have a dual boot xp -ubuntu - AGP ati 2600 series radeon. Intel 8300 dell. The message comes up after login "ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode". I hit ok and I get 5 choices and none of them work.
1) run ubuntu in low-graphics mode.
2) reconfigure graphics.
3) troubleshoot the error.
4) exit to console login.
5) restart X.

New to Ubuntu not to Unix. I am having issues with aptitude updates. Gives error unable to locate. When I look for the file manually I cannot find it either. It is looking for http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Translation-en_US. Is there a site that list all mirrors that carry the updates? I am running a mentor graphics tool which used java-jre. Every time I try to invoke the tool I get the following error message
From the error message I thought gcc_4.2.0 is not installed in my system. I went to synaptic package manager and installed gcc_4.2, but I still get this error.

I hadn't powered this one up in a long time and when I did, of course, the Update Manager informed me there were a LOT of updates (around 400 files) and of course I said OK.
It never quite completes, giving me an error message. Apparently two different packages are trying to over write each other's data.
The two packages that fail to update are
kdelib5-data and gnome-settings-daemon
and I really don't know what to do about it.
although isn't kde one desktop environment and gnome another? And Xfce yet a third?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not entirely new to Linux, but I'm far from a standard user. I decided to give it another try with Fedora on my new Asus G60JX laptop. Specs: Intel Core i5 430m, Nvidia GeForce GTX 360m, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
When I attempt to run the live CD from either a physical CD or a bootable flash drive, it loads as usual. However, once Fedora goes to the desktop, I get this screen:
As you may be able to tell, it's a garbled version of the Windows desktop I had previous to the reboot. Evidently, something in my hardware is not supported. However, I fail to see how I can install drivers when this is literally all I can coax the computer into doing.
I'm using openSUSE 11.4 KDE upgraded from 11.3. No nonstandard packages that I know of. I get this error messages on boot :

So I installed openSUSE 11.1, and got everything from yast2 and then finally got nvidia.ymp or whatever. Bascially, the one click install. When i did that, I couldn't boot into the SUSE GUI. I could boot into the command line but I couldn't start X server.When I did try the Ec2-openSUSE-2.62.27.9 option, I get grub error 13. It says that the ex2fs file system is not supported, only I did not format it with ext2. I am completely stumped and I'm a newbie.
