Ubuntu Installation :: Synaptic Error : Not All Changes And Updates Succeeded?
Jul 15, 2010
I installed 10.04 and did the upgrades. After that I installed a few programs. Now when I try to install or uninstall something from synaptic it gives me this error at the end:
Code:
E: packagekit-backend-apt: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
I'm clueless as how to fix this. Can someone help me understand?
After the upgrade on this AMD Athlon Barton 2500+ system, root device not found. The Grub install had failed; the new grub.cfg file was non-existent. In the Grub folder there was only a env file.Succeeded in installing Grub2, but without the cfg file it didn't help any, of course.
Very disappointed that the new Grub install didn't succeed and that there is no 'repair' for such an event on the Live CD of 10.04.1.Had done a few upgrades, from 7.04 to 7.10 and to 8.04 without problems.Very surprised and shocked that an upgrade from one LTS to the following LTS does not work 'out of the box'
E: wp-full: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 127I had tried to add wordperfect 8.1 from a legit debian file I had on an old Corel Linux CD. [Sorry but i would really like to have WP on my Ubuntu dist. (OpOff) just does not do it for me.] command used dpkg -i wp-full_8.1-nn_i386.debI used command line It partially installed, but required other legacy packages, these then failed completely when it tried to install incompatible font files. Ok . . so I try to back out, but when I try to remove the "wp-x-x-x" file it refused giving me the error above.
Ever time I try to use Update Manager or Synaptic Package Manager I get this Error Message:
I have been wondering if I just need to do a fresh install. Am currently using 9.10 on a Compaq laptop which is prone to overheating and "freezing", usually within 2 hours. Maybe time to install 10.04?
I am trying to install clamav from synaptic manager and returns this error: Quote: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/libclamav6_0.96.5+dfsg-1ubuntu1.10.10.1_i386.deb: el subproceso dpkg-deb -fsys-tarfile devolvi el cdigo de salida de error 2
Every time when I click on reload button in synaptic package manager I get these messages:
W: Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...ty/Release.gpg Could not resolve '1@192.168.0.4'
my internet connection has http proxy with address 192.168.0.4 and port no. 3128. every time when i click on reload button in synaptic package manager i get a lot of above messages. btw i am using ubuntu 9.04.
Ubuntu 11.04 was working fine and then when I went to open Synaptic, I got the following error: An error occurred
The following details are provided: E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/viewizard.com_linux_debian_en E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I get this error when I try to load Synaptic. In addition to that, the Ubuntu Software Center does not work when I try to search for and/or look at applications.
I just used a Brothers script to install driver for my new printer MFC-9840cdw and now Synaptic will not open at all, giving following error message:QUOTEE: The package mfc9840cdwlpr needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.END QUOTEWhat can I do to get Synaptic to work again, because I read it is the best way to install these drivers. I would like to uninstall the printer and start over using Synaptic.
I just installed Banshee 1.7, now I get this error when I check for updates. It doesn't look like it's affiliated with Banshee but I can't figure out what it's for.
Could not download all repository indexes: Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Today I opened upgrade manager and found some updates grayed out. I could not click them so I went to synaptic to try and install them and got this error:
Code: ffmpeg: Depends: libavcodec52 but it is not going to be installed or libavcodec-extra-52 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: libavdevice52 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed or libavdevice-extra-52 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libavfilter0 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed or libavfilter-extra-0 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libavformat52 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed or libavformat-extra-52 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libavutil49 but it is not going to be installed or libavutil-extra-49 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: libpostproc51 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed or libpostproc-extra-51 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libswscale0 (>=4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1.1) but 4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 is to be installed or libswscale-extra-0 but it is not going to be installed I am running ubuntu 10.04.
I've recently started using Ubuntu and love it! However, I was recently trying to do the ubuntu updates (equivolent to windows updates), and I got his with these errors:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you mush manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E:-cache->open()failed, please report
i'm a newbie to Fedora 12. While d/l the updates and installing I got this error. Where do I start?PS...I'm weening myself off MS so be gentle.

I try to use Ubuntu Software Center, Synaptic or apt-get to install a package, it seems to give an error(okay, USC stops the install and Synaptic crashes), apt-get gives the traceback
For some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
I have done some searching around and now know that the 64 bit version of Wine is useless. I tried to install the 32 bit version and apparently succeeded. The problem is that when I open Wine File the .wine-x86_64 folder reappears. I don't even know where the 32 bit folder is.
I have tried Code: yum erase *wine* but it does not seem to work. However this does.
I am beginning to start to work with compiling and I get some confusing output adding patches to sourcecode (xosview-1.8.3). (The patch is for suppressing warnings while running the make command : deprecated conversion from * char to ** char ) Xosview compiles without the patch. The patch itself contains 17 files to add mostly const char instead of char. It is one single file containing also files in one subdirectory. While running `patch < PATCHFILE.patch I had to copy'n'paste the filenames of the subdirectory to the terminal to keep it going. To get it going without much manual input I split it up for the two directories. I got the original patch and both splitted patches succeeding but with confusing output like :
patch unexpectedly ends in middle of line Hunk #2 succeeded at 78 with fuzz 1.
or just
patching file nfsmeter.h patch unexpectedly ends in middle of line # I splitted the original patch to every 17 files and this kind of output I get now at almost every patchfile. I downloaded patch source from debian and running `pfind` (Puppy-linux speciality .sh) for search text in files showed off patch.c
Quote: if (verbosity != SILENT) say ("Hunk #%d FAILED at %s. ", hunk, format_linenum (numbuf, newwhere)); } else { if (verbosity == VERBOSE [Code]........
As you can see the patch is working but what would I have to add to the patch? I added more newlines , added all lines to close a "{" if the patched line was inside ( also added "}" ), adjusted the path at the diff -uraNd /PATH/ -line, even deleted the diff line.
after initating the update and i enter my pass word, update stops and an error box comes up stating that it is unable to update because there is more than one synaptic manager running, i have restarted and get the same results, and to my knowledge there is nothing else running in the background.
From four days each time I reload Synaptic, I got the following error:
Code: W: Failed to fetch [URL]. Could not resolve 'repository.cairo-dock.org' W: Failed to fetch [URL]. Could not resolve 'repository.cairo-dock.org' W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I can not understand what is it. Is it a temporary network problem? What I have to do?
I'm not sure what other information to post.I believe I'm using the nvidia 190 file, but I've tried to remove 185 and that made me have to boot up in "low graphics mode."
I'm having problems with apt-get / aptitude / synaptic. When I run apt-get update or upgrade error i get following error message:
Reading package lists... Error! E: Unable to seek to 18446744071846088703 W: Unable to munmap E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
I've runned apt-get clean cmd, but it didn't help. Pc is pretty new with 8 GB ram etc. Synaptic and aptitude gives this error when you open those.
I try to connect to my server (whose IP is x.x.x.x below) from my laptop. I have no idea why openvpn client won't work this time. It works fine in win7 before. I re-installed openvpn but it doesn't work neither. Then I searched for this issue, find that it is possibly caused by disabled DHCP Client service. I checked, and found it was enabled. Still won't work after restarting dhcp client service.
Basic Info: OS: Windows 7 OpenVPN client: openvpn-2.2.0 DHCP Client Service started.
The following is the log during connecting:
