Fedora :: Software From Updates-testing Repo / Grabbed From Testing Repo When Run Regular Updates?

Jun 22, 2010

I am using Fedora 13 and I have one program (wine) that I need to start grabbing for the updates-testing repo instead of the default repositories in order to get newer versions. I think I can figure out how to add that repository, but I need to know if there are any others I need to disable or any other changes I need to make to my system so that I don't confuse my set up with conflicting updates.

Also, is there anything special I need to do to be sure that only that one program is grabbed from the testing repo when I run regular updates?

Fedora Installation :: Updates After Install And Repo Lists / Saying Repo Not Found?

Mar 26, 2011

i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.

ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83

1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?

2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.

3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.

4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.

OpenSUSE Network :: Error In Repo Initialization While Running Online Updates

Mar 18, 2011

Earlier I have no problems when I install opensuse. After installation the network runs and I can run online updating in yast for the system. But since a few version it doesn't work after installation and I don't know why. I think maybe the errors could happen because I have no
internet connection. Today I install 11.4 and get this message when I want to run online updates in yast.

There is an error in the repository initialization
'repo-update' [URL]
[repo-update URL]
Repository is not cached
I think this problem stars with 11.1 or 11.2.

Ubuntu :: Community Repo Updates / Canonical Does Not Provide Updates For Warsow?

Dec 20, 2010

I just learned that warsow 0.6 is out, and went to see if it was available in the ubuntu software center yet, as opposed to going and downloading and installing it manually from the warsow website. The ubuntu repo's still have version 0.5, and at the bottom of the page it says:

"Updates: Canonical does not provide updates for Warsow. Some updates may be provided by the Ubuntu community."

So if I wanted to 'update' this item in the repo's for the better of the community what would that entail?

It was not possible to authenticate some packages. This may be a transient network problem. You may want to try again later. See below for a list of unauthenticated packages.
initscripts
libavc1394-0
libtiff4
sysv-rc
sysvinit-utils

I've tried this a few times...same result over the past 10 days.

CentOS 5 :: Installing Grace Using Fedora 6 Extras Repo On 5

May 21, 2010

Since I need to install Grace on several lab workstations, I've been working on getting the mirrors.kernel.org fedora 6 extras repo to work. This is what I've done on one workstation: Added to /etc/yum.repos.d/fc6extras.repo:

[fc6-extras]
name = Fedora Extras - 6 - i386
baseurl = http://archive.kernel.org/fedora-archive/extras/6/i386/
enabled = 1

[code]....

then:

yum install grace --enablerepo=fc6-extras

After grace was installed with no errors, I ran:

yum update

Got this dependency problem and would like to know if there is a better solution to what I've done, especially with a hard coded baseurl in the repo file: gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.8-4.el5.rf.i386 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: libSoundTouch.so.0 is needed by package gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.8-4.el5.rf.i386 (installed)

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Updates Fail (Repo Not Available)

May 21, 2011

The repository [URL] is not currently (or no longer) valid. The path still exists up to the "Contrib" level, however, there are no files or subdirectories under it. There are also two siblings at the "Contrib" directory level ("Live" and "Update:") and there are no files under them either other than a single subdirectory called "Test" under "Update:". Does anyone know if the updates that used to be available in this repository have moved and, if so, where to? If the repository is no longer required and there is no replacement, I'll simply remove it. I have also noticed issues for several months where the updater applet will go into an "updating" state and never return from it.

OpenSUSE Install :: KR46 And Updates Repo Priorities?

Jun 20, 2011

Currently I have the latest stable KDE packages through two repositories:

Code:
KDE-KR46 | .../repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.4/
KDE-Extra-KR46 | .../repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_46_openSUSE_11.4/
The priorities are:
KR46: 75
Extra-KR46: 85

Now the issue is about the openSUSE 11.4 Updates repo (priority 99). It shows newer packages version than the KR46 repos for some packages, therefore I'm not sure if I have to push Updates repo up in priorities or just forget its update messages an keep the KDE repos as first source.

Ubuntu Installation :: Install Updates Returns To Main Window Without Installing Updates

For some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.

Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.

The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.

Fedora Servers :: Cannot Create Local 13 Repo: Pycurl Error 6?

Aug 16, 2010

I'm in the process of creating local repos for our company servers (CentOS 5.5) and laptops (Fedora 13). And while the CentOS part went perfect the Fedora part is causing major trouble.

But first things first, here's the setup: a central CentOS 5.5 server is running Apache2 and has a VirtualHost listening on Port 8080 for both CentOS and Fedora. The DocumentRoot for this VirtualHost is /data/repo wherein two directories, centos and fedora, reside.

This is the .repo-file for CentOS that works like a charm:

Quote:

[local]
name=CentOS-$releasever - local packages for $basearch
baseurl=url
enabled=1

After the CentOS repository was up and running I follwed the exact same steps and was expecting to find a Fedora repo up and running (I know, I know, silly me...). However, yum complains it cannot download the repomd.xml. The .repo-File is as follows:

Quote:

[local]
name=Fedora $releasever - $basearch
baseurl=http://icld:8080/fedora/$releasever/local/$basearch
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0
protect=1

Yum returns the following error message:

Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: local. Please verify its path and try again

The path is definitely correct - copying the url and pasting it into a webbrowser returns the correct repomd.xml file, so does pasting it to wget.

Any ideas? Does createrepo need any parameters in order to create a working Fedora repository?

Fedora :: After Installing Updates, F13 Goes To Garbled Screen After GRUB

After applying the latest round of updates last night, I turned on my laptop this AM (ATI X1300 Mobility graphics running the default drivers), selected the latest kernel in GRUB, and waited to log in....only problem is that instead of seeing a normal loading screen (Blue with Fedora icon filling in), I instead get a black screen mostly covered in multicolored rectangles. I don't believe there was a graphics driver update, so I'm rather confused as to what went wrong/how to procede. I can still boot using a previous kernel.

Fedora Hardware :: 14 Not Booting After Installing Latest Updates

Anyone any ideas? I think it might be ATI driver but not 100% sure since I didn't see any D/A related or Kernel updates wasn't upcoming...

Anyways I will figure out this sooner or later but this kind of updates sucks a bit that your system goes suddenly totally unuseable or system won't reboot, sooo , time to move on with an another distro or is Fedora just RedHat's playaground?

Fedora :: After Installing Updates Unable To Restart Computer

Apr 1, 2010

I recently updated my software (on Fedora 13) and after the updates had finished installing, it said that the computer required a restart. I noticed that I could no longer type anything into the search bar on Firefox without an error message appearing. So I thought it best to restart the computer then. When restarting, the loading screens took much longer than usual. The guitar pick shape that fills with white was stalling around the top. (I know, I love my complete comprehension of the problem too.) I pressed escape, and was given this message on a black screen.

Welcome to Fedora
Press 'I' to enter interactive startup.
starting udev:udevd-work[517]: '/sbin/modprobe-b pci: v000014E4d0000170Csv00001028sd000001F1bc02sc00i00' unexpected exit with status 0x0009
[OK]
[OK]
setting hostname (my computers name):

This is as far as I can get. I press Esc again, and I see the completed fedora logo, but nothing else happens. I press Esc again, and I come back to the previous screen, and this time there are two of the above messages. My computer is fairly old (four years), so I understand if the hard drive is deteriorating. I would like to have use of my computer back, but at the very least I would like to recover some files that I have not backed up.
