I'm using kubuntu karmic on my computer. I hv a prob. frm some days that when I run "sudo apt-get update" or "sudo aptitude update", then it downloads same packages every time of 10.5 mb. I also recreated my sources.list file but it has same prob. again..

In my case it found errors in the upgrading process, and also the bug rapport tools didn't work My 9.10 was only a few weeks old and I have done nothing unusual with the system. View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a problem while updating KDE from 4.1.2 to 4.2. In our college we can't download more than 20MB officially. So I'm unable to get kdegames which is 32MB from Konsole so I downlaoded it using proxy and I copied it into the /var/cache/yum/updates/packages/ folder and now using this command (yum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)').
I tried to update to KDE 4.2 using Konsole but it is showing:

I am using Ubantu9.04 and before few days I have tried installing amsn.It prompted to dependencies for following packages :
1. farsight2-0.0.17
2. gstreamer-0.10.27
After installing that I have lost sound,and the error was :
"The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plug-ins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured."
aplay -l
gives output - sound card not found
but lspci -v - list the sound card
I am running Ubuntu 10.04.2 and I've got a problem with the Clock 2.30.2 applet not updating the time.
The only way I can get this to work is after logging on, removing the applet from the panel & the adding it back again. Not really a satisfactory "fix".
I am trying to uninstall the packages that were installed as part of kubuntu desktop. I have gotten ~3 quarters of them, but didn't know if there was a better way than trying to pore over synaptic.

I can't figure out for the life of me why the time keeps changing. How can I set it to update it's time every day or two? I don't want to hit ntp.org every day, as is recommended. sudo apt-get upgrade to get updates for my packages. After installing I needed a reboot since I was on kernel 2.6.35-28. Post-reboot, I get stuck on a black screen with random artifacts after the purple screen after Grub, regardless of kernel (back to 2.6.35-22 is the oldest I have) with exception to the recovery mode options. Pressing the power button will shutdown the system in what seems to be the usual manner. The screen changes to the purple with ubuntu in the middle and the dot loading bar and shuts down.
I booted into recovery mode and opted to repair packages and rebooted but to no avail. I can get into a terminal by editing the boot options in Grub swapping out " quiet splash vt.handoff=7 " with "--verbose". Currently have a terminal on kernel 2.6.38-10 Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit. Win 7 partition also boots fine.This feels like a driver issue, but I'm not sure. Boot log (/var/log/boot.log) looks fine except for these lines:

The first 2 shouldn't be affecting my Ubuntu boot in this manner (other than failing to automatically mount my NTFS partition, which is a different problem), however the last one worries me. Doing some research on the termination status 4 of ureadahead-other I came across this page here, but am wary to just go around willy-nilly deleting things I don't know much about. It wouldn't be a great loss to simply blow the disk away and restart, but I'd rather salvage what's there if I can..
