View 6 RepliesI just installed Maverick 64-bit on my new Satellite AMD 4-core laptop. I've run into an issue with the fact that Brother does not have a 64-bit driver for my Multi-Function Laser printer. They recommend force installing the 32-bit driver. I have made sure that all the 32-bit library and all the folders exist per Brothers instructions. However, I'm confused on what command I need to type in the terminal window to actually do the install. Can someone recommend the proper command to force install the 32-bit driver? Or should I download the source code and compile? I don't know the proper method for compiling a 64-bit driver either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedPurchased a brother dcp-7030 laser printer after reading very positive web review/forum comments stating drivers were available from brother site. Unable to install cupswrapper driver successfully. Created /usr/share/cups/model directory as directed (and also a /usr/share/cups/dcp-7030 directory in case I hadn't quite understood the instructions) and then installed cupswrapper brother progs via synaptic. Cannot find a 7030 driver to install. Tried installing the driver from the brother site, but after downloading the .deb version and trying to install it, I get a wrong architecture msg. Checked and I have the 32 bit dependencies installed, which the brother site states are required.
View 7 Replies View RelatedDuring installation of Ubuntu 10.04, there was no driver found for my Brother MFC-665CW printer/scanner. However, I recently learned on the Forum that there is a printer driver available for the MFC-665CW through Synaptic that can be accessed by searching on printer name. I got it, and it works great. I've not been successful in locating a driver for the scanner part of the MFC-665CW. Does anyone know if there is a driver available on Synaptic that will work for the scanner on a MFC-665CW, and if so how to get to it (i.e., what to search on to locate it)?

I cannot find a driver for the Brother MFC-490CW printer anywhere. I tried using the CD that came with the printer itself but that doesnt have any PPD files on there... Apparently they deemed it unthinkable that a Linux user might want to use their equipment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFriend got a Brother HL-2130 Printer and couldn't add printer using Yast as the drivers are not found by Yast.
I went to Brother Solutions Center : Brother Driver for Linux Distributions and downloaded the drivers provided by Brother.
rpm -ivh *.rpm
and everything works well.
How could we prompt the developers to update openSUSE so that these working drivers can be added into Yast to benefit future users.
I would like to know if anybody using Squeeze has gotten the DCP-8065 driver from the Brother website to work. I am running x64 and have followed the directions precisely (ia32-libs, etc.) but still no dice. I have been using the ubuntu version (brother-cups-wrapper-laser & its dependencies) and that works fine. I just want to know if anybody has gotten this to work and what they did that may have been different from the directions given.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed lucid on a computer which had a working ethernet printer queue, to a Brother MFC-5490cn. I installed the drivers from the ubuntu package archive and set up two printer queues, one for "dnssd://<ip-address>" and the other "lpd://<ip-address>/BINARY_P1". The first appears to recognize that the printer color ink is low, so perhaps there is some communication, but nothing ever comes out of the printer. The second queue appears to fail completely.
I vaguely recall that for my previous installation I used the package supplied by Brother, but that it was very difficult, since the package no longer matched the Ubuntu file layout and locations.
I have a Brother MFC3360C printer that I would like to use. Has anyone had any success getting this printer working.? I've had it working on Fedora and Mandriva in the past but haven't been able to get it going on slackware. Printer setup recognizes it correctly but It's not in the list of available drivers for it and Brother only has 32 bit drivers for Deb and .rpm on their website, no 64bit.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Brother DL-5250DN laser network printer. I have read the manual at [URL] and also I have searched the forum but I didn't find a solution yet. The problem is that I don't know what is the printer type that I have to select. None of the description really match for this printer. It is a printer which is directly connected to the network and *not* to a Linux or Windows machine. The only type that matches is AppSocket/HP JetDirect. I tried to cinfigure it with CUPS but it doesn't work. After I type the password nothing happens.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 11 and am trying to install Brother HL-2170W Wireless laser printer. I installed it and used CPUS but cannot print. SELinux is enabled. On Brothers site there is an FAQ about SELinux and CUPS. [URL] I followed these instructions but still cannot print. Jobs get queued. Under Printer properties -> Policies, there is an Enabled checked. For some reason when I check this Enabled box and click Apply, the changes do not take effect. Then Enabled checkbox gets uncheck again.
I cannot even print a test page as its status shows Pending.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10. I have a Brother MFC 240C printer. I installed the print driver from here. Driver installed with no problem. When I print something, it goes through the print que to the the printer with no error messages, however the printer never prints the document. When I take the printer off line, Ubuntu senses it's offline and when I return the printer online Ubuntu knows it's back online. So I know Ubuntu is talking to the printer. It's just the print jobs never print. I am dual booting with Windows XP. The printer works fine when in XP.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using 9.10 on x86 architecture. I've searched the forums and anything related to scanning talks about editing /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules which doesn't seem to exist on my system. Judging from the dates most of these posts probably relate to intrepid or jaunty. XSane just says 'no devices available'. Printing works fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 9.10 on a Sony Z series laptop which is also dual booted with MS Vista. My Brother printer (which has wi-fi) has stopped printing with Ubuntu. The Brother does still print with Vista using the wireless connection.
I've tried deleting the network printer software and reinstalling it. The installation program will locate the Brother printer and it will appear to have been installed properly. When I try to do a test print using Ubuntu, the "document print status" window will indicate the print job is pending. However, it will stay pending indefinitely. I've used the printing troubleshooter guide and it has advised that:
- The queue 'Brother-HL-4070CDW' is not enabled. The reason given is: 'Unable to locate printer 'BRWCEB885'!'.
- To enable it, select the 'Enabled' checkbox in the 'Policies' tab for the printer in the printer administration tool. To start this tool, select System->Administration->Printing from the main menu.
When I go to the policies tab and check the 'Enabled' box and then try to apply this selection, the 'Enabled' box automatically unchecks and I get a print error message:
- Printer Error. There was problem sending document 'Test Page' (job 117) to the printer.
I seem to be caught in an endless loop without anything printing.
