I am attempting to load CentOS 5 on an Acer 6900 desktop and I'm not even getting out of the starting gate. I am familiar with using linux but not the install procedure which is why I am beginning to dive into this. However, when I bring the system up off the Linux boot disk and go to install it's not even giving me the option of the controller so I can begin installing the os from the dvd-rom. This is what acer lists as the controller for the 6900: ich8 serial ata storage controller 2820 linux driver. I cannot find this driver for linux anywhere.

I would like to know if anybody using Squeeze has gotten the DCP-8065 driver from the Brother website to work. I am running x64 and have followed the directions precisely (ia32-libs, etc.) but still no dice. I have been using the ubuntu version (brother-cups-wrapper-laser & its dependencies) and that works fine. I just want to know if anybody has gotten this to work and what they did that may have been different from the directions given.

I have bought a BrotherHL-1110 laser printer. But there is no driver on my system. I have downloaded source code but don't understand how to compile it. (
It does only exist driver-packages for 32 bits: hl1110cupswrapper-3.0.1-1.i386.deb and hl1110lpr-3.0.1-1.i386.deb)
My system is:
Release 7.8 (wheezy) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64
GNOME 3.4.2
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 245 Processor × 2
The source code contain the following files:
-> pwd
/home/joe/Desktop/BrotherHL-1110/hl1110cupswrapper-GPL_src-3.0.1-1
-> ls -R
.:
brcupsconfig Copying filter PPD
[Code] ....
How do I compile and install it on my computer ? ( Or get the printer working ? )

I've installed Debian Sqeeze (stable) without XServe since I want it to work as my home Music Server (mpd) and print server (CUPS) but there is no sound. "speaker-test" does not outputs any sound from the integrated speakers nor the headphone line. On the other hand, the integrated sound card is being detected without problems. Alsaconf has been removed from Sqeeze so I wonder how could I fix this problem. I've followed dozens of threads in this forum and others, applying possible solutions but none of them seems to work.Do you know if the Test version solves this issue?

I have Sun grid engine running on a cluster of 6 machines running Lenny. Since Lenny will soon be oldstable, I tested an upgrade of one of these machines to squeeze. Almost everything is looking good except the grid engine client. Does anyone know whether gridengine-exec (6.2u5) in squeeze is compatible with gridengine-master(6.2-4) from Lenny?
I've purged and reinstalled the grid engine packages on the updated box, but the gridengine-exec daemon seems to crash when it attempts to contact the server. qstat error: failed receiving gdi request response for mid=1 (got syncron message receive timeout error).

I'm trying to install Xorg manually in Squeeze on my IBM X30 Thinkpad with intel graphics (it works in Lenny). I used aptitude and installed "xorg" and "fluxbox", but when I restart my computer I get a blank screen, instead of the console login request that I was expecting. (Note: I did not install any login managers). So exactly what happens is that the screen goes black (just backlight on)during boot process. Once I'm at the black screen doing CTRL+ALT+Backspac, Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Alt+F[1-7] will not result in anything.
I tried booting with the single user mode, but same result, so the only way I could acess my log-files was by using a systemrescue-CD. What I find odd about this is that I cant find any configuration files at all. No xorg.conf anywhere in /etc, /etc/X11, nor in /home. I don't even have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d folder.Am I expected to write these by myself? And if Xorg is the source of my troubles, why is it starting by itself, without any installed login managers? Xorg not working is one thing, but not even being able to access the console, or log in to my computer makes it rather difficult to search for errors.

I've been enjoying wireless for a long time on Squeeze (iwl3945) with KDE, but the recent network manager update stopped that. I've tried a few things, like going back to /etc/network/interfaces and ifup wlan0 that I use with Lenny, but still not working.

I've installed squeeze and wheezy on an old Toshiba Satellite 210 CS laptop with 48MB RAM and a 20GB IDE harddrive.Grub2 won't boot at all and stops with a "error: cannot allocate real mode pages". The solution to that is to use the grub-legacy package. The boot then fails with "waiting for root device" and drops to an initramfs shell.

During installation of Ubuntu 10.04, there was no driver found for my Brother MFC-665CW printer/scanner. However, I recently learned on the Forum that there is a printer driver available for the MFC-665CW through Synaptic that can be accessed by searching on printer name. I got it, and it works great. I've not been successful in locating a driver for the scanner part of the MFC-665CW. Does anyone know if there is a driver available on Synaptic that will work for the scanner on a MFC-665CW, and if so how to get to it (i.e., what to search on to locate it)?

I just installed Maverick 64-bit on my new Satellite AMD 4-core laptop. I've run into an issue with the fact that Brother does not have a 64-bit driver for my Multi-Function Laser printer. They recommend force installing the 32-bit driver. I have made sure that all the 32-bit library and all the folders exist per Brothers instructions. However, I'm confused on what command I need to type in the terminal window to actually do the install. Can someone recommend the proper command to force install the 32-bit driver? Or should I download the source code and compile? I don't know the proper method for compiling a 64-bit driver either.

I cannot find a driver for the Brother MFC-490CW printer anywhere. I tried using the CD that came with the printer itself but that doesnt have any PPD files on there... Apparently they deemed it unthinkable that a Linux user might want to use their equipment.

Friend got a Brother HL-2130 Printer and couldn't add printer using Yast as the drivers are not found by Yast.
I went to Brother Solutions Center : Brother Driver for Linux Distributions and downloaded the drivers provided by Brother.
rpm -ivh *.rpm
and everything works well.
How could we prompt the developers to update openSUSE so that these working drivers can be added into Yast to benefit future users.

Purchased a brother dcp-7030 laser printer after reading very positive web review/forum comments stating drivers were available from brother site. Unable to install cupswrapper driver successfully. Created /usr/share/cups/model directory as directed (and also a /usr/share/cups/dcp-7030 directory in case I hadn't quite understood the instructions) and then installed cupswrapper brother progs via synaptic. Cannot find a 7030 driver to install. Tried installing the driver from the brother site, but after downloading the .deb version and trying to install it, I get a wrong architecture msg. Checked and I have the 32 bit dependencies installed, which the brother site states are required.

I am using debian Lenny and a Brother MFC-665CW printer. I am trying to print a PDF, but nothing happens. I'm not sure if I've ever printed in Lenny (recently upgraded from Etch). It worked fine in Etch. I "added" the printer again in KDE Print and it spat out a test page, but it does absolutely nothing if I send the document to print.

There is a problem with scanning on Brother multifunctional under Debian Squeeze/Sid. I get things smooth and good under root (both scanimage and xsane), but under user it gives
Code:
scanimage: open of device brother3:bus6;dev1 failed: Invalid argument Obviously as under root works fine, lsusb has no problems with detection.
Code:
Bus 005 Device 010: ID 04f9:01ea Brother Industries, Ltd
Already fixed /etc/fstab:
Code:
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto,devmode=0666 0 0
but it is useless anyway. I had already used the scanner under simple user in ubuntu and it all worked.

I've installed drivers for Brother HL-1030 printer (LPT port), according to instructions provided in this site,...
[URL]
Although the printer is ok (because it works in other OS like windows) when i try to print a document, the printer gets alive, shows that is receiving data with "data" led and i even see a progress bar showing how the data is being sent but, in the end, data led turns off and the printer does not even load the paper. This are the commands i've used for installing the driver:
ln -s /etc/init.d/cups /etc/init.d/lpd
mkdir /var/spool/lpd
mkdir /var/spool/lpd/HL1030
dpkg -i --force-all hl1030lpr-1.1.2-1.i386.deb
[code]....

I have a mfc-440cn installed and working in Debian wheezy 7.4 (the last one) but I cant fix to it for printing in grey, I was using the pdf default reader and send some pages to printing indicating not to print them in color just greys colors but doesn't respect that order, it prints full color. When I see the conf page for the printer it stills have the configuration I did indicating to print grey but it ignores it and print as it wants (full color). Note that I installed thr mfc according the instructions from the brother support page with no trouble but is just that it only wants to print full color.

I am trying to get the QL1060N to print and cut under Jessie.
I used the Ql1060N on wheezy (cups 1.5.3) with the standard Brother driver and the ptouch/foomatic driver of the QL550. They both worked out of the box.
Configuration for Brother QL1060N Driver:
Description:ql1060n
Location:
Driver:Brother QL-1060N CUPS v1.1 (grayscale, 2-sided printing)
Connection:socket://XXX:9100
[Code] ....
On Jessie (cups 1.7.5):
I first tried the standard Brother driver from here: [URL] ....It didn't work at all. When I print, Cups tells me that the job has been completed, even though nothing has been done. Sometimes I also got the error "job canceled, filter failed", but I can't reproduce this error...
The foomatic/ptouch driver for the QL550 prints like it did before, but doesn't cut the lables automatically like it used to in wheezy. (I'm using the same printing file/picture as in wheezy and also the same configuration.)
