I tried to install LibreOffice on the recommendation of my friend and it failed to install. Now I have neither LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I also cannot install OpenOffice from the Ubuntu software center. what can i do to have either one of these.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.
Code:
wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh
#!/bin/bash

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

I wanted to try LibreOffice out. I found a PPA for it, so I added the source, tried it out, didn't like it, and noticed that openoffice now won't work. Which isn't too big of a deal, but now I can't even get the software center to install it. It gives me some error that you can read in the screenshot. What can I do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to install OpenOffice 3.2 in Fedora 12? I currently have 3.1.1 installed, done as part of the install process plus yum updates since then. I've heard that 3.2 gives much better docx support. I just loaded a .docx file into my current version of OpenOffice, and it looked a bit munged.

I've tried to install openoffice, but I can't get it to run. Unlike installing a program in windows, it appears there is a lot more involved in getting a downloaded .tar/.bz2/whatever they are to load and become a program.
I've tried borrowing a book on Linux, but I'm lost with that too as it doesn't tell me how to add/remove programs let alone get them running in the first place.

Having some problems, which seems to be the norm for linux mint 9.
Background: I decided I wanted to try LibreOffice out so followed the instructions here: [URL] to install libreoffice.
After a week I found that LibreOffice doesn't actually have a spell checker or thesaurus even though it says it does. Decided I'd had enough so uninstalled it and auto removed the rest of its gumpf and attempted to install openoffice which actually worked, before. Problem is I can't, linux mint wont let me and keeps outputting random rubbish that makes no sense ie:
Code:
spud@spud ~ $ sudo apt-get install openoffice.org

I installed openoffice 3.2 but had insufficient diskspace at /opt. Thereafter I receive this message if I start the package/update manager.
"A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:The package ooobasis3.2-math needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.'"
Uninstall and reinstall (at a different location (/usr/opt) is not possible although there is enough space.
I've tried to search for how to install the dev builds of Chromium on Debian Squeeze, but the only information I find is on the google-chrome-unstable package. I tried to install the deb file with "dpkg -i google-chrome-unstable_i386.deb" but it told me there was an error and aborted. Is there any way to install the latest nightly builds of Chromium on Squeeze? On Ubuntu it was as easy as adding the lines:
deb-src [URL] karmic main

Add/Remove Software feature just by simply typing in openoffice.org.
I have tried this multiple times and can't seem to get it working.
I have also tried using the yum command through terminal
I have been using "yum localinstall" and recieve this error

When I try to install this extension in OpenOffice, I'm asked to read (and scroll through) the "Extension Software License Agreement" and accept it - but there are no buttons and no scroll bars. I tried clicking all over in case it was just invisible, but no luck.If I close the window, installation doesn't proceed.I'm on Mandriva 2009.0, but thinking of trying out Debian.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated from 11.1 to 11.2. Before some intelligent person says, I should never update but do a new install: a new install isn't better, then I have other problems to tackle. And I really would like updates to work.Well, I have the following problems and I hope you don't mind me listing them all in one post *it's difficult for me to type on this keyboard layout):1. home isn't found or set up. I have modified fstab to mount /dev/sda6, which is home, but it won't mount it at startup, and also not when it's just using the disk/by-id line that had been put in.
2. the keyboard layout is american, while the system language is set to German (I'm German and would like also my keyboard to know that). I had no chance to change that, even a loadkeys de-latin1 doesn't help3. OpenOffice drives me crazy. It just doesn't start properly, or at all. It doesn't open a number of documents, but it doesn't also give any error message. Sometimes soffice.bin is in the list of processes, but OOo is nowhere seen. After killing the process (or terminating it), I can start it, but have only the opening screen and cannot really open a document.4. printing doesn't seem to work, either.Needless to say that everything worked fine before the update
