" Package dependencies cannot be resolved: This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. " does anyone have a way of fixing this? edit: i've tried sudo apt-get install openoffice.org in terminal but it didn't work as well (i'm total noob)

I've built almost an entire KDE3 before, so I'm pretty sure it's doable, but what do I do different to point the installer at ~. If the answer is in the man page for make I couldn't see it.

OpenSUSE Install :: KDE3 Disappeared From Graphical Login Selection (OS11.0)?

Feb 21, 2010

I used KDE3 with 11.0 with some KDE4 apps till I needed some applications from the KDE4 factory tree and mistakenly left the repository active. Next time the online update also updated most of the applications I would rather keep, and as a result the KDE3 disappeared from the KDM login choices. So I have two questions:1. how to enable users to select KDE3 at login (currently I have to select failsafe mode and run startkde manually)2. how to replay back an update I didn't want to have?

Perhaps a combination of the above: can I upgrade to OS11.2 and keep KDE3? (please don't tell me to switch to KDE4, I acknowledge and appreciate the effort and the improvements that KDE4 got, but it's still not a replacement for KDE3 - there are so many simple things which are impossible in the new version)

OpenSUSE Install :: Install Kdebase 4.7 With No Additional Dependencies

Aug 29, 2011

I'm looking for a way to install kdebase 4.7 with no additional dependencies. My target is home desktop and I only want these : kdm, plasma, ark, dolphin, kdesu, konsole, okteta, kwrite, kate, kmix, ksnapshot. There are things I don't use but they get installed anyway and break kdm if removed. These things are : akonadi, strigi, nepomuk, virtuoso, kfind, kgreeter and a couple of others, including libqtzeitgeist0 and PIM in general. Also I don't want kdm 4.7 features hence I use kdm3 as a login manager. Is there a 4.7 build that doesn't mind the removal of so called base components? If not, is there a 4.4 repo for 11.4?

Ubuntu :: Any Way To Install Dependencies Using DPKG?

Jun 16, 2010

Is there any way to make this:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Also install dependencies for a deb file in the same way as GDebi does? Basically I have the above in a script, which I can right click in any folder and have it automatically install all debs in it. So much easier and quicker than using GDebi for each one. However, as of now, it doesn't seem to be installing dependencies, and causes broken packages.

Ubuntu :: Install Apt (and Its Dependencies) On ARM Target?

I am using Ubuntu to develop for an embedded ARM device that has a minimal linux kernel installation on it. I have cross-compiled individual programs before for the target system, but now I have entered the realm where I need to install a package on the ARM system.

I have done this easily using apt-get on a Beagleboard that had an Xubuntu installation, but I am now working with a minimal install that does not have apt. My question is, is there a simple way to install apt (and its dependencies) on my ARM target?

Ubuntu Installation :: Ktorrent Dependencies Broken - Cannot Install

Apr 16, 2011

I have Ktorrent installed via the repositories and its always worked perfectly. Today I ran software update with KPackageKit and it installed updates. It told me that KTorrent had to be removed to continue and without thinking I hit ok. Now my KTorrent is gone. When I try to install it on the terminal with

Code:

sudo apt-get install ktorrent

it gives me this error.

Code:

$ sudo apt-get install ktorrent
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

[code]...

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

ktorrent : Depends: ktorrent-data (= 4.0.3-0ubuntu1) but 4.0.5-3ubuntu1~maverick1~ppa1 is to be installed

E: Broken packages If I remove and reinstall ktorrent-data it doesn't help. build-dep doesn't help. autoremove and then trying to reinstall doesn't help. I'm not running some strange dev version of anything. I have a standard Kubuntu 10.10 amd64 installation and my KDE version is 4.6.2 from the regular repositories. I run updates (standard repositories) almost every day and have never seen anything like this before.

Software :: Install LYX Without The 700mb+ Of Dependencies?

Jun 20, 2010

I tried to install Lyx today, but because of the massive overhead I decided to install it without its 'recommended' packages. From previous experience some of these packages were just the same font in different sizes that rendered font selected in other word processing applications tiresome as I scrolled through the list.

Code:
apt-get install lyx --no-install-recommends

Only 8mb of disk space was needed! But at a cost.

Although AFAIK as a user that has only spent fives minutes at LYX ( 4 of which gawking at how easy it is to write mathematical symbols in ) the segment that does not work is the 'rendering' where I cannot export as dvi, pdf etc.

When I open a document, I get this error:

Quote:

The layout file requested by this document, article.layout is not usable. This is probably because a LaTeX class or style file required by it is not available. See the Customization documentation for more information. LyX will not be able to produce output.

What packages are absolutely necessary for LyX to work at a bare minimum? My monthly Internet usage is capped, and 700mb is a massive blow to it.

By the way, the documentation it recommends me to read ( 'Customisation' ) contains information applicable to creating new layouts and/or why I do not have someone else's layout that this document requires. It is obvious however that 'article.layout' is a standard component, and is probably inside on of the many recommended packages.

The download of recommended packages is ~ 400mb, but once extracted is ~700mb. That is still a large download for my internet connection currently.

Code:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
dvipng lacheck latex-beamer latex-xcolor libt1-5 lmodern luatex lyx pgf
preview-latex-style prosper ps2eps psutils texlive-base texlive-binaries
texlive-common texlive-doc-base texlive-extra-utils texlive-font-utils
