Ubuntu :: Install Plumi 3.0 Or 3.1, Video Sharing For Plone?

Oct 24, 2010

I'm trying to install Plumi 3.0 or 3.1 (the newest versions) on my already working Plone instance (version 3.x) and just can't get it working, basicaly my question is whether it is even possible to install the new plumi as an ADD-ON product on existing plone site or is it obligatory to run it as a standalone Plumi/Plone instance and if, what is the procedure on debian/ubuntu. I've really spent a lot of hours on many linux machines and just can't get to the working Plumi instance.

Debian Configuration :: Proxying Plone Behind The Apache?

Mar 3, 2011

I haven't used Plone in quite a while and am having problems getting Apache to serve it up now. I'm using the same configuration that I used for proxying Plone sites for a couple of years, but now that same configuration now gives me the following error in Apache's error log: [warn] proxy: No protocol handler was valid for the URL /. If you are using a DSO version of mod_proxy, make sure the proxy submodules are included in the configuration using LoadModule. Here's the proxy modules I'm loading for troubleshooting purposes for now.

apache2ctl -t -D DUMP_MODULES | grep proxy
Syntax OK
proxy_module (shared)
proxy_ajp_module (shared)

[code]....

I've Googled this extensively and it seems most people who ran into this problem hadn't loaded the proxy_http module after upgrading to Apache 2.2 from 2.0.

Edit: BTW, I'm using Plone 4.0.3 now. I was running Plone 2.5 before. I don't see why that would be a problem though as VHM's are now built into Zope.

Networking :: Network Video And Sound Card Sharing

Aug 27, 2010

Regardless of distribution, but not Windows, there would be this a/v computer that has a sound card and video card for which any other Linux computer would have access to these two devices. How do I achieve this mess?

I was primarily thinking of having a share on the a/v computer that would expose links to the sound card and video card for which the other computers could simply link to these devices. Does this sound kosher besides the conflict of concurrency?

OpenSUSE Install :: Ubuntu Sharing /home Partition?

Jun 2, 2010

I have two partitions where I can install (e.g. versions of openSUSE). I have a Swap and a /home partition to be shared by both. Thus e.g., while still running 10.3, I could install and test 11.2. Once I switched over to 11.2, I still can use 10.3 when need arises (not done for monthes now). I have the 10.3 partition mounted, thus I can stilll see what was in /etc/.... on the 10.3 system from the 11.2 system if need arises.

I gave the file systemss on those two partitiions different labels to better keep them apart. It is in the first place up to you to design how you want to partition your disk(s) to facilitate such a feature. Has someone done a thing like this (especially sharing /home partition) with openSUSE and Ubuntu? Is there a How-To anywhere? Until now I have the /home folder of Ubuntu not on a separate partition but under the system/root partition "/" of Ubuntu.

OpenSUSE Install :: Sharing Data Between System(s) And MS Windows XP?

Jun 2, 2010

Is there an actual How-To or something like it about sharing data between linux system(s) and MS Windows XP?I do not think there is a golden path but maybe a list of possibilities and their pros and contras would be fine. As I understood there are different ways of sharing data (and so of setting the partitions)

1. Accessing the data of a MS Windows (NTFS) partition from a linux system (contra: possible data loss/data corruption?).

2. Accessing the data of a linux (ext3) partition form a Microsoft system (XP) (contra: possible data loss/data corruption?).

3. Sharing a data partition (FAT ?) (contra: problems with large files).

4. Visualization (contra1: If the main system gets broken, the guest is broken, too?; contra2: not so easy?; contra3: windows male ware in linux?).

I am thinking about reorganizing my hole system of sharing data and of partitions (including my NTFS partition for XP data and FAT partition for data shared with XP and linux). Now I am using mostly a FAT partition for sharing data but this seems to me not the way (for big files and especially because of data security).

I thought of making my /home partition bigger and use a windows program to get excess to ext3/ext4 from MS XP. I also thought of deleting my hole NTFS data partition and use only /home with document-folders etc. for each user / for the linux users and for the Mircosoft users. But this seems not so wise jet from I have read (at least not with an ext4 data partition):

[all variants] ext4 support on Windows XP - Ubuntu Forums
Ext2read - View ext2/3/4 partitions from Windows

Red Hat :: Folder & File Sharing - Vender Is Not Allowing Me To Install Any Hardware Other Than IBM Parts

Nov 24, 2010

2. I have another P4 system on which Fedora Core 11 (SERVER Y) is running. I had connected 300GB SCSI HDD and created necessary partitions.

Now I want to mount few of the volumes of SERVER Y on SERVER X and allow users (samba clients) to access the volumes as folders as any other volumes in SERVER X through samba. I mounted one volume of SERVER Y in SERVER X using NFS mounting and shared through samba. The problem, I am facing, is it is very slow.

Ubuntu :: Minimal 10.10 Install - Can't Install The ATi Video Card Drivers

Oct 15, 2010

I just installed a minimal version of Ubuntu 10.10 (with Openbox) over 10.04. Mainly everything's ok, but I have three problems:

1. When shutting down or rebooting, my speakers make a loud pop. Upon googling around, I found this topic on the Arch forums. Running

Code:

Before rebooting/shutting down works. I, however, would like to have this permanently fixed so I don't have to run these commands every time before rebooting/shutting down.

2. I can't install the ATi video card drivers. I downloaded the correct driver (10.9) from the ATi website and made sure I had the packages found here installed. I also made it executable by running

Code:

When I run the installer, using

Code:

I get this output:

Code:

3. When booting, I get a message saying something like "intel_ips can't find i915 symbols, so graphics turbo is disabled". When googling for this, I see this is a kernel related issue. Since I don't have any understandings of kernels, I thought this is a little too high up for me. What does it mean and how can I fix it, as it slows my boot down quite a bit?

Ubuntu :: No More Video After Driver Install

Apr 26, 2010

I have an older Dell Latitude (with an atitude). I noticed that scrolling down web pages and such has been painfully slow. I didn't have that problem with Windows installed and so it just goes to reason that the video driver is not right. I selected "display driver update" (or something like that) from one of the menus. It saw that I needed an update to the nVidia driver. I authenticated the request and it downloaded and supposedly installed the update. Now I have no video. I get the splash screen and the start-up scripts but then after it loads, it goes black.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer with Linux because I've primarily been an operator with it for years. I never had any admin privileges until I finally decided to install it on my home systems. That being said, what do I need to do to get this to work?

Ubuntu :: Install The NVidia Video Drivers?

May 1, 2011

I just installed 11.04 and I knew I would have to install the NVidia video drivers. So it was no surprise when it popped up a warning and dropped me into Gnome Classic view. So I turned on the NVidia drivers and rebooted. In my desktop selection menu on the login screen I have "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu Classic".

Unfortunately they look exactly alike, with the Gnome panel along the top, and the panel with the taskbar, desktops and recylce bin on the bottom. I've gone back-and-forth a few times and nothing has changed. Some changes in one environment is not set in the other, like they really are 2 different environments.

According to the Software Center, Unity (not Unity 2D) *is* installed. So how can I boot into the Unity desktop?

Software :: Can't Install ATI Video Drivers In Ubuntu 9.10

Jan 23, 2010

Problem: Can't install proprietary ATI drivers. Open source drivers don't work.

System: Ubuntu 9.10 x64bit, using an ATI 1900 XT

I followed this guide to install the drivers: [URL]

Open source method: Made no impact. Videos lag, displays have the wrong resolution and I can't change it.

Proprietary drivers:

I downloaded the latest ATI drivers but ran into an issue with DKMS when trying to install them:

Quote:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Install Proprietary Video Driver

Jan 23, 2010

I'm running a slightly upgraded Dell Inspiron B120 with 2 Gig RAM, 200 Gig HD. I recently switched this laptop from XP to Ubuntu 9.10. After many a long hour, I was able to get World of Warcraft running under wine but its slow to the point of being unplayable. I was used to slow gameplay on this laptop under XP, but 0 fps is a new low. Dalaran (the notoriously laggiest place in the game) is a joke. There's a 5-10 sec lag between hitting the button to move and actually going anywhere. I took all the video settings down to the minimum and did a regedit to add a key for wine.

Basically I tried all the tips and tricks I could find (including creating an xorg.conf file since I didn't have one). Nothing I did worked. I can be in the most remote, unpopulated spot in the game and I can't get more than 3fps. Somewhere I read that I should install a proprietary driver for my video card (intel GMA 900). So I went out and downloaded xf86-video-intel-2.10.0 and ran the configure script that came with it. It came back and said

Code:
No package 'xorg-server' found
No package 'xproto' found
No package 'fontsproto' found
so I went out and found Xorg-Server-1.7.1 and ran its configure script which gave me

Code:
No package 'x11' found
I tried setting $PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /etc/X11/ with no joy.

Now I am new to linux but in poking around the file system I did see /etc/X11/ which had some stuff in it. To me that says that I've got X11 installed but then again I've been using linux since breakfast so what do I know? What do I need to do to install a proprietary video driver -OR- what can I do to get the game running well enough to be playable (short of walking over to my windows desktop computer)?

Ubuntu Installation :: Wrong Video Mode After 1st Install

Jun 16, 2010

I just received a band new DELL laptop with a blank disk and installed Kubuntu Lucid Alternate 64 on it. No problem during install (the only option I specified was for an encrypted LVM), but when I try to boot all I can see are colored lines scrolling/blinking on the screen. If I press any key it changes to white text (unreadable) scrolling/blinking.

If I press a key during the boot and get into grub, I cannot edit the boot options, cannot go to command line, cannot use MemTest86 (maybe because the partition is encrypted). Booting with the recovery mode shows the same lines. Edit: if I try to boot with the standard LiveCD, I get the same mess, so it's abviously a video card problem. Damn, I had checked beforehand that Ubuntu could run smoothly on it.
