does it not accept ftp passwords.. what ftp server program (with autostart so it works with crossover linux as i know no other way start apps with that. can try to insta wine but need rpm) will work
Debian Installation :: How To Install Xfce After Install Is Complete From USB
May 7, 2015When I boot into Debian 8, I pull up a terminal and as root enter "apt-get install xfce4"... It then tries to install but asks for the install DVD. When I insert the USB it will not install from it. It doesn't even acknowledge that it was inserted. It is only looking for a DVD drive. How can I make it pull the files from the usb installer stick?

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Complete Install Failure?
Apr 28, 2011I've tried about a billion times to get this to install correctly to no avail. This is the amd64 desktop edition, but I've tried with the 32 bit as well. I have a lenovo W500. The system never boots off the USB. It gets through a bit, with text output, and then stops. Sometimes it doesn't even give an error message, and other times I get something like udev failed while loading some pci device. I've tried re-downloading the iso several times, different USB keys, different USB key creators, CDs, to no avail.
I then thought, well, heck with it, I'll just install 10.10 and upgrade. Nope, there's a GPG key error for some bizarre reason, which is tripping up apt, but it's not going to tell me what key that is so I can go and get it (and apt-key update does nothing). Command line upgrades fail similarly. So finally, I go for broke and try to just install the thing with Wubi. Of course, that eventually crashes too.

May 26, 2011Looks like I waited too long to upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. Now the Update Manager wants to take my system to 10.04, but then says it is 'not supported with this tool'.Do I need to do a complete re-install of the OS? Is there a reasonable way to get to 9.10 without a complete re-install?

I've checked the disk and I tried different ways to install (different language, both keyboard and system). The first two attempts the installer just turns off and the computer reboots. This third time it just hangs. how to debug and solve this problem?
It's the x86_64 version. I'm using the standard options all the time including LVM on whole disk.

May 24, 2011I just installed ubuntu 11.04 (64-bit) on my system. I mounted / on my SSD and /home on my HD. The installation proceeded for a while and then I suddenly got a message that the installer crashed. Nevertheless the installed linux seems to work and I can boot in Ubuntu. Not sure what exactly is wrong now that the install didn't complete. Any way for me to check what went wrong and what exactly I can do to make sure my system is ok? All appears ok but appearances can be deceiving.

Oct 3, 2010I installed Boxee on my 64bit install. I had to edit the DEB so it did not install Flash, because Ubuntu still insists on installing the 32bit version which always borks Firefox.
But now I cant run synaptic without getting complaints of broken packages. I just want to blacklist boxee from from annoying the hell out of me, but keep it installed. How do I go about doing that?

However, I want Windows on here too...the thing is, I dont want to have to format if possible, I know that you need to install windows before Ubuntu. I have ubuntu all set up how I Like it and it would be a shame to have to wipe it.Is there any way at all I can install windows along side it without having to do a complete format?

May 5, 2010Since having installed Lucid Lynx, I have several complete system crashes a day, no matter which applications I am using. Lucid crashes without any error message and the system reboots. I have had no problem whatsoever with Karmic Koala (also switched from ext2 to ext4 when installing Lucid Lynx). Is there any probable reason for that or a workaround? Can I paste any logs here for anybody to figure out what might be going on? When I try XP which is also install, the system won't crash (so far...), so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

Oct 28, 2010I have a 40 gig external drive that I want to use for Linux. I want the complete install of Ubuntu 10.10 on it so that I can boot straight from there. I tried for hours to accomplish this. The instructions I saw for the issue were for an older version of Ubuntu, and the menus have changed since then. The furthest I got with the project is creating a bootable disk on my drive; it will boot from the drive, but not the full installation. It brings up the menu just like it was a live CD and gives you the options to either "Try Ubuntu" or "Install Ubuntu." I have installed it straight to the drive, but it will not boot from it. My computer does give me the bios option to select boot priority with USB external drives.

Jul 16, 2010I have been running 11.2 32bit on my IBM T43 laptop without issue. Tonight I downloaded 11.3 32bit and installed to HDD. On reboot into new system laptop has complete freeze. Can not do anything but power off to reboot. I also found the same situation if I try to run KDE live off the cd. Oh yes, I downloaded the openSUSE 11.3 KDE Live CD version.
So here is what I found. On bootup (either HDD install or Live CD desktop) I will goto to tty1 or tty4 to see the boot up process messages. And it get right up to the login prompt without issue. If I then switch back to tty7 (the normal bootup display) after a few seconds the screen and laptop itself completely lockup (freeze). So I power off to reboot.
this time I boot up in tty1 again until login prompt but this time I type root to login. Then I switch to tty7 and now I can see the desktop. I goto the menu to search and load up Kinfocenter but then its freezes again.
So its very frustrating as I can not use this new version of openSUSE on my laptop. It just keeps freezing. Whats worse is I cant see any logs or screen message in tty1 because once it starts to login to desktop it freezes. So I am not even sure how to troubleshoot any further what the issue is. I assume its KDE4 or XOrg server.
