I'm trying to get my bearings in Fedora 13 (64-bit) in a virtual machine.I'm using the version with the Gnome DE.Now I'd like to install Koffice. But when I got to the package manager to select packages to install, I get a huge list of components to select for installation -- Kwrite, Kspread, Core support for Koffice, Libraries needed for Koffice, etc.Is there any way to select the version of Koffice that I want and have the whole set of necessary packages automatically be selected too?
whenever i'm trying to install package it shows one warning 'yum-complete-transaction'. but i try to yum-complete-transaction command but i got the result bash: yum-complete-transaction: command not found. so how to clear this warning, y this warning comes
After i remove many applications from my system, i see that there are many temp files on my filesystem (not just from /home directory but also i see many temp files other directories.). So i am asking you how to remove a software completely from Ubuntu ?
I want to install fedora 14 completely to a USB drive, not the live USB but a complete installation. I am using linux after a long gap of 9 years and have forgotten most of the things.
I had my laptop turned on. The battery turned out low and my pc shut down (not in the correct way obviously)! Plus: I was running apt-get upgrade but it should have done before shutting down. Now, I restarted my pc and under nm-applet I see: "wireless network: device not ready" and at login I get the message: "Network configurations failed. org.freedesktop.dbus.error.spawn.PermissionsInvalid: the permission of the setuid helper is not correct" and that I could not be able to connect via bluetooth (but actuallyu I can't use wireless!)! What to do guys? I use debian squeeze. I read from someone using kubuntu that he solved the problem reinstalling all the packages with "dbus" in their name. But I don't know if my ethernet will work yet!
Update: if I run dpkg-reconfigure dbus, it tells me that dbus package is corrupted or not complete: could be the issue?
I just installed VLC player 1.1.2, but during installation it says it requires a whole bunch of other packages to be installed as well (dependencies is the word for it I think). So I installed them. So if I want to remove VLC player 1 day, and I mark it for complete removal, will the dependencies be uninstalled as well?
I am running Fedora 8. Each time I run a YUM command, I get the message that there are unfinished transactions, and to run yum-complete-transaction. Upon running yum-complete-transaction, it fails with this error. How can I remove this uncompleted transaction so I can finish the last one?
My attempt to install Fedora 10 x86_64 to a HP EliteBook6930p with an Intel Centrino 2 processor failed. Initially the CD load presents the start screen where I select Install. Then the machine displays multiple errors. When the error scrolling stops the last comments displayed are:
I have a need for a complete software list off of an existing RHEL 5 system. I need this list to compare software installed to software on a government approved software list to ensure the compliance of this system. I was given an RPM Dump, listing all the 2000+ packages on the system... This does not translate to the Government Approved software list that I have to compare to. I do not have access to this system myself, so what ever method is prescribed for extracting the list I will have to pass along. What I need is either:
1) A way to convert an RPM Package dump to actual software names and versions, etc.
OR
2) A method to extract a complete list of software (titles/versions/etc) from an instance of RHEL5.
Example: Instead of knowing that "pango-devel-1.14.9-6.el5" exists on the system I need to know that "Pango v3.0.x" is installed on the system. Many packages do not relate on a one to one basis with a specific piece of software via inter-dependencies etc. (not to mention the version of the software, not the version of the package/library). The Pango example is not the best example as you can see what software is likely the source of this package; however just because this package is installed, I cannot grantee 100% that the Pango software suite is installed, just that this package was installed...
While creating a new VM for Win2K, I guet the following error when I try to "Finish":

This looks like a SELinux issue, since I do get a warning: SELinux is preventing qemu (qemu_t) "search" to / (fusefs_t). I'm attaching the complete SELinux Alert.
Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.
when i do a paravirtualised install coz fully grey out (how do you get round this) and ftp install path is ftp://192.168.1.1:65354/bie764.iso

When I boot into Debian 8, I pull up a terminal and as root enter "apt-get install xfce4"... It then tries to install but asks for the install DVD. When I insert the USB it will not install from it. It doesn't even acknowledge that it was inserted. It is only looking for a DVD drive. How can I make it pull the files from the usb installer stick?
As topic, I have trouble with compiling brlcad as this thread. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=249899
I assume the last problem I encounter was lack of development package in the system. Hence, I tried "yum install Xorg-devel" and the terminal reply"No package xorg-x11-devel available."
I have to install filezilla, I've got this file FileZilla_3.5.0_x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.bz2 Opening it I see all the files and the folders where to put those files, but I guess there is a command to unpack it directly in the correct folders.
i'm using Ubuntu 9.10. I just installed koffice (Version 1.x) which includes kformula. Then i realized that koffice 2.x is already available which seems to be called "koffice-kde4" in the repositories... But koffice-kde4 doesn't have kformula included - where is it?
I've tried about a billion times to get this to install correctly to no avail. This is the amd64 desktop edition, but I've tried with the 32 bit as well. I have a lenovo W500. The system never boots off the USB. It gets through a bit, with text output, and then stops. Sometimes it doesn't even give an error message, and other times I get something like udev failed while loading some pci device. I've tried re-downloading the iso several times, different USB keys, different USB key creators, CDs, to no avail.
I then thought, well, heck with it, I'll just install 10.10 and upgrade. Nope, there's a GPG key error for some bizarre reason, which is tripping up apt, but it's not going to tell me what key that is so I can go and get it (and apt-key update does nothing). Command line upgrades fail similarly. So finally, I go for broke and try to just install the thing with Wubi. Of course, that eventually crashes too.
Looks like I waited too long to upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. Now the Update Manager wants to take my system to 10.04, but then says it is 'not supported with this tool'.Do I need to do a complete re-install of the OS? Is there a reasonable way to get to 9.10 without a complete re-install?
I just reinstalled fedora and I cant run any movie now, I tried to install MPlayer, vlc, xine for 1 hr but dint work, no yum is found I don't know what's going on, vlc never worked for me I never got it but I never had problem installing mplayer

And I have done a yum clean all.
My question is: How to skip the installation of a package when using yum update from the command line? i.e., How would one update a system from command line and skip/not update kernel?
I've been trying to install xine & some other useful applications on F13, but yum keeps giving me errors of not being able to open package kit or something. Also having issues installing Mplayer all package for patching useful multimedia codecs for amarok, totem and rythmbox players.
