View 3 Replies View RelatedI applied Power Management settings to put my computer to sleep in the hope that it would only sleep when it wasn't downloading something in Deluge. Unfortunately it would seem that it puts the computer to sleep despite Deluge being active. No biggie I thought, I'll just disable the sleep settings my setting them both back to NEVER. However, it ignores my new settings and still puts the display / computer to sleep, at the exact times I set originally!

Rather than searching through all the logs, is there any way for Conky to display the last 2 or 3 login attempts?
Every other time my system comes out of hibernation, I see the blue Fedora screen loading like the computer is powering back on, and all of the sudden the screen goes blank, as if it shut itself back off. The funny thing is the power button is still on, but there is no display. Has anyone heard of this issue before. I'm not sure what to try to get it fixed
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently install Ubuntu-studio Desktop and some other packages. And, I upgraded my System. But since then, the Grub has started to display (I have only 9.10 installed, using the entire Disk). Also, unless I select the entry, Grub does not automatically start. The startup takes nearly 1.5 minutes. And, the Login screen, after the installation of Ubuntu Studio GDM, is much slower. I removed the Ubuntu-studio GDM package, still it takes about 20 seconds to allow me to enter Username and password. Any idea?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis started happening about 1 hour ago. My computer display just went black, and the power light never changed state. I turned off it's power, and then back on (after a few seconds), and the power light came on "blue", which is what it's supposed to be, but i got nothing on the display, and hitting the menu buttons did not show a menu for the display, or any kind of response. i rebooted a couple of times, to no avail.
I thought my new display just crapped out, so i took it to another computer (windows xp laptop) and plugged in the vga cable (my server uses DVI), and it was fine. I took it to another computer (windows 7) with a DVI cable, and it was fine. I brought it back to my desktop/server, and plugged it back in, and it was fine again. Menu buttons and all.
Then, a few minutes later, it went out again. I turned the power for it off for a few minutes, then back on, and it came on with weird scanlines of various colors... then went back to black.
I played with unplugging the dvi cable in the back of the monitor/display, and wiggling it, and then at the computer connection, and at some point it came back on, for no obvious reason (i think i already stopped playing with it).
xorg.log was uneventful, but i can post it, if need be.
Dmesg shows this (the very last line of the NEXT post was the only one of any interest; but googling it returned no scenarious involving display crashes):

The forum recommends to use this program called Bumblebee but I have had some issues with that in the past. Is there somehow I can setup my dual display while staying on Ubuntu 10.04 and not installing Bumblebee? I have researched into setting up dual display walkthroughs before but they all concentrate on nvidia or ATI configurations.
Is there a GUI to change the display? (Color quality, resolution, refresh)I've Googled my butt off, and can't find any answers.

Sudo dpkg-reconfigure x server-xorg
Well, the problem is that according to the steps that the person who posted the code, I should type this code after executing Terminal before computer boots. and the way to execute Terminal is to have the key: escape holded Well, I do hold the key: escape. but I see no terminal! I have typed in normal mode...but, I guess the code only works before boot up. How can I execute terminal? is there any other way to fix the display settings? I currently have Windows Xp and Ubuntu.... and I have no problem with the display settings on Xp Can I do do from recovery mode?
Because I have 2 operating systems I get a screen like this (except mine is ubuntu 10.10) If I do it from the recovery mode.... would the code works?
I have installed Ubuntu 10.4 on Virtual Box, i have installed it successfully, the only problem is when i check the display settings it only have 2 options : 600 X 400 and 800 X 600 and this makes it difficult to work on Ubuntu as 800 X 600 is half the size of my desktop.
how i can increase / configure the display settings so that atleast i can fit ubuntu screen into my screen size.
I installed 6.04 LTS on my machine and the upgraded to 8.04 LTS, and then 10.04 LTS. I was playing around with appearance settings and chose the highest level of window animation but this seemed to cause some sort of problem with gnome (the top bar of windows disappeared including minimize, maximize and close buttons). So I used command line to reinstall gnome (sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop) and this fixed the problem, but because i didnt realize what i had done to cause it i tried to do the animation settings again, which messed it up and became unfixable by using the above command, so i installed the kde desktop environment using command line and chose to use kdm as the default display manager because i thought i might have to uninstall gnome and didnt want to lose all display managers. Later on i had another idea of how to fix my gnome problem, i chose the highest level of animation again in the appearance settings but when it asked if i wanted to keep these settings or use previous settings i chose previous which reverted back to the lowest level and the window bar came back!
Because i got this fixed i didnt want to use the kdm display manager anymore, so i modified the /etc/X11/default-display-manager file from /usr/bin/kdm to /usr/bin/gdm, at the time i didnt realize it was supposed to be sbin! so i restarted the computer and now it cant find the file for kdm or gdm because gdm is in sbin and kdm is in bin but its looking for gdm in bin. So i have been trying to use recovery boot up to edit the file, which is where my problem is: whenever i try to edit the /etc/X11/default-display-manager file to read /usr/sbin/gdm, it displays that i do not have write permissions and that it is a read only file. I have used sudo with every command, and tried nano and vi text editors.Long story short I need to edit the /etc/X11/default-display-manager file to read /usr/sbin/gdm but it will not let me due to "write permissions" even when im using root and sudo;
i was using GDE in my ubuntu system. But yesterday i did some thing so my ubuntu system has changed as debian. My login screen changed and i cant access "system->administration->Login window"when i do this i am getting this error message"GDM (GNOME Display Manager) is not running. You might be using a different display manager, such as KDM (KDE Display Manager), CDE login (dtlogin), or xdm. If you wish to use this feature, then your system will need to be configured to use GDM instead."How to come back to my normal original ubuntu with GNOME.
