Ubuntu :: Create A New Document In LibreOffice?

View 3 RepliesI am having a problem with a LibreOffice when saving or saving as to a Windows Share.
Configuration:
Network
Small office server running Windows. Mounted using the Gigolo manager (used without issue in version 10.10).
All of our contracts and proposals are on the server. I can open a contract in LibreOffice from the server.
(All documents I am working with are native openoffice formats, these were not MS file conversions.)
I open a document titled A_Libreoffice_test.odt from the contracts directory on the windows server. No problems. I save as A_Libreoffice_test_2.odt to the contracts directory on the Windows server and get this error box:
If I select all contents within my document and paste it into a new LibreOffice Writer file then save the new file to the contracts directory on my Windows server, it saves without any problems. However, should I open that very same file that I just created and try to save it after a change or save as without any change, I will receive the error again.
Of course copy and pasting textual contracts is one thing but we also do all of our proposals in OpenOffice Draw (LibreOffice Draw) which behaves the same way. The select all, copy/paste into a new document workaround is less attractive in Draw.
We have 5 Ubuntu machines in our office working with files on this server. For now, employees and I are having to save our documents and transfer them to the server nightly.
I did a test by booting into the MacOS where I am also running LibreOffice and did not experience the same problem.
Here is what I have tried so far:
1) Removing all libreoffice applications and files then reinstalling but that also did not solve the problem.
2) Disabling the firewall on our Windows server temporarily to test the save as function (no change).
3) Remove libreoffice and try to install OpenOffice (not successful).
4) Poured some scotch and posted this question here on the Ubuntu forum... hopefully this works
Running 3.3.2 of LibreOffice under 64bit 11.3. When I open a document (.doc) it opens right away, then the cpu spikes for about 8 seconds during which the app is not usable then all is fine. Renamed .libreoffice and made no difference. Tried with both .doc and .odf document types and the same. If I open a empty doc then the spike is a second or 2.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been a long time linux & Ubuntu fan/user. Since the clean install of 11.04, LibreOffice keeps crashing. No day would go past when using either Writer or Calc, that it will not crash. (I think OpenOffice had same issue on Ubuntu 10.10 but only later on in the cycle.) The recovery function works, but it's now beyond a joke to continue to work in such a way, given that I have used Linux exclusively. I develop web apps on Ubuntu, but am seriously thinking of going over to Windows 7 or even OSX if this continues much longer.
If I can't get this issue resolved, I'm going to stop using Linux, which I do not want to do. when searching for clues to issue on this forum and others, people mentioned a 'seg fault', this might be the issue I have, as I think I saw this reported on one of the error logs. I think a seg fault may have something to do with memory, but I don't know for sure.
I've been using ubuntu off and on for a while now and haven't gone in depth yet but have recently made the complete transfer from windows. I've been loving it however, I'm trying to link libreOffice Base to a mysql account on my netbook for a course in school but am not getting form controls. I've noticed that these comments were made in the software center and in many forums including this one I believe. I haven't seen a decent response to any of the other posts I saw and have been having other minor issues with libreOffice but have tolerated them so far. This just seems like nobody tested it at all.
I was trying to see what alternatives there were to libreOffice for 11.04. It turns out that it is a total nightmare trying to install and use any other software suite on ubuntu. I purged libreoffice but still cannot successfully install and use openoffice or gnomeoffice from the software center. I search online and in forums and all I see are articles and posts explaining how to ditch other suites and install libreoffice but I'm really trying to do the opposite at this point. I really want to love ubuntu but it is being very difficult to do so right now.
I just got an update for LibreOffice and got this error ... how can I fix it? I tried changing permissions of the sdraw.cfg file . E: /var/cache/apt/archives/libobasis3.3-en-us-help_3.3.0-18_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/opt/libreoffice/basis3.3/help/en/sdraw.cfg', which is also in package libobasis3.3-en-us-draw 0

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter I double click it's shortcut it takes LibreOffice Writer 35 seconds to come up fully. I've reinstalled it, played with the memory settings, no change. If I turn on quickstarter it works fine but as many people have noted, you have to turn quickstarter off before you shutdown otherwise the system hangs.
I would like LibreOffice to initialize within 10 seconds and be able to do a shutdown by just clicking shutdown.
I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and Libreoffice 3.3. My Base is very very slow. I've already tried changing the JRE to the Oracle/Sun latest version and the problem is still there. The problem doesn't seem to be in the file, since I can open it on my Windows 7 Libreoffice, without any problems. Solving this bug is important for me to definitely migrate from Windows to Linux.
View 6 Replies View RelatedA few minutes ago, I added LibreOffice's PPA to my sources list. When I went to update my computer, this popped up:
Code:
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type 'a.launchpad.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/libreoffice-ppa-maverick.list' So I tried reporting this bug by tapping Alt+F2 and entering:
Code:
ubuntu-bug update-manager
Then an error pops up, saying it could not determining the package or source package name.
When I try clicking on Ubuntu Software Centre, nothing pops up
I'm really puzzled and would at least like to remove that LibreOffice PPA so I can use Ubuntu Software Centre.
Does anyone know when libreoffice will be released in the Ubuntu Repository?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed Libreoffice on my Ubuntu 10.10 (through wubi), and uninstalled Openoffice afterwards. Everything's ok. But then I continue to receive updates for openoffice modules (which are a lot btw). From the Software Center, currently installed are libreoffice modules together with (I think) their openoffice counterparts. Now the question is, is it safe to remove the openoffice modules? Or does Libreoffice need them, too? How do I remove them completely from the updates?

I've recently converted two Ubuntu 10.04 (one 64, one 32bit) machines to LibreOffice. We've used OpenOffice.org since early 2.x The issue is a database file created in OOo and now needing to be accessed in LO. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any issue with file compatibility. On the 64 bit machine, (a Ubuntu server installation - not headless) the file opens with no trouble and is fully accessible. (forms, reports, tables, etc.) However, on the 32 bit machine, trying to access the file over the network on the server via samba (because we also have Windows machines on the network, so I serve it all up via samba) I am able to open the database, but get the following error when trying to access any table, form or report: The connection to the data source "Mattress Prices" could not be
established.

I wanted to try LibreOffice out. I found a PPA for it, so I added the source, tried it out, didn't like it, and noticed that openoffice now won't work. Which isn't too big of a deal, but now I can't even get the software center to install it. It gives me some error that you can read in the screenshot. What can I do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI would appreciate it if someone could post the default configuration for this particular file:

I'm trying to view a PPTX file. The presentation has notes that I have to be able to see, but the note view in LibreOffice shows no notes or slides. The normal view shows the slide, but you can't see the notes. (OpenOffice did this same thing, which is why I tried LibreOffice).
This is what I see with the PPTX file: [URL]
When I open the file on a Windows machine with Office 2010, I can save the file as a "PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation," and the PPT file then works in LibreOffice, as shown here: [URL]
The problem is that I don't want to have to open a windows machine to convert my class presentations every time I want to view them. Is there anyway to view PPTX presentations with notes on Linux? PowerPoint Viewer will not open PPTX files.
If libreoffice writer is already running in workspace 1 and you open a new document, that document opens in workspace 2. And, interestingly, if you first open writer in workspace 2, it opens new documents into workspace 1.
I tried to recreate the problem with the spreadsheet program and couldn't, it seems to be confined just to the word processor. I don't know if this is a natty problem or a libreoffice problem - I got them both at once with the upgrade.
Also, I don't know if this is the right forum for reporting bugs.
I can start libreoffice as root user, but can't start as normal user. Shows error, exception "user" like something, now even that also stopped coming.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using LibreOffice 3.3.2 to open a document I received through work. The document is from MS Word in .doc format and has some track changes. I started using Libre Office to track my changes to the document but the only format I can save it in and retain my changes is .odt which is fine for me. However I would like to return this in .doc format.
It seems odd that LibreOffice happily opens a document with track changes but cannot save them back in that format.
Am I doing something wrong? I am using Edit>Changes>Record and then File>Save As.
