View 4 RepliesI am running 11.4 with KDE updated to 4.6.3 and suddenly I cant start Yast or Software Manager using kickoff. It doesn't even open the dialogue to ask for root password. I see Yast appear in the panel for 15 seconds or so then it just disappears without opening a window. If I open a terminal and su to root and run yast2 it work fine.

I have setup a CentOS 5.5 server as a DHCP server. That will be it's only task in a Cisco callmanger VoIP environment The DHCP server that comes with CentOS 5.5 is from ISC V3.0.5 -redhat.
The server (HP DL360) has two physical NIC's of which only NIC1 is used (ETH0)
ifconfig shows:
Code:
The interface has a fixed IP setup.
My dhcp.conf file looks like this:
Code:
When I start (try to) dhcpd via the service interface or via the prompt as
Code: service dhcpd start
I get an [FAILED] message and the following is in /var/log/messages
Code:
But when I start the DHCPD on the comamnd prompt in debug mode it looks as follows:

and /var/log/messages shows:
Code:
Why does the system ask a declaration for eth0 0.0.0.0?
LibreOffice 3.4 shows up as installed and in my applications menu, but when I try to open it (either through the menu or by opening a file) it shows up with the spinning thing in the task bar but then disappears and never opens.
Did I forget to install part of it?
I tried Word Processor, found that I can't key in any word & punctuation, and when I paste some words on it, it show, but if I add any word or punctuation, it doesn't show. Another problem is,I can't choose the format to save the thing. Is Libre Office really ready for end user?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed libreoffice from the official Debian repository. Even after a clean installation of Debian Jessie, Libreoffice started and ran only once. After that, when LO was started, it gave an error message: "Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module".I installed "canberra-gtk-module." From then on, LO never gave any error message in terminal. The banner flashes across the screen for a moment and then disappears.
I deleted ~/.config/libreoffice folder and started LO again. Each time the command "libreoffice" is run in terminal, it creates the configuration files in ~/.config folder.I created a new user to check if LO would run. It does run when a new user account is created. But the problem keeps coming back.
After uninstalling libreoffice, I tried installing openoffice 4. Even openoffice 4 wouldn't start. The banner would just appear for a moment.
I want to use LibreOffice but I keep getting an error every time I try to open any office application.
The error is : The application cannot be started. [context="bundled"] caught unexpected exception!
I installed the .debs the first time and thought it might be wiser to install it from the experimental repos. So I reinstalled but there's no difference,I keep getting the error.
I reinstalled and found that the same error is caused by the installation for the dictionaries.I removed those but the error is still present.
I've seen people post this error on some forums except context=user and not bundle. However,it seems those were Windows 7 machines and that it's a 64 bit bug.
I'm also running the 64 bit version.
Also,if I try to install the desktop-integration .debs I get another error ( that is,if I remove the dictionaries, otherwise the installation runs just fine ) :
Suse 11.3 KDE 32bit Following instructions in software.opensuse.org: Search Results I installed LibreOffice using the 1-click Install method. It will not start and produces no error when invoked from the console. Now here's the strangest part. If I left click on an .ods file produced by LibreOffice on another computer (on which it worked) KDE tries to extract it using ark even though file properties identifies it as an "ODS spreadsheet".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using opensuse 11.4 kde 4.6. When I (try) to start libreoffice, splash window appears but program doesn't start.
When I launch it from console as normal user i don get any clue, but as root user i got this:
Code:
I run "export $(dbus-launch)" and libreoffice works, but only launching it as root user.
Recently I noticed, that manpages are not available anymore for a normal user:
Code:
$ man grep
No manual entry for grep
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available. With root privileges everything works fine
As I get reply from antoher forum is best there on Ubuntu is better to have 2 user accounts - one is admin and other is normal user for surfing, and other things. But there is problem. How can I install applications on this normal user account?
And,.. is option for installed applications (on normal user acc.) is no visible or installed on admin account?
- Can I .reg file for program which is running on Wine, use for a program that I need to change settings in "registry"?
I am developing an app that require gnuplot installed.
But I do noticed that ubuntu 8.04.4-desktop come without gnuplot.
Is there some way to install gnuplot as a normal user, without root privileges?
Or, may be, some one can think in another way to solve my problem...
I'm having some trouble with Tomcat 6 after upgrading to 10.10. During the upgrade process, the installer hung while dealing with Tomcat 6, which required me to kill the upgrade and do some clean up, and then re-run `apt-get upgrade` again to get things going. This left some weirdness (like the MOTD for both 10.10 and 10.04 being shown on login), but otherwise things are OK. The only remaining problem I have is Tomcat; it simply won't start when the server is booted. The information I have:
Tomcat 6 runs normally when started with `sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start`. No errors are thrown, everything works as expected.I used `rcconf` to try removing and reinstalling the rc scripts, this didn't help. I manually deleted all the rc scripts, then used `rcconf` again. The scripts all seem symlinked correctly to `/etc/init.d/tomcat6`, but it's just not coming up on boot. I ran `sudo grep "tomcat" /var/log/*.log` to see if something is appearing in the logs, but nothing of interest is there.
How can I verify that Ubuntu is even trying to start Tomcat? As this is a development box, I am not adverse to a quick + dirty solution if there's some either simple way of getting it started at boot. I'm thinking the next Ubuntu release will see me blow away the server and start it fresh, but right now I'd just like a working box
for security reasons,I want to disable shutdown for normal user, but the post here does not help me. It is because when I open the /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf I just saw a blank file. I use the 9.10 version.
View 6 Replies View RelatedBecause I have a flaky wireless device, I occasionally get a hung connection and this script gets things running again in just a few seconds except obviously the boldfaced item, as it still tries to run in the root directory and gives errors:
Configuration file "/root/.kde/share/config/knetworkmanagerrc" not writable.
Please contact your system administrator.
So I am not sure how to get knetworkmanager to run as me, the user ubuntu in the /home/ubuntu directory
#!/bin/bash
service network-manager stop
sleep 1

I just want to be able to access and modify the files on my usb drive as a normal user. The mount command works perfectly as root but then the files that I end up copying to my home folder can only be modified as root. I only use a window manager and use just bash for file management. I just want to be able to it through the command line.

I get a blank screen with no progress when I use normal mode, but I am able to get into desktop environment using recovery mode and selecting safe graphics mode from there. Anything I could to do to restore my normal desktop environment.

Do you know if there is any way that I can make this script run by normal users?
I am using a minimal version of 9.04 with openbox.
I'm trying to get my backup script to run every week, but as a normal user, and not as root as it is done when the script is placed in /etc/cron.weekly. Anacron fits my needs in the sense that it doesn't require my computer to always be on, as opposed to cron, and will just run my script when it can, but at the most each week. Cron fits my needs in the sense that I can run the script as the user I am logged in as. The particular script backs up my home directory with rdiff-backup, and it is very convenient that I am the owner of that backup, since when root performs the backup, I am unable to browse my own backup files and must use "sudo" to do this.
Is there a way to let me use the feature of anacron that allows my computer to not always be on, but still get a weekly execution, and also run the script as a normal (non-root) user?
I am running ubuntu on several computers. One in particular runs mythbuntu and is a mythtv server and frontend.
I do the ubuntu upgrade every 6 months so that I can gain the new features and enhancements included in mythtv.
My issue is that with each upgrade seems to come more issues. For instance, this time I upgraded to the latest and greatest and now mythtv crashes every day or two. Also, since vdpau was added to the new nvidia drivers, i am unable to get it to work.
So my question is: Is it normal for you guys to do a complete reinstall when you want to go to a new version of your linux flavor of choice.
It seems that the new ubuntu (really mythbuntu) is very stable and never crashes, but it just seems to me that once you start running a few programs, they just don't upgrade well.
