How do I get my text document back? Using XFCE4.6.1, mousepad and kate write for my journal. Properties says its a zip archive but I didn't do that. Anyway tried to unzip it and got:
Code:
PowerJustice may be a plain executable, not an archive
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of PowerJustice or
PowerJustice.zip, and cannot find PowerJustice.ZIP, period.

View 14 Replies View RelatedIs there some kind of universally recognized pragma that one can insert at the beginning of a text document to designate it to be UTF-8 encoded (or any other encoding)? I've seen certain editors insert encoding comments, and one or two compilers that have an encoding pragma. But I was wondering if anyone has tried to establish some kind of universal tag format for text documents.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've compiled the last stable ubuntu kernel (2.6.38-...) following this guide: How to compile a Ubuntu 10.10 kernel but in this guide doesn't explain how create linux-libc-dev package for that kernel? How do I do?
I've tried with fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch-headers but it returns an, IMHO, absurd error:
mkdir /home/simon/sources/kernel/ubuntu-natty/debian/linux-libc-dev/usr/include/
mkdir: cannot create directory `/home/simon/sources/kernel/ubuntu-natty/debian/linux-libc-dev/usr/include/': File exists

The error is correct but this folder is created in the same process!

I'm trying to fill in an application form that I downloaded. It has some shaded areas where I can answer questions, but there are
a couple places where the shaded areas are missing.Have you previously applied with the C.B.E? "Readonly content cannot be changed No modifications will be accepted." Can I add a shaded area in so I can fill this in, or can I disable the read only part?
I want to be able to preform functions on the PDF such as enlarge font and copy & paste. I'm using Gnome, but will download packages and dependencies for any desktop environment.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am going to compile and install my first linux application from the command line. The program is the port scanner program NMAP, and I am looking at the documentation to learn how to do it. I saw this thread [URL], and I just want to make sure I understand what it is I'm doing.
bzip2 -cd nmap-5.35DC1.tar.bz2 | tar xvf -
cd nmap-5.35DC1
./configure
make
su root
make install
"bzip2 -cd nmap-5.35DC1.tar.bz2 | tar xvf -"
Here I am calling the bzip2 program to work with a specified file. look for the file nmap-5.35DC1.tar.bz2 in the current diretory (-cd) and to pipe (redirect) something, this is where I get lost, I think. And I know what x & v mean but not f, or what that has to do with the previous commands.
cd nmap-5.35DC1
Chage to the named directory.
./configure
I assume this is a command?
make
Builds an executable
su root
make install
not sure what the difference is between this and the above.
For example if you want to create an alias in Linux with a message echoed into the variable would the following command be; alias hello="(echo)"Hello." "? I'm trying to learn some environment variables and aliases.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a graphical front end for xrandr that also allows you to save your setup so that it automatically sets up the X configuration at boot time thereby simplifying this process. For example, at the moment if i want to use an external monitor on my laptop i have to manually set it up after booting as it defaults to the laptop resolution which is not a big deal but would still be nice to have this happen automatically. I tried putting a script into rc.local to do this but didnt work.I have tried programs such as lxrandr, grandr, arandr which are all good but dont allow you to save your choices so that they are automatically applied at the next boot of the X system.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know how to take a screenshot on my Ubuntu, but I want to take many screenshots within a limited time (taking screenshots of a single execution of a program which I can not pause). Is there a program that takes the "PrtScr" keyboard key in charge and just stores every screenshot without asking? The standard Ubuntu tool pops up a dialog to ask where I want to save the file, I would like a tool that doesn't ask and just saves on the Desktop or wherever as 00001.png 00002.png etc.
