Apr 6, 2010I lately bought a Logitec c200 webcam, which seems to be interfacing quite well with my ubuntu 9.10 except for one thing: the moment I plug it in kmix doesn't recognize my microphone/headphones but only the webcam's inbuilt microphone- anybody know of a cure for that problem?

Oct 7, 2010I have a laptop computer running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When headphones are inserted into the headphones port, sound continues to come out the internal speakers, and not through the headphones.
This works fine in Windows 7, so the hardware appears to be good. This did work properly when we first installed Ubuntu - it spontaneously stopped working one night, so I'm not sure what we did to make it stop acting normally.
I have run "alsamixer" in the terminal, and toggled every mute and volume bar there is (there are only 4). The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite T135D-S1324.

Jun 13, 2010I have a Acer Aspire One netbook running Lucid Lynx.Sound quality is fine through my speakers, but when I plug in headphones things go awry. The headphones are working because the speakers mute and I can hear musical instruments playing on the track, but I can't hear any of the voices in the music.It's as if the voices are muted, but I can still hear the guitars, drums, bass, etc. When I unplug the headphones the track plays normally, voices and all, through the speakers.

Nov 13, 2010first because of my nvidia card if I don't put nomodeset my screen turns off.also whenever I try to update my nvidia drivers either the ones from the ones from the website or the propriety drivers I get a MCU failure or something like that and to fix that i have to change "nvidia" in my xorg.conf to "nv" but then my resolution loads to 640x480 which i cant change and it says im not using the propriety drivers so then i changed "nv" to "vesa" which makes my screen highest screen resolution 1280x 720 and apparently my refresh rate is 0. but i cant do anything good without the propriety drivers.Also my sound doesn't work at all unless i plug in some headphones.

Apr 4, 2010So I tried to install Ubuntu on my Acer Aspire ASE380 desktop, and I think during the partition portion. I think I messed up the hard drive.
Now my computer won't recognize my hard drive. I've tried using the acer repair disks I made, I tried unplugging and checking all the cords and lines, I tired flashing the BIOS, I've tried using other boot disks like Ultimate boot CD, and Acer support is no help either.
I really don't know what to do now. It shows nothing in the boot setup or the BIOS set up. I've also tired the ALT - F10 for acer computers to enter and repair partition and nothing.
I just want to get this thing up and running. I'm tempted to just buy a new hard drive.

Oct 13, 2010How do I get Bitpim to work on my lg vu cu920 phone on Ubuntu 10.04? I have the data cable. I seen serval peoples said they got it to work but they never said how. I set the phone to the lg-vx8700. Sometime I get ports that will be open and then not. It doesn't mount under the mass storage. Would be awesome if someone on here could explain how they did it. Believe me I looked all over google and the forums and they all talk about they got it to work but no further details. Can't really bring up really old threads on here.

Dec 22, 2010I have Ubuntu installed on a separate drive. Dual boot with win XP. It was working out fine..Then, and I don't remember exactly when, the boot process was interrupted saying Drive 2 not found..the Ubuntu drive. So I press F2 and enter BIOS setup. I have to cycle through the drives to #2, select 'on', then leave BIOS setup. OK so far..I can confuse myself.. Anyhow, my computer will then continue to the Dual boot screenWindows will load fine, but Ubuntu goes to a command line screen for grub>.When I push 'Esc' I go to a screen with several commands listed, most of which return me to the grub> prompt..the 'reboot' command sends me back through the Bios process, the 'halt' command shuts down the computer. Grub> wants something and I don't know what it is. Do you think I'll have to reinstall? Bad hard drive?I'd like to get my Ubuntu back really just getting to get a feel for the system.

Sep 8, 2010I have an acer aspireone aod250, i putted an external cdrom and downloaded the ubuntu, tried to install it but it didn't recognize the hdd... i though it was the cd, i downloaded ubuntu netbook edition, it did the same. i thought maybe i could try another operative, i downloaded linux mint 9, did the same thing. then ordered a cd from ubuntu.com, got in today, and it doesn't recognize my hdd. btw, the hdd is a seagate momentus 5400.6 with 160gb. i already ran ubuntu with the cd rom and starts the instalation, but when it arrives to the partitioning part of the instalation, it doesn't detect my hdd. but the bios in the pc detects it.

When I tried to open it from the email using the default gedit I got an error message - Could not open the file /tmp/Feb.txt gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding. check that you are not trying to open a binary file. Select a character encoding from the menu and try again.The character encoding is set to 'automatically detected'.
How come it can't detect the encoding? I had to manually set the encoding to Western(ISO 8599-15) to load it. I can't remember this happening in the past, and it was OK loading one I sent earlier (Jan.txt) which presumably had the same encoding, as it was written in the same way.

Sep 16, 2010I recently upgraded from karmic to lucid. I am currently having a problem trying to get ubuntu to recognize my LG slim External DVD drive. It was recognized fine in Karmic, but for some reason doesnt work now in Lucid. The device does work as i have tried it on other computers.
