I have a sandisk sd card with 3 partitions two ext2 and one fat 32 partition for some reson Ubuntu only automounts two ext2 partitions. I've tried inserting another card with only one fat32 partition and the system doesn't mount it. Both cards are visible in gparted byt not in "Places" menu.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to recognize my video card ATI Radeon X1200 and I have to boot in safe graphics mode. I can use my computer but the display is a bit off. I have tried to install the ATI driver but get the following:

I have recently installed Karmic to a portable hard drive (WD elements 500gb) so that when it is plugged in the grub can boot and i can go into ubuntu 9.10 and when it is out windows 7/vista dual boot screen shows. When in ubuntu, there is no driver for my 'NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS' graphics card available so i am stuck with the no effects mode and the games are poor.
Previously i had this same setup (but with jaunty) and the graphics card worked well, i could have all the wobbly window effects etc, but now i can't have anything.How could i get a driver for this?BTW, it is running through USB 2.0, although it is very fast.
I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Graphics card that Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't seem to recognize no matter what I do. Knowing that its an older card and that ATI stopped support for it a while ago, I was wondering if anyone knows if I would have better luck on Ubuntu 8.04. I can't get 3d or opengl to work, or install the correct ATI Driver.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.

When i first installed Fedora on my new system i created 2 ntfs partitions on the hard disk using mkfs.ntfs and in the space at the end of the disk i have Fedora. recently i tried installing Win7 but it didnt recognise the partitions even tho they are NTFS. I had to format 1st partition from setup to install Win7. After boot i find that Win7 doesn't recognise the 2nd partition as welL. The partitions are working fine in Fedora.

I have installed Fedora 12, i'm using an external lcd samsung screen on the vga port, it works fine. My display properties shows two screen as well as the correct resolutions...the problem it that i can't use my latopt screen, i have tried different resolutions..but nothing. I can't use mi laptopt without an external screen.Even if i boot without my external screen, my laptopt screen goes black.

I have been upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04. Now, I want to install 10.10 from the beginning without losing the data in my current partitions but when I run the Maverick installer it recognize my disk as a whole with no partitions. From another posts, I suspect that the problem is in the partition list because it seems to be a duplicate partition but don't know how to fix it. This is the fdisk output:

I recently have installed Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Netbook Edition in my personal netbook. The thing is that I had installed Windows 7 in the hard disk drive so I decided to install Ubuntu alongside with it. After the process of installation everything was cool but I hadn't the Grub working. I then pressed the Shift button during the booting process so I got the Grub menu but it didn't show the Windows 7 partition. The Windows installation was not erased because its file system is present in Nautilus. I have tried reinstalling the Grub a thousand times but nothing changes. I have attached the results of the boot info script so you can have some info about my booting configuration.

I got tired of dual booting on my old computer so on the new computer I am planning to run XP on VMware Player. The problem is that on the new computer neither Ubuntu or XP can "see" the FAT32 partition. I intend to use the FAT32 partition for photo images and old Windows files and need access from both Ubintu and XP.
Partition table entries are not in disk order.
I've a new format in my HDD and put win7 and ubuntu 10.04. I made a partition about 50GB so that i can get files from ubuntu to windows and the other way around.I can see that partition in windows but not in ubuntu.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a partition to share files between Ubuntu and Windows, sometimes it becomes read-only but it's always reversible, this time it seems completely locked, all folders even have lock symbols and I can't change any file even if I open nautilus as root.
I can use it through windows with no problems, and have tried using PySDM to modify it but it's still the same.
I have been waiting on installing ubuntu on my mid 2010 MBP 15' for a while now. I was wondering if the dynamic GPU switching was supported yet. Does Ubuntu recognize the intel card and can I use it over the nVidia card?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm installing a new SSD this upcoming weekend. My thought was to go easy on it so it lasts longer by putting my swap files on a mechanical drive instead of the SSD. I don't - however - want to waste space for swap files. It would be nice if I could use the same 6GB FAT32 partition for swap files for both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Is this possible? It might not even be necessary though, I have enough RAM that I rarely use the swap file at all (I've even considered going without swap all together), so it probably won't pose a huge load to the drive.

I want 500gb of my HD to be FAT32 so I can put all of my music, pictures, and videos on it. I don't have more than 100gb used on either partition.
I have done quite a bit of searching and browsing, but I can't find a good step by step guide to do this. I am guessing I need to figure out how to use fdisk?
I'm not that new in Linux I've been using for years since 2010 mostly, and formatted a number of flash drives with allegedly fat32 fs however, this time I need to be sure I'm formatting it as fat32 for experimental reasons and I can't seen to find a mkfs.fat32, both vfat and fat are fat16 and I don't know what msdos does...

I am installing from USB and do not yet have a copy of Windows to install. I keep getting an error saying that the attempt to mount vfat failed.
I'd like to wipe free space on a fat 32 partition, momentary by doing

That stops each time the file is 4GB big, as this is the maximum supported filesize for fat32 partitions. So I redo the command, only writing now to "garbage2" or so.Is there any more elegant way to do that? Maybe by script which automatically generates new file names, until the disc is full?
