Still new here so sorry if I've posted this wrong.Just wondering what happends to minimized windows? If i click it in unity it just opens a new one(Chrome can be used as an example here).
View 8 RepliesOn fedora 13 gnome, once I minimize a window, for example, a command terminal window, or a firefox window, I can't see it any more and therefore there is no way to get it back to normal size. I have to reopen that window.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi don't know what happened, I was doing the ctrl+alt+fn thing to pan around my desktops, and i think i somehow assigned the mouse to automatically right click on its own whenever i move it or anything. This is really messed up. It's like a virus. Just writing this the right click window has come up about 20 times and there's now a dozen new folders on my desktop. How do I fix this? How do I go into controls and stuff?

Is there is a way in compiz to open all the minimized windows in the taskbar? Since I want to use the "scale" feature in compiz for all of the windows. As what you already know is that, the "scale" feature only works for the open windows not the minimized ones. So I want a way to open all the minimized windows with a shortcut(using compiz or any thing else) and then use the scale feature again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt just hit me that I'd minimized a bunch of windows....and they were nowhere to be found. Alt-Tab allows me to scroll through them, but even though I've uninstalled cairo-dock now, I still can't get them to minimize to the bottom bar. It is as if I've nothing open.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running a week old 11.3 install with KDE (no desktop effects), compiz, nvidia. Last night I was working away. I had Thundertbird, Firefox, and VMWare Workstation open. Maybe something else, but I don't remember.
I was typing away. Maybe I hit something on the keyboard, but maybe not. All apps just disappeared, meaning that they're windows were not open and were not minimized to the panel. I could open *new* windows, and I fire up a terminal and ran top, which showed that they were all running, just not visible. Obviously, this is a Bad Thing.
I was just wondering what happens to my windows after I hit minimize, it seems like they just disappear! I know I can use alt+tab, but I was hoping there might be an easier way.BTW I am a COMPLETE noob to Ubuntu (first time using 11.04, used 9 before) so you will have to describe things so I can understand better

I know it sounds strange, but I want to have Evolution Mail open at start up, but be minimized. I know the command to open Evolution Mail is "evolution --component=mail" but how would I make the window starts out being minimized in the Launcher.

I am using the Shift Switcher on Compiz to switch windows. Also i don't use any taskbar to show what apps are open or not. Minimized windows are simply "invisible" as it were. When switching, minimized windows are represented by their icons. Instead i would like to see them as a thumbnail (as with maximized windows). Can i make Compiz do that?

How can i disable the transparency of minimized applications. I attached a SS to explain it. I want the icon pointed by arrow to be non transparent, same as icon at the right of it.
Most of the times I open a program (either Evolution or Liferea) from the MeMenu, it appears shifted below. By this I mean that, even if the window is maximized, it does not reach the panel, leaving a strip where one can see behind. But, when one tries to click on anything, it behaves like if the window was in place.So, in order to click on some area, I have to aim some 50px or so above it. Of course this is not very comfortable. Stangely enough, this does no happen if I get the focus of Evolution or Liferea by some other means, such as Alt+Tab or clicking on the sidebar.

I was now fiddling around to setup the box and found following problem;Minimizing the webpage won't sink it to the bottom bar, just closing it. (including the text editor)Immediately after installation I don't have this problem. Now on clinking the "min" tab of the webpage/text editor I can't find them on the bottom bar as tab. How do I restore the original minimizing behavior, where you could see the programs in the panel?
the theme that i am using is dark and when i have application minimized and need attention like aconversation window or something and someone send something to me it blink in a gray color which is not easy to notice and i was thinking to change that to a bright orange or something... so is that possible to do without changing the theme?

I tried adding tomboy to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications, but then Tomboy opens up in full-screen mode. Then I tried adding tomboy-panel instead, but that doesn't seem to do anything at all. What's the trick I'm missing?

What I'm looking for is a command line option for opening an application in a minimized state. Is this possible? Or should I start looking into a script to find the window and minimize it?
Isn't it possible to create a launcher to an application and in the command tell it to start minimzed?
Something like
vlc --minimize
Or something similar? this would be helpful to application on startup not crowding your desktop on login.
Kontact is automatically started when I log in to kde 4 and I would like to figure out how to make it immediately minimize to a tray icon. When I used kde 3.5 I had a script in .kde/autostart that ran a dcop call to close kontact, which effectively minimized it to a tray icon. I assume that I should be able to do the same now with dbus and a script using dbus-send. The problem is that I haven't been able to figure out the exact dbus call that I would need. Has anyone else tried to accomplish the same thing? I've googled but all the results I've found are for kde 3. I'm using kde 4.1.3 and kontact 1.3.

My applications, after minimized, seems to disappear from the desktop.
I can still access them using Alt-Tab.
In the taskbar setting, I have enabled "Show Application icons". But that does not make the icons appear
in the taskbar after minimized.
Any suggestions to show my minimized icons in taskbar?
When I minimize the applications, the icons do not appear in the taskbar. Why is that so? It was OK in centos5.3. I believe I may have missed out some configurations.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter upgraded to 11.3. Do a operation that active a network node, the Knetworkmananger will active a display on "Task Bar" (see figure 1). And it can't be minimized to "System Tray Panel", just can't be minimized to "Task Bar".
And the network list display pops up without all display some time (see figure 2), it's very boring.
If I kill the Kneworkmananger and restart it again, it will just have a Icon on "System Tray Panel" normally. But if it change to another network node automatically or I change it by clicking the icon, the display on "Task Tar" will appear and can't be resume to "System Tray", just like mentioned above.
I don't know why have this problem, I tried to reinstall the Knetworkmanager, but the problem also exist.
then I tried to move something to a workspace and it got locked into opening every time i opened firefox,. I tried to fix that and because i have no idea what i am doing whatsoever i lost the whole bottom panel. I can hear music playing from two different minimized windows,... but cannot find them to close them.. Can not even see them
