I have a problem and I don't understand how it started...
When I minimize windows, they disappear beyond my desktop not leaving the button to maximize them again on the lower panel...
I have no idea how to get the minimized windows to be stored on the lower panel...
How can i fix this problem?
i don't know what happened, I was doing the ctrl+alt+fn thing to pan around my desktops, and i think i somehow assigned the mouse to automatically right click on its own whenever i move it or anything. This is really messed up. It's like a virus. Just writing this the right click window has come up about 20 times and there's now a dozen new folders on my desktop. How do I fix this? How do I go into controls and stuff?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnytime I open a window and then minimize it-poof it's gone! for instance when I minimize firefox or just about any other app it just disappears instead of landing into the panel as it usually does when minimized. Is this a KDE problem? I just tried to upgrade to 11.2/KDE on the net (that was a mistake.) I finally installed from Downloaded DVD (install version) and crawled back from upgrade hell.

View 2 Replies View RelatedComputer was working alright, no one was really using it anymore so I decided to reformat it and install Ubuntu. The whole install process went through but when I restarted the computer it was all glitchy and anything that came on screen would disappear after an instant and then come back. Makes reading anything extremely hard. Realized I only have 256 MB of RAM which is probably a big problem which I understand but I need a solution to fix this. Any older versions of ubuntu or other linux distributions that I should try?

As what you already know is that, the "scale" feature only works for the open windows not the minimized ones. So I want a way to open all the minimized windows with a shortcut(using compiz or any thing else) and then use the scale feature again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running a week old 11.3 install with KDE (no desktop effects), compiz, nvidia. Last night I was working away. I had Thundertbird, Firefox, and VMWare Workstation open. Maybe something else, but I don't remember.
I was typing away. Maybe I hit something on the keyboard, but maybe not. All apps just disappeared, meaning that they're windows were not open and were not minimized to the panel. I could open *new* windows, and I fire up a terminal and ran top, which showed that they were all running, just not visible. Obviously, this is a Bad Thing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedDownloaded and played latest Ubuntu (10.10) to get an idea of how it works (without actually installing it). Currently i use windows 7. When I restarted my computer all my desktop icons had disappeared. I still have the programs in my documents file or wherever but my desktop is clear. Is there any way i can restore them without doing it one by one? i.e. get back to my previous state.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Lucid installation which I've imaged and pushed to several computers on the network at my office. The system authenticates network users with Active Directory using Kerberos, and mounts NFS shares from a Lucid server downstairs using pam_mount. It all works quite smoothly most of the time, but I get desktop icons in Gnome only on the first login. If I log out, then log in as a different user (local or network, it doesn't matter), the desktop icons are all gone. Everything else looks normal, and I can open a Nautilus window and view any location on the hard drive just as expected. If I use the run dialog or a terminal window to executekillall nautilus the icons are restored. This works whether any instance of a file browser window is open or not.
I have noticed similar, but far less consistent, behavior with gnome-panel. Every once in a while the panels will fail to appear when I log in, but I can restore them withkillall gnome-panel When I run either command, everything works fine until the next login. If I reboot the machine, I get everything back again for one login. Then the desktop icons will disappear, and I have to kill Nautilus and let it restart in order to get them back. I expect I'm missing something important here, but I don't know where to look next.
When I activate the nvidia and restart, the desktop disappears. I have tried re-installing Ubuntu and mint and it keep happening. The computer is has a single core amd athlon 64, 1.5gb's of ram and a nvidia 7300gs card.

But now the windows do not close properly, but remain as an inactive background display.As a side note, there's no startup screen, but just some screen garbage, as if an incorrect video driver would have been used.When I do move windows, their shade remains in the background, filling the background with garbage.

So here is my situation...I have a 16 GB SDHC card installed in the reader in my netbook as additional storage. As the main solid state "hard drive" itself is only 16 GB I leave the card in at all times. I would like to do away with the desktop icon as I never use it to access the SD card. Any way to do this? I believe it appear as part of the HAL process so perhaps it will go away with 10.04.

The most often given advice is:" expect your taskbar is missing the "Window List" applet.To add it: Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, choose "Add to panel", scroll down and add "Window List". "When I click on an empty area of the taskbar I see no option to 'Add to panel' The options are:
Add widgets (meaning unknown to me)Add Panel (which is NOT 'Add to panel'). This option does not appear to have any visible or useful result.
I'm running Kubuntu, updated to 10.04. After working OK, today Windows started disappearing whenever I click to minimize them. They're still running, but I have to go to System Monitor, locate the program in the list and click "Show Window." That's a nuisance.
I think this began after I tried to move panel icons to the right with an adjustable spacer. I've hunted all over the place for some setting to get windows to operate properly. The "Window Behavior" item in System Settings doesn't have anything. I removed the spacer and that didn't do anything, either.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 10.4 netbook remix on my Asus N10 with an Nvidia card. I normally don't use the card and to get rid of troubles don't install the driver. After update something went wrong with the driver and I can't fix it. When the PC finished his boot het ask to give the password for the default key ring as usual but the window disapears before i can change anything. So this one is no too bad as my password is very easy and I can do the job with switching windows and keying very fast the pwd.
But try to read your evolution mail in these circumstances. I tried to start in low graphics mode but didn't help. Finaly I installed a fresh version on a separate partition and asked to copy my Evolution and Firefox documents. He didn't, dn't know why and tryed twice. So far my fresh installation works well but I lost my mails and shortcuts. So.... I think the easiest would be to work from the new installation as on the old one even the terminal window disapears.
