OpenSUSE :: Can't See Minimized Stuff

Mar 29, 2011

I've been playing around with the cairo dock, and after moving the original dock around, when I minimize a window, it simply disappears. I've since gotten rid of cairo but the minimizing behavior hasn't returned.

How do I restore the original minimizing behavior, where you could see the programs in the panel?

OpenSUSE :: Knetworkmanager Can't Be Minimized To System Tray Panel

Aug 6, 2010

After upgraded to 11.3. Do a operation that active a network node, the Knetworkmananger will active a display on "Task Bar" (see figure 1). And it can't be minimized to "System Tray Panel", just can't be minimized to "Task Bar".

And the network list display pops up without all display some time (see figure 2), it's very boring.

If I kill the Kneworkmananger and restart it again, it will just have a Icon on "System Tray Panel" normally. But if it change to another network node automatically or I change it by clicking the icon, the display on "Task Tar" will appear and can't be resume to "System Tray", just like mentioned above.

I don't know why have this problem, I tried to reinstall the Knetworkmanager, but the problem also exist.

OpenSUSE :: Disappearing Applications From - (windows Open And Minimized) Panel

Jul 29, 2010

I am running a week old 11.3 install with KDE (no desktop effects), compiz, nvidia. Last night I was working away. I had Thundertbird, Firefox, and VMWare Workstation open. Maybe something else, but I don't remember.

I was typing away. Maybe I hit something on the keyboard, but maybe not. All apps just disappeared, meaning that they're windows were not open and were not minimized to the panel. I could open *new* windows, and I fire up a terminal and ran top, which showed that they were all running, just not visible. Obviously, this is a Bad Thing.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.3 - No Packman 64 Bit Stuff

Oct 21, 2010

I have these supposed missing 64 bit libs for everything on my main computer. I keep getting the following type messages whilst trying to get things working on a fresh 11.3 install on my test box. All these 64 bit things were installed on it before I wiped it and did a fresh install. I got it when I installed the codecs for gstreamer/kaffeine as well but went ahead and installed. Where did the 64 bit stuff go? I even changed packman mirrors.

OpenSUSE :: Why To Have Useless Gnome Stuff Installed?

Feb 3, 2010

I'm running opensuse 11.2 with KDE. Today I got a software update notification saying that there was some gnome related packages that needed updating. I just pressed update without thinking about it too much. Then I realized that I'm not using any gnome programs so why do I need gnome-packages? Is there a way to tell if those packages are indeed unnecessary or not. And if so, how do I remove them all safely? I don't like having gnome stuff on my computer if I can avoid it.

OpenSUSE Install :: Add Local Stuff To Boot?

Feb 1, 2011

I tried to add a stanza to /etc/rc.d/boot.local but it did not get executed following the next reboot. I then tried to find documentation on the structure of opensuse boot scripts, but failed.

the boot scripts in opensuse are sufficiently different from: fedora, ubuntu, redhat, debian, (pretty much all other linuces) that one needs a tutorial or documentation to learn howto add scripting to local like one adds stuff to rc.local elsewhere.

Is there a way to move root so I don't have to completely reinstall and set up all my packages and stuff again.I assume to do this I need to use the installation disk again and fix it before boot up but should I partition my main drive first. I'm being intentionally cautious as there is data I'd rather not lose on there.

OpenSUSE :: Package Management: Installing 32bit Stuff On 64bit OS

Aug 18, 2011

I'm having trouble understanding the principles behind OpenSuse package and repository management. Here is a concrete example: I want to install the 32bit version of glibc. (using zypper) Naturally I write 'wp glibc' to see what's available. Output:

[Code]....

I'm looking for the (32bit) tokyocabinet library. I go through all the hoops like I did in the first example. Nothing shows up! How is that possible? Does opensuse really not have this library in any repository? Does that mean I have to install from source? How can I be sure that zypper searches through all repositories?

Ubuntu :: Restore Minimized Applications With Launchers?

Jul 17, 2010

i'd like to be able to restore minimized applications by clicking on their launchers like you can do when you have awn or dockey installed. but i'd rather not install awn or dockey since this is the only feature i want from them that the gnome panel doesn't already provide.

i found this thread:

[URL]

which is from 2007. apparently a small application, "launcher-restore", was written to give program launchers the functionality i'm talking about--but that program is gone now--the attached deb file doesn't work at all.

so is there some other program that will do this now, a newer version of launcher-restore, or some even simpler way of setting things up the way i want them?

Ubuntu :: Restoring Minimized Programs From The Memenu?

Jun 8, 2011

Most of the times I open a program (either Evolution or Liferea) from the MeMenu, it appears shifted below. By this I mean that, even if the window is maximized, it does not reach the panel, leaving a strip where one can see behind. But, when one tries to click on anything, it behaves like if the window was in place. So, in order to click on some area, I have to aim some 50px or so above it. Of course this is not very comfortable. Stangely enough, this does no happen if I get the focus of Evolution or Liferea by some other means, such as Alt+Tab or clicking on the sidebar.
