General :: Applications When Minimized Do Not Appear On Panel In F11
Oct 15, 2010
When I try and open a terminal on Fedora and minimize, the window title does not appear on the panel. Any other application like rdesktop as well doesn't appear either.

I am running a week old 11.3 install with KDE (no desktop effects), compiz, nvidia. Last night I was working away. I had Thundertbird, Firefox, and VMWare Workstation open. Maybe something else, but I don't remember.
I was typing away. Maybe I hit something on the keyboard, but maybe not. All apps just disappeared, meaning that they're windows were not open and were not minimized to the panel. I could open *new* windows, and I fire up a terminal and ran top, which showed that they were all running, just not visible. Obviously, this is a Bad Thing.

i'd like to be able to restore minimized applications by clicking on their launchers like you can do when you have awn or dockey installed. but i'd rather not install awn or dockey since this is the only feature i want from them that the gnome panel doesn't already provide.
i found this thread:
[URL]
which is from 2007. apparently a small application, "launcher-restore", was written to give program launchers the functionality i'm talking about--but that program is gone now--the attached deb file doesn't work at all.
so is there some other program that will do this now, a newer version of launcher-restore, or some even simpler way of setting things up the way i want them?

After upgraded to 11.3. Do a operation that active a network node, the Knetworkmananger will active a display on "Task Bar" (see figure 1). And it can't be minimized to "System Tray Panel", just can't be minimized to "Task Bar".
And the network list display pops up without all display some time (see figure 2), it's very boring.
If I kill the Kneworkmananger and restart it again, it will just have a Icon on "System Tray Panel" normally. But if it change to another network node automatically or I change it by clicking the icon, the display on "Task Tar" will appear and can't be resume to "System Tray", just like mentioned above.
I don't know why have this problem, I tried to reinstall the Knetworkmanager, but the problem also exist.

I'd like to start Tomboy (the sticky-note application) at start-up but have it minimized to the Gnome panel. I tried adding tomboy to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications, but then Tomboy opens up in full-screen mode. Then I tried adding tomboy-panel instead, but that doesn't seem to do anything at all. What's the trick I'm missing?

Regarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.
Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.
I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.

I was customizing my desktop and I decided I wanted to try out a dock so I installed docky, cairo dock, and awn via ubuntu tweak. Fortunately for me, docky decided it wanted to boot at startup. When this happened, my applications panel bar appeared right in the middle of the screen.So I uninstalled docky through ubuntu tweak and it seemed to resolve the problem. Unfortunately for me, I kept trying out the other docks. Opening cairo dock brought about the same problem for the applications panel bar. Something that should be noted is that I do not expand my panel bar. This problem doesn't happen if the panel bar is expanded.I've uninstalled AWN and Cairo Dock via ubuntu tweak but the problem remains.

Anyone else encountered this issue? Alacarte opens and seems to be working properly however it will not write any changes to the "applications" panel. if I un-check, edit or remove any listing under Alacarte it is still in the applications panels. I ran it in a terminal window under both home user and root, not errors, and sitll will not save changes or revert.
I don't know if anyone else has experianced this. This may have started after the installation of wine, but not ceartian about that, that is just when I first noticed the issue.

I am running CentOS 5.3, Gnome Panel 2.16.1. It seems some KDE applications just flash crazily in the windows list (task bar in Gnome panel). Usually when a new event happens to a window, it flashes to remind the user (I hate this *feature* anyway, but can't disable it...) But this time, when I switch from another workspace to the workspace that has (more than one) KDE applications (like kile and kdvi), they just simply start to flash, and the flashing window list appears on every workspace unless you click it.
I tried to disable the animation from gconf-editor, without success. Does anyone have similar issues? It is really annoying..

I've tried some more recent builds of Libre Office from Alien Bob and I'm still getting crashes when I try to dock the Navigator panel on the left side of the window for any of the office applications.
Details are in this post. More specifically, I'm running libreoffice-3.2.99.3-i486 from Eric. When I run 'oowriter' (Libreoffice Writer) from the command line, and then try to dock the navigator panel, I get this message after the crash:
Code:
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to
retrieve property `GtkOptionMenu::indicator-size' of type
`GtkRequisition' from rc file value "0" of type `glong'
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to
retrieve property `GtkOptionMenu::indicator-spacing' of type
`GtkBorder' from rc file value "0" of type `glong'
I don't know if it happens with the 64-bit version or not. I haven't tried it yet. I'm no stranger to submitting bug reports, but I haven't looked closely at Libreoffice's bug submitting procedures. I'll do that soon.

How do I restore the original minimizing behavior, where you could see the programs in the panel?
