I want to enable webcam support so I'll be able to talk to people via webcam using linux (using Ubuntu 10.04). I've looked at some guides such as using Emesene messenger to no avail. Also I've tried to use Wine and install Msn Messenger 7.5, however I'm unable to type in my email address and password to login to the messenger client. I searched and read about installing some packages or whatever for wine to allow me to enter in text but to no avail. I've used the stable release of wine as well as the beta release for wine (by adding the deb url inside the software source list). I'm using empathy and there's a webcam icon next to my name under my gmail account, when I click that I can see myself just fine, but nobody can see that I have webcam support. =/ Any tips, hints, guides, direction..? I have an Asus Ul80vt and the webcam is a chicony something if that helps at all.
I've browsed the forums on how to make the Logitech Quickcam Messenger webcam work. The problem I am running into is that the one and only website that seems to have the patch is[URL]...This website seems to be defunct. So does anyone have this patchfile or know where I can find it? Or some other option or work around?
guys can anyone help me out ,i wanna enable video on my Kopete messenger ,by the way i'm running RHEL 5 which packages should i install????show me the steps plz note when any contact send me cam invitation it pops up on my chat window ,i click on it but nothing happens so what's the problem
Is there a webcam support for Kopete in Fedora 11?If I follow the steps here:URL....then the 1st and 2nd steps are fine but at the 3rd step, I don't have any "send webcam" (nor receive) option in the file menu. I did have it in F8.Has this been removed in F11?Tested over the MSN protocol with ports 6891-6892 open (tcp and udp).
All of those items listed above are potential points of failure in this situation, and any help narrowing them down would be fantastic. I am simply trying to enable webcame support directly through Facebooks website.
Forum searches and the usual googling turn up few posts related to this specific equation. Two of the major suggestions include:
1) Installing the Sun (I refuse to say oracle sob)-provided Java implementation instead of the OpenJDK normally installed in Ubuntu. And yes, after installing it, I did update all my default supports to use the sun commands over the openjdk.
2) Somehow enabling Facebook as a permitted site to access my webcam using Flash settings.
I have not been able to explore option 2 because I cannot find a way to adjust the Flash settings in chromium 7.
In skype 2.1 beta for ubuntu 10.04 LTS desktop amd64, the webcam is not getting configured at all. The test button in <options> for video shows no results or response. The same problem was faced in Karmic Koala also and now in Lucid Lynx. Kindly provide some concrete solutions to this very problem of configuring webcam in skype for ubuntu.
I failed to get webcam support on CURRENT with Skype version 2.1.0.81, Skype did not see the device at all (using libv4l).Downgraded Skype to version 2.0.0.72 and webcam works well.
I've looked all over the net (believe me, EVERYWHERE), and I can't find anything. I sort of need a program that supports webcam so I can communicate with my family when I leave town in a few weeks. I've tried aMSN, emsense, Pidgin (webcam hasn't worked in that program for ages, heh), empathy (just audio works), skype, ekiga, and so on.
My sister was gifted a logitech quickcam chat . The gspca_zc3xx driver is installed and running (tested with mplayer, vlc, google talk + various flash video sites) and it is running 100% ok.
it seems however that skype is STILL not interfacing directly with V4l resulting in some nasty feedback( or just no video feed) so I tried the old work around LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype (worked with my old logitech webcam on an older release) but it STILL isn't working. here is the output
Code: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skypeERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. (<unknown>:3545): Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libequinox.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
I have disabled password logins to a server.I want to transfer some files to it using a client like FileZilla but there was no way I could give private key to filezilla is there an ftp client which supports key based login?
Is there any way get a VoIP-client with ZRTP-support for SIP, without having to add extra third party repos, ect.? Is there anything in the the Debian repo's that actually support this protocol at all?
None of the two clients I've tried so far (Linphone and SFLphone) work out of the box on Debian. Linphone doesn't work with ZRTP on Debian (bug #743474), it work an all other systems, but not for Debian. SFLphone is no longer supported, as it has gone to the project Ring, which cannot be installed without adding additional repos.
I had tried to build up my linux box as Domain Controller and DNS for serving clients of windows xp. But it didn't succeded. Its always giving error of DNS SRV record. I already created SRV records and the service is also started. Please Send me the complete configuration of LDAP CUM DNS on rhel5.

I have a problem making work a webcam. At the begining, after the instalation of 10.04 in a new laptop, the webcam did not work but with a lsusb I see that the webcam was Webcam 5986:0241 acer. I was not able to config neither use the webcam with any application. After lots of test and forums reading I could not do my webcam to work, and now when I do a lsusb my webcam does not appear.

I just completely put Ubuntu on my laptop and I am looking for a replacement MSN messenger that allows multi-session. Basically, in most of the WLM versions of MSN Messenger it allows Multi-session, as in I can login into the same MSN account on both my desktop (Windows) and my laptop (Ubuntu). Both Pidgin and Empathy don't, and rather going through all of them I thought I'd ask here.
Once I open my messenger window and its time for me to log in I have my yahoo account ready to go so I key in my password and it never lets me log in. This suddenly started happening. However if I was to log in with an AOL account I can still log in. What can I do to solve this? I am assuming that somehow the system locked or disable my yahoo account from logging in.
I am using Fedora10.I have installed g2ipmsg using "g2ipmsg-0.9.6.tar.gz".The installation was successful. But when I execute it I cannot see any other user in the users list inside g2ipmsg , other than myself (It uses the 'lo' and not 'eth0').Messaging with myself is successful.ipmsg.exe works well in Windows , I don't have to make any settings there. Here in Linux I made the settings as:settings->preferences->External representation of IPMSG character code to 'GBK'.
also when I run the application following things are printed: root@nameserver# g2ipmsg Error : [fileubcrypt.c line:1307 ] Can not store key: length: 0
